Christopher J. Smith ‘Discovering My Secret Self’ Interview by Iain McNay
Author of ‘The Secret Self - A Practical Guide to Spiritual Awakening and Inner Freedom.’ From an early age Chris had a sense that society didn't feel right and felt strange how people believed and identified with things which were not real. As a child he had subtle experiences of 'no identity.' He left school and joined the army where he learnt the true meaning of conditioning, he felt it was like a prison within a prison. A Corporal said to him. ‘we want to break you down and rebuild you as we want you.’
After leaving he started to have paranormal experiences and then his first real breakthrough occurred when he was 21 after being hospitalised with food poisoning. It looked like he wasn’t going to recover so he completely let go of the struggle and allowing death to happen and then a great sense of peace, calm and clarity came which allowed his mind began to rest for the first time.
Life was up and down for a time until he found the following online: ’As you look at a tree, see the tree and not the thoughts about the tree. When you look at it observe the shape, colour and presence of it without thinking about the shape, colour and presence of it. Just look quietly and then you will see the reality of this thing called the 'tree', as you will see the reality of any object'.
Contemplating on this shifted him into an experience of complete oneness with the tree and everything else; any filter dropped away. There was no longer a watching or watched, just one in the same.
‘I could not say what was me and what was not me. It was like floating in an ocean.’

30:40 It's important to note that these perception shifts likely won't happen unless healing trauma. A LOT of people are drawn to spiritual teachings to escape suffering. But the way out is in. While healing trauma, and coming home to the body, there are various symptoms very similar to what he describes. The sense of vision opens up, it becomes more panoramic. The colours become more vibrant. It feels like a veil lifts from the eyes. This comes and goes but becomes more and more steady as the body comes out of a state of vigilance. I'm pretty sure there is just one path and coming home to the body is very important. My hunch as I am still healing trauma, is that once you feel "good enough", you can keep going or not. If you keep going it becomes more subtle but it's really the same work. Seeing again and again the mind dissociates from immediate experience. Only instead of very deep, heavy, sensations of tension in the body along with heavy emotions... you have more subtle movements of mind... a general sense of dissatisfaction. When it is noticed also, the sense of vision can feel like it's clearing up so there is really a kind of bio feedback. As for the sense of constriction in the field of vision I remember having that when I was very anxious. It's likely to be linked to the sympathetic shift in nervous system. The body is literally in a state of vigilance, as if looking for a predator. In this state, the field of awareness is reduced in order to focus on immediate danger. What happens is this state of vigilance becomes more or less a way of life today... The mind continually shifts the body in a state of fear. Just that it can become subtle to a point where it's just our way of being..always dissatisfied, always wanting something else.

Hey man I chose to reply to you because your name says bishop. I consented to lucifer to see if God is real at 16, when I was 21/22 I got microchipped and lucifer possesed me I ended up beating him trippin LSD 25 I met the all seeing eye And Lucifer got the boot jesus is real and this guy is sketchy, he didn't describe the blank slate, the church can bring you back to the state you were at, at 12 years old but god can bring you back to the state of an infant. I've been exercised without the church, jesus showed up from the spiritual realm slinging holy water on me jesus is real and this guy is sketchy but god and jesus are real. # I've been possesed by zorak lucifer and azazel I've seen cthulu and medusa goatmen pig men and all kinds of wacky stuff christianity is real but this guy is suspect I heard from someone he might be the antichrist

@@justinbrown4699 well, apparently I’m holding Lucifer in my body, I know nothing about him, but I am sure that is who the vibration is under my body. The whole universe has confirmed this, NO SERIOUSLY, so I don’t know how you could have met him. I am trying to let the vibration go, as I think he has changed or maybe what I truly think, is we have been lied to about who he is. But I do not know, I think this is what is holding me back on letting him go.

Wow the thing he said about the tree. I realized I would always do this without knowing. I would be looking at something, either the forest or even the mirror and i felt like I had this ability to let go of my personal vision and I would see some mind blowing psychedelic stuff and it was always a game of how deep can I go.

Beautiful, and funny as I discovered this interview by looking up a black man by the same name that got enslaved by a restaurant owner in S.C. , US, which was in the news today. "enslaved" on a very different level, but I feel most of us are still enslaved by our mind. I am.

I feel these stories are actually a hinderance to my true consciousness. All i want now is the bliss and joy of awareness like its a ticket to a theme park. Its just a strong desire, thats trumping my previous desires for a good career or better physical appearance or the things i (still want) but want less than that.

Who am I to question anyone but my personal feeling is that this guy is in his head. We all have stuff to go through of course I get that. But in this case it seems more psychological than anything else. But I could be completely wrong and am totally missing it.

We should question. THis is the path for anyone seeking this freedom. Question everything. Judging is another thing. It's actually mind boggling, and really exciting for me sometimes.. to contemplate how do I know about someone else's understanding. How? It's very exciting because it's actually pointing to freedom. That we will never know for sure. That whatever is looked for is always in "me". And that "out there" all you 've got is the appearance, the blah blah coming out of the mouth. Then the stories, the fancy clothes if they wear any. There is no levitation, or miracles happening. They just sit and talk to crowds. Or claim to know "how to decalcify your pineal gland" in this case... Are they genuine? Are they authentic? Who knows. And even if you could, what is "genuine", what is "true" enlightenment, and so on. Everything falls appart. All knowledge falls apart. That is the wonderful ; even if unintended ; teaching that these new age artists have to share :) I would say the trap not to fall into is hate. Or to even believe one's own judgment. But judgment or questioning in and of itself, I think is valuable. Because it keeps poking at your own beliefs and your own perceptions.

faB I hope it did not come across that I was making judgement and definitely not hate. I am just another seeker; I can only ever go on what resonates with me personally. I believe most people use the mind or their feelings. Even if you are watching your thoughts or feelings you are using your mind in some context. To be totally honest I have not a clue nor do I pretend too. But I have enjoyed the journey well mostly anyway.

FaB Open shop? No there is no desire here and no notion that 'I' have anything to teach or facility to teach. My path was similar to Chris' path in that I also had an early life that was antisocial then at age 47 in 1991 had an unexpected energetic experience that totally changed my direction in life. To answer your first question it was then that I first experienced going out through my third eye and there was a lot of that. I am not familiar with the notion of decalcification of the pineal gland but perhaps that was what was taking place at that time. To answer your second question yes between 4 and 10 years ago I was transmuting sexual energy. Finally, today I just sit here most of the time in an open spacious state that is empty of self, there is no sense of separation and it is a constant blissful state. It seems to be deepening as Chris said and is getting quieter and more blissful. I share your concerns about knowing what other people have going on inside which is why I use 'seems' and 'sounds like'. That is why I like to use Jeffery Martin's classifications as he has interviewed over 1000 people and categorized their transcendent experiences (you can fit mine into what he calls location 4) here is a link to his paper if you like. nonsymbolic.org/PNSE-Summary-2013.pdf

Martyn, :) in your comment above, there are 13 instances of the primary wrong view, as outlined by Buddha shakyimuni in relation to 1st stage of awakening (the recognition of the 1st 3 fetters,) the main one being 'self-identity view' - its not a journey, it is a process of removing distortions of mind and wrong views, and it begins with self identity views. try this vid, ''the most shocking spiritual truth you will ever hear'' @ actualized.org on yt.

Interesting video, but I think the foundation for his enlightenment lies in the energy cultivation through the martial arts he practised when he was growing up. Just a book on meditation won't do it. Nice guy who picks his words carefully..
