Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 You may have noticed the repetitive phrase "Zumu Zumu". It is interesting, because it reminds me of another phrase with tonal similarity "Muzu Muzu". When you feel itchy or tickling or a kind of slight frustration, we express it using this phrase "Muzu Muzu". This song may have succeeded in making you get frustrated a little bit. 😄 Metalizm was premiered in the two-day shows on April 1/2 and I witnessed the both at the venue in Yokohama😍. This MV is from Day-2 when Momoko appeared as the 3rd official member, Momometal, for the first time. Western (American) Kami Band did a great job in those shows. In an interview, Su referred to this song with Arabic flavor as "a new drawer of BABYMETAL" [source : magazine PMC vol. 27, page 41]. I viewed this choreo on stage by Su, Moa and Momometal was mixture of seriousness, playfulness, comicalness, therefore amazingness on top of Su's fantastic vocals and intricate guitar phrases and hefty drumming by West Kamis. The new drawer is a tribute to New BABYMETAL.

METALIZM ZUMU🤷 ZUMU🤷 Thanks for always reacting about the dance😍 SU-METAL's arms are bent in the opposite direction when straightened, not straight. This is called 猿腕(saru ude = monkey arms) in Japan. Did you say anything related to this? Sorry if I am wrong. I am not good at English🙈 I believe MOMOMETAL is a dancer type dancer. She is the type that dances to the count and dances the choreography tightly. MOAMETAL has stated in the past that she dances to SU-METAL's songs, and I think she is thinking about how she can show SU-METAL's songs in the most attractive way. Since she is a self-proclaimed idol-otaku, I think she is also thinking about where she can cut out a beautiful pose. I think she is an entertainer type. The song is called "MAYA" and has a short, but very interesting dance solo by SU-METAL. Currently, there is no music video or anything, but there are some videos on the fan cam. From Japan🦊

I think this is a good Maya fancam: Babymetal 07.05.2023 @ Wiener Stadthalle (MAYA) it still is a fancam though, it wasn't intended to keep the ladies in the middle all of the time, sadly.

Maya is great because it gives Su-Metal a chance to show her dance skills, on the front for a change.🤩 Sabaton's stage construction blocks view of their footwork when seen from the front, but there is one fancam of the Helsinki gig recorded from the side and above.

"METALIZMIZUMIZUMU" - great song - Middle Eastern/Egyptian/Arabian (or similar) trance metal at its best.🤘🦊🤘 Obviously I know nothing about dance, choreography and so on, so I'm not sure what you were wanting or expecting to see - it looked good and like it fitted to me. But BABYMETAL's choreo is always pleasing to my ignorant old metalhead's eye whereas that is very rarely the case with other dance acts where it mainly just annoys me (add grumpy to ignorant😉). In my mind that is because BABYMETAL perform the song and their movements/dance add value, they don't just move to the beats ... but as I said, I freely admit my ignorance on dance.

Past weekend in Vienna I remember that, after they did the introducing part of Babymetal Death, Su positioned herself in the middle and looked at the crowd for the first time and she did a surprised expression for a second. Just where she looked, first row in front of her, there was Alan from Dicodec xD I forgot to tell him but I remember that happened, I think she recognized him. I mean, I'm sure they are looking at KZfaq sometimes and can recognize some people.

Is the choreography constrained by the fact that they must be able to execute it on so many different sized stages? The first time I heard this song the image of whirling Dervishes came to mind and I can imagine (at a very basic level :) how this could be incorporated into a really cool choreography with Moa and Momoka spinning across the stage, but this could be hazardous should the stage not be large/uncluttered enough. Thanks for another excellent review. LLAP.

It’s a possibility although choreographers place importance on the routine, and find a way to manipulate the stage to fit the routine, rather then the other way round.

@@xiaouiris I really appreciate the response. I watched the Papaya music video not long after watching your reaction and in that the girls are on a small, raised platform which would be impractical for what I was imagining. I suppose it would be easy enough for them to match the set list to the venue.

