In my 25 + years of machining I was always told and instructed to wear protective gear (eye and hearing protection). Seen guys loose fingers, guys getting hit with flying broken end mills, grinding stones break and ruin guys eyes. Protect yourself at all times. Or you'll pay. Then the owner pays. But I love your knives Mr. Reeve

People who hate on expensive knives, or the Sebenza in general, are either trolls, hypocrites, or people who simply do not appreciate a good investment. The very person that bitches about spending $400 on a knife will turn around and spend $400 on some electronic device that will last them about 2.5 years while the average sebenza owner will have and use their knife for a majority of their lives. Chris Reeve knives that were made when the company first started 25 years ago, are still being used today, traded, and collected. What do you think the average car, electronic device, clothing item, computer, or TV would last? Probably about 1/10th of the lifespan of a high quality knife like the Chris Reeve Sebenza. It's an investment and a damn good one. If your someone who doesn't use knives, you don't need a $400 sebenza so they are obviously not being marketed to you. But despite this, these people continue to bitch about the product revealing their stupidity and illogical thinking. People who watch videos solely to bitch about what they are watching are of the lowest caliber.

I know this is 2 years old but 100 percent agreed! I have several and some of them have actually increased in value just because they are no longer made. My kids will receive these when I die. I hate how people just rag on the fact that so much is machined and not made by hand. These ignorant people obviously don't realize that these are production knives. They aren't custom or mid tech. But they are built to such a high quality at such a consistent rate that they are very justified in their price range. If you're an average consumer that sees a knife as just a piece of steel that cuts then you're very narrow minded. Go out compare a cheap truck to an svt raptor. Both production vehicles not custom but how long is your cheap truck really going to last? Not very long without repair or even replacement. With Chris Reeve you get a knife you only have to buy once. They stand by their product 100% percent with a lifetime warranty. How is that not worth $410? It really seems like chump change when you take into consideration the quality and longevity that come with what you're purchasing. Think twice, cut once.
@schlooonginator1227
@schlooonginator1227 9 жыл бұрын
Agreed. A machine can do things at far higher precision and with consistency that humans are not capable of. I would like to see the hand builder who can get his pieces as flat and even as that machine.
@ricksalazar2458
@ricksalazar2458 9 жыл бұрын
schlooonginator A CRK straddles the line between a custom and production knife, lots of hand fitting goes into a CRK, add that to high quality materials, and extremely precise (.00001) quality control and it's easy to understand the price.
@schlooonginator1227
@schlooonginator1227 9 жыл бұрын
Rick Salazar Agreed. Many people feel knives that have the most hand made components are best but I think CRK uses the best hybrid to make the best folding knives. Perhaps a fixed blade is best with absolute hand made style but folders require precision for obvious reasons. Machines can be superior to humans in that field and they are consistent. I think it would be awesome if CRK designed and made a Strider killer using bigger and tougher materials while still having the precision build.That would be awesome. I am really glad I watched this because before his knives never really did much for me but now I understand what you get for the money On the other hand, I have a ZT 560 and the use of bearings is a major advance in pivot design as you have an incredibly smooth action without the need for spending large sums perfecting a bushing system. This knife truly blew me away. The fit is perfect to my eyes, perfect. The 3D machining is gorgeous. The materials all feel premium and they even machined out what they could to save weight while using a great steel for the blade which has a nice finish with perfect symmetrical lines.

Yes, (sameness) Chris's knives "often" look so flat or featureless to me. Some of that is I suppose the color and the same design of a flat, pocket clip folder(s) same blade locks etc of the handles. Once you open them (I have never had the chance to "play" with one). Then quite often the blades are beautiful, with wood or other decoration "scales" they are more beautiful. They must feel great so want to see and buy one but it’s a "pig in a poke" (no offense). I would love the chance to buy the right one.

Micro management is what brings a company from good to great. Companies need micro management in order to produce products that are as close to perfect as possible. You can't overlook anything when you own a company that produces high quality products because every product that goes to the customers has to be as good as the last. Chris Reeve produces what is considered the best production folding knife on earth. You have to demand perfection when you have a title like that.

Truly such an impressive story from Mr. Reeves' part. One of the most passionately determined men I have ever had the pleasure of hearing, and while some may say that knives and worldly possessions in general are superficial and not important in life, I believe that what matters in life is excellence. To be excellent and to devote yourself to something takes you to new heights of happiness and success. Thank you Mr. Reeve, for leaving a lasting legacy on the knife industry as a whole. I'm sure Tim will follow in your footsteps!

After watching this video I have a greater respect for Chris Reeves quality. It's difficult to see all the the effort put in to his knifes. Perhaps I'll consider getting one someday. The only thing I that would put one in my pocket today would be a flipper style and ergonomics similar to a Shirogorov Custom Division Hati. Add a steel on steel lock up, nice dark titanium finish, polished high lights and I would buy one now.

What makes you say that? I didn't witness him micro-managing anyone. Everyone seems to be doing their own thing, and he seemed respectful of all the guys in the shop. Everyone gets to look how they want to etc. Also what sort of person do you want in charge? A wishy-washy hipster who is OK with whatever you think is perfect as long as you are happy? No, of course not, you want someone WITH A STRONG IDEA OF PERFECTION. The CRK company would not exist without that trait in this man's personality.
