Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris (born March 10, 1940 in Ryan, Oklahoma) is an American martial artist and actor. After serving in the United States Air Force, he began his rise to fame as a martial artist. In 1974, at the age of 34, Norris had been the Professional Middleweight Karate champion for six consecutive years (1968-1974). Chuck Norris appeared in a number of action films and was The Cannon Group's leading star in the 1980s. He next played the starring role in the television series "Walker, Texas Ranger" from 1993 to 2001. Chuck Norris also created the martial art Chun Kuk Do (CKD - masternorris.com/chun-kuk-do), which is based primarily on Tang Soo Do and includes elements from every combat style he knows.

I recently read Chuck Norris's autobiography and I gotta say he had a rough childhood. His father was abusive, gone all the time, and a drunk. If you ever get a chance to read Chuck's book I highly recommend it because it proves that even from nothing, you can become something.

When i was a kid around 3 or 4 years old, my uncle and aunt said i looked like Chuck Norris because of my hair color. I never knew who he was until I saw Sidekicks. And that's what made me want to get into martial arts.

He is just a ordinary man, with ordinary talents, and ordinary acting skills. Ordinary hair cut. But original, old but gold. At peace, but aggressive. Cool but steaming hot. Water with temperature. He is the good guy that don’t people please. He just do what’s right. For a kid born in 90s, long haired hippie looking blond man, was the coolest thing.

I met Chuck & James Belushi, At a Cigar Show that they were appearing in Manhattan, Back in the 80's Two great guys to talk to & they signed my Photo of them also , Which I Now have up in my Den, A Collector's item for me for sure Happy 78th Chuck Today & many many more etc.

I'm trying to pinpoint when did Chuck start to lose his hair and wear a wig (Like the one he is wearing here) Because even into his 50s he had a beautiful head of hair. It just seems like he got the wig on as soon as possible before his hair loss started to even show.

Walker T.R is still my favorite show even after 19 years!! It's action packed, funny at times, it's family based, & deals with real life issues.no prime time show today can touch it.also liked the spin off Sons of Thunder.

I think that Texas Ranger and many of his films are chauvinistic BS but I have great respect for his perserverence, will and talent and generous heart and he has contributed to children. I think he epitomizes the power of focus and dedication.

my sister used to tease me and tell me i was adopted and my real family lived in a station wagon in Olahoma and they had to sell me because they were poor. Ive been in American kempo for about 8 months now and i would say that if that were true...that i was really his kid...i would probably be lucky but still be myself but probably better...but im pretty good!

+netoortega He studied Tang Soo Do-Moo Duk Kwan (black belt) and judo (brown belt) while in the military. He trained under the late Jae Chul Shin who was a Tang Soo Do stylist and earned his black belt under him. Later on he would train with several other Tang Soo Do instructors; Jae Joon Kim, Chun Sik Kim, and Ki Whag Kim. Not sure why he keeps saying Tae Kwon Do. Though he did receive an 8th Dan (presumably from the Kukkiwon) in the 1990's, he never actually trained in Tae Kwon Do. My instructor got his black belt from Norris in the 1970's and they never called what they were doing Tae Kwon Do. It was always called Tang Soo Do even though technically it was no longer the same art he had learned in Korea. In the mid 1960's he began cross training in shotokan karate, shito-ryu karate, and kenpo karate to improve his punching skills. He eventually did earn his black belt in judo under Gene LeBell. If you look at old photos of him in his uniform it says "Tang Soo Do" on the back. All his old black belts that are not affiliated with his organization still refer to the art that they teach/taught as "Tang Soo Do".

You said you don't know why he calls it TAEKWONDO?.. Allow me to clairify that for you. Korea has been invaded by foreign countries for centuries. During WW2 Japan forbade the practice of Korean Martial Arts. Japan was trying to break Korean National pride / spirit. After WW2 , and after the Korean war in particular the South Korean Goverment under the direction of a South Korean Army General name Choi Hong Hi they wanted to reinsert Korean pride so Gen. Choi began with the Martial Arts because he himself was a high ranking Black Belt and attempted to "Unify" the different Kwan's ( Association's ). Korean Martial Art's at that time was called TANGSOODO meaning The Way of the Chinese Hand. That wasn't going to gather much Korean Pride by recognizing the Chinese for Korean's who studied the Martial Art's. So General Choi decided on the name TAEKWONDO because that means The Way of the Foot and Hand, or The Way of Kicking and Punching. and because it resembled the name of a very old Korean Martial Art called TAEKYON. .. So it really doesn't matter if you call Korean Martial Art's TANGSOODO or TAEKWONDO, Whichever way you wish to call it really just represent's what political party or timeframe you choose to recognise the Art as. TAEKWONDO and TANGSOODO are the same thing! I hope this history lesson helps clairify the subject for you or anyone else wondering or interested in that subject. Sincerely, Sawbumnim David Lee
