Cheers Andy. Always get the jitters before I start weathering £150 worth of loco and looking back at some of my earlier efforts they weren't great. Every time I do it I get a bit better and been happy with this batch. Planning on doing a video on it at some point as I've a few others waiting in the queue. You're right though - too much grime doesn't look right. Lesson this time was to look at photos of real locos, pick a loco in a weathered state I liked, then replicate that. Previously I've just sprayed grimy colours at the underframes / roof and hoped for the best. Hope everything good over at Sharleston. All the best, Colin.

Now that is a challenge. Every time I weather my own locos I need to take a deep breath before I start - the fear of ruining locos that are now getting crazily priced. BR blue is pretty forgiving, but any rolling stock with strong colours I've only done light weathering with. Not sure if I'd have the bottle to risk wrecking someone else's pride and joy. I also use an airbrush for everything, which can just about give the resolution required for OO, not sure how that would translate to the smaller scale.