@@lookingatsunsets636 So what I've noticed about Babymetal is that they modify their dance according to the venue size, which is what I think Xiaouiris was getting at. Take a song like IDZ. When the venue is large, you'll have MOMO/Yui and Moa run across the stage at the beginning of the song, same with Gimmie Chocolate after the second verse. But when the Venue is small they forgo the running and do something else instead. So in your instance with the twirling dervish's they could have done something different, perhaps similar, but different to accommodate the smaller venue. That being said, I can totally see your point about them doing the twirling dervish considering the sound of this song. Personally, this song is probably my least favorite of the album, which is funny because I absolutely love Shanti, Shanti, Shanti. I just feel in this song Su doesn't really do much in the way of singing and it's more of an almost chant. I DO love her death glare in this song where even Xiaouriris was taken aback lol I'd love to know why she had that look! I also wonder what is going through her mind when she does those looks! lol

I've seen Metalism so many times. Finally, after your first pause, I just figured that that's a "M", like a seagull. The M is symbolising METAL. Then, they flapped their arms like the wings. Knight with wings is mentioned in the lyrics. Perhaps, they turns the M upside down became a "W"is symbolising a "winning" or a "crown". It was just my wild guess, because in the lyrics, the King of Metal, horse riding, thousand of nights were also mentioned.

I love everything about this song and the visuals. I love how their costumes turn gold in the lights of the golden surroundings. I get what you are saying about being disappointed in the choreography at times. I was too at first viewing. I was also thinking they had areas they could have gone 1000mph and stepped up some crazy dance moves but as others have said.... they dance to the meaning of the song not just tempos or beats. They also allow the Kami Band to shine more when needed. Even in Su's older solos, when it was time for a guitar solo, her movements really really slowed down. I also think these moments give the girls some extra time to catch a breath. They are still in crazy shape and on the younger side, but they aren't 15 anymore. 😉 So after watching over and over. I love it all. I understand it all. Or feel so. Plus this song is just one of my absolute favorites. I wish it was longer. AND I really love how Moa is feeling those last blast beats @9:54. You can see her mouth go POW! haha. Too cute. 🤘🦊🤘

Man, I hate that sht Sabaton put up to block audience's view. The choreo from fancam somehow feel much faster than their pro-shot (not just Maya, but other songs that I saw from fancam too), they look crazy fast and precise in Maya tho

Mikiko despite her years of working with Babymetal, I have always felt that she has a very pop air in her choreographies and she cannot always incorporate the metal element very well in her songs, personally she wastes a lot of drums which is something characteristic of the genre. There are moments that she takes advantage of, like in the breakdown of Catch me if you can and it looks great, but it's rare, normally the choreography follows the voice and not the instrumental, which I don't like so much. Despite that, there is a song that I consider to have the best choreography and that Mikiko felt more within her zone, that is BRAND NEW DAY where we see a lighter style that Mikiko has always been given. I would love for you to see it and give your opinion, since I am not a professional dancer or choreographer. and of the old songs I recommend Uki Uki ★ Midnight', which has a choreography full of energy. I love Uki Uki ★ Midnight' because we can see Yuimetal, who in my opinion is the best dancer Babymetal has ever had, counting the avengers.

MIKIKOさんの最初の大ヒット作品がPerfume の「Polyrhythm」でした。私は最初METALIZMがPerfumeへのオマージュかと思いましたが全然違う曲調でした。ところでSUMETALは「Gimme Chocolate!!」の曲をはじめてもらった時「なんじゃこりゃ」と思ったそうです。彼女は久しぶりに「METALIZM」を「なんじゃこりゃ」と思ったかもしれません。

I think I do not know enough about choreo to know if it is good or bad, but the song sounds awesome to me. I've kept listening people saying the song has arabic influence, but to me it sounds a lot like Goa Trance. What do you think about that?

Great info as always myself i love the courography to this . This been studio over live and special effects as well a lot of courography might of being missed . One KZfaq reactor who knows a lot more of the instrumentation part said the studio did not match the parts being used of drumkit by drummer . So the real live could sound different (which we know they sound heavier live ) Could that change the courography. Anyway BabyMetal always breaks the rules to what is expected and do things their way 😉😁 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

During the time you are disappointed about Babymetal's dancing, that moment is for the guitarist to shine. I think their dancing in general is always going to be about supporting the song and not necessarily about taking over the song at any point. It's Momoko not Momoka. MomoKO 😀

Great reaction! Very informative as always. This is actually one of my favourite choreos of the new songs, because of the Arabic influence, the Egyptian poses like at 8:12 and the tutting. I don't mind the slowed down choreo during the trap beat choruses that much. To me personally it is more fitting to slow down there than during the psy trance triplets in the verses. True to Babymetal they project so much power. I am not the expert here though and I appreciate your opinion, Thank you!

Thanks for analys of the choreo, i think problem with wastes come from the fact that music is`t actually what they are dancing to. In live setting they don't use loud backing track with all this strong beats and only guitars and drums, so maybe this is a reason

Thanks for this reaction, I understand your frustration. Su-metal limbs can do things most humans can't, she can stretch further than most people. When choreographer Mikiko went to New York City to learn Hip Hop dance she felt it didn't suit her body well, so then further developed her own style of dance. So in a way I'm not surprised she doesn't always use those techniques. Please react to the fan cam: Babymetal 07.05.2023 @ Wiener Stadthalle (MAYA) Maya is the name of the song, maybe the song which got the most dancing of Su-metal. Sadly the Sabaton stage blocks a lot.

METALIZM is one of the best songs on the album. everything is right, the rhythm, the drums, the bass and the guitar riffs and of course Su's voice. the oriental sounds make the song perfect, almost arabic or even a touch of mongolian. I just love monochrome even more

I think so far, the most brutal choreography is the one for MAYA, unfortunately it can be seen only in fancams, but one of those has a full frontal view, high quality, despite Sabaton's props 😅. 🤘🦊⚡️

I see some people talking about stage/venues but if maybe Metalizm took the simple route because of fan interaction? You consider that a possibility? I know it may sound silly considering how much the girls can do but I feel like they still make some parts of the choreo easier just for pure fan interaction at least to me it seems they never forgot about this idea.

I think the choreography was constrained in the "chorus" cz the main focus was the guitar solo, since this is a style they never done before and it doesn't have much metal elements in it, constricting the choreography in the guitar solo might be to balance out the pop/metal ratio they always have in their songs

Nice reaction. But I think you forgot a basic fundamental of Babymetal. Once you started expecting something. You should have realized that's not going to happen because that's not what Babymetal does. All ways remember "Don't Think, Feel". When they first started out. Mikiko would tell them to use whatever facial expression Moa was making. Moa just has a natural feel for it. I think it may be a while before Momoko can hold off smiling for very long. Not smiling when you're the new member of Babymetal and you actually said years before that you wanted to be a member of Babymetal. That has got to be the hardest thing to do. Momoko is trying though to her credit. Given the chance Su has proven she can do anything. Even control her limbs. lol. No one said it would be easy. Babymetal will do what's not expected. Like a song called Metalizm and barely have metal in it. That's what Babymetal does. For them. This is the way.

I agree with the chorus part. The first time I heard this song, I was so excited to both the guitar solo and the choreography, but it was not entirely what I have imagined, lol. But, I think the choreographer wants to make it feel like egyptian style dancing, which is nice. Also, I thought at first they're doing the snake dance or something related to that style😅. But lately, the dance steps have been growing on me😊. Awesome reaction as always🥰. Also, I saw that you reacted to Riho, hope you'll react to a Babymetal song with Riho as the avenger, I really enjoy her dancing especially at BxMxC, and maybe you'll comment some of her techniques 😊.

I think it is important to remember that the music you hear in these videos is not what they were actually dancing to. The live music is obviously very similar but it is stripped down and emphasizes the guitars and drums more. Also the sync of the studio audio is not always perfect to the video.

8:28 Yeah!! I understand you, I am also disappointed. I was liking the choreography a lot and when the chorus came I expected more. They did the easiest thing just when the intensity of the choreography was ramping up the most, which felt like a bucket of cold water. I like Metalizm and I like the choreography, but not taking advantage of the chorus to do something better disappointed me.

I'm have no concept or experience with dance/choreography...but just from a metalhead's POV; this display from the 3 ladies(who are all extremely talented) feels disconnected from the music. My attention was more focused on the back ground visuals most of the time, even when the camera was focused on them....such a shame. Great band, great performers...awesome song though. 🤘🦊🤘

Have you ever seen any videos from Morning Musume. They are one of the top Girl Groups in Japan since 1997. Members have changed over the years. They both sing and dance. Look up "One - Two - Three" dance version.

It's one of my favorite songs but the choreography isn't. I even wish they had more guitar and drum shots. I love BabyMetal's choreography. So the expectations for this choreography are also high. Unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations. But it doesn't matter because there's another song or next album I can look forward to. The BabyMetal album for me is not ten songs but ten songs and ten choreography. Thanks for your great reaction.

I'm with you and, oddly, not really a fan of the track either. Seems parodic (bit too much of a mash of Arabic and Persian imagery & tropes for me... the music is trying a bit too hard to be exotic/generic "middle eastern" inflected, the background that evokes Persian textiles and the awkward "Aladdin" moves). Maybe I'm being too sensitive or whatever. A bit disappointed after the super highs of Monochrome. Excited for more to come! Not really into this one though. Sorry fox fam.
