The practice sentence was: "Hello my name is Thomas and I'm typing on a Drunkdeer A75 keyboard right now. Sure, it's basically the Euro Shopper of contactless keyboards. But I drank Euro Shopper for years!"

Your initial unboxing inspired me to look into this keyboard, and I can echo most of what you said. The software does work for me, and being able to set per key actuation is VERY nice.

A lot of the marketing around mechanical keyboards atm have been around feel since, until the wooting introduced hall effect switches, smoothness being the most common that I found. There's little to no mechanical difference between a cherry and there clones but the feel of blues and silent forest are night and day
@lughnasadh696
@lughnasadh696 10 ай бұрын
This keyboard got me pretty curious as it was a pretty affordable hall effect keyboard and I managed to get one at maybe two third of its original price. I'm not necessarily big on customising keyboards but watching your videos I've gotten increasingly sensitive to the typing experience and comparing smoothness between switches. To my surprise, when pressing individually random keys, I could easily distinguish degrees of smoothness depending on how much lubed (presumably, as I didn't take any switch apart) or not was on switches, and hilariously enough, I've found one switch in particular that had a noticeable scratchy feeling, almost reminiscent of a cherry mx red. This is a very wild guess but despite being a contactless switch, I'd suspect the walled stem is what could be causing a bit of friction (or more if I take that one scratchy switch as a reference). That is something you don't have at all on the omnipoint switches, but those switches, along with other very smooth switches like the opx ones from corsair happen to be more prone to binding, and maybe this has to do with the housing having more empty room? Although the drunkdeer board I have is pretty much brand new, binding is much less significant, while on the other switches I mentioned, even new some can already have quite a bit of binding. Anyway, great video as always, thanks for that (and for baiting me into frantically seeking the smoothest switches out there).

My one gripe with these 75% keyboards is that there never seems to be a dedicated PrtScrn button on them. PrtScrn and Delete are precious keys to me. 😅 Overall, it looks like a perfect entry to Contactless boards, yeah the marketing does sound dumb, but switches are just that itch the people need. Side note: please tell fucking Corsair to release an update to revise the K100 Optoelectic version to be analogue capable. And error on the Razer, the screengrab said 270 Euros when you said it's 270 Dollars. If SteelSeries were to send you their ApexPro Mini with the Omnipoint V2 switches, would you review it? 🤔
@Chyrosran22
@Chyrosran22 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I actually went as far as to bind PrtScrn to a key on my macropad because all these small keyboards lack this key and it's driving me nuts xD . I'm not sure they'll make the K100 analog though, this is a lot more difficult with optoelectric switches than it is with Hall effects. I'd definitely review the new Apex Pro though, yeah :D .

There is a print screen button on the Keychron k2's and the K2 pro's. Even Nuphy has print screen buttons. These GMMK versions with the volume wheel though, doesn't have it. I guess there should be a feature where the volume wheel can be pressed to simulate a makeshift printscreen button.

I dunno if the switches feel the same but the keyboard itself doesn't have all the onboard processing that allows for features like rapid trigger (dynamic actuation point) like a wooting has. Still, it's a very compelling option if you want a keyboard that's going to probably last a lifetime.

So you're telling me that witj your link you can have this keyboard for 94$? This makes it 2 to 3 times less expensive than the other magnetic keyboards you reviewed. This makes me think what enables them to price the keyboard like this. Did they have to cut corners? Is having the magnet on the side bad? Or is it just that the other manufacturers are greedy and overprice stuff.

Chyrosran22. 1 question: Why do you hate mx switches when you only have used 3-4 variants? And why do you think us custom keyboard enjoyers fill foam in keyboards? . We don't like using foam or lube anymore. Switches in the mx game (specifically tangerines, and now gateron cj's) come factory polished (clean, no lubricant) and are just as smooth as contactless switches(no im not even joking) and get scratchier with lubricant(for some reason). Ive also heard more boards (the metal bricks with weights) dont really need foam anymore. We call boards with foam "muted"/"dead" now. Also if we do use lube we only use a tiny amount to not really change the sound of the switch to be "dead" and use minimal foam just to cut out any wierd noises. Besides that, we dont need foam anymore. Its sad to see what you think of the custom keyboard scene. I mean sure, we used to put foam in our boards, but we took your advice and now barley use any. Here is what a more modern/recent board sounds like. Its still a bit muted but its much more livley than those dead sounding "thock" boards kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5lii9OHtp2rk6c.html
@Chyrosran22
@Chyrosran22 Жыл бұрын
I have over 350 different models of keyboard. What makes you think I've only ever used 3-4 variants of MX? Or really that I hate MX, for that matter? As for the rest, cool to hear, but basically every high-end keyboard is still aimed at exactly what you say people don't want.
@gearsgamer7115
@gearsgamer7115 11 ай бұрын
@@Chyrosran22 sorry if I was rude ;-; I was annoyed at something else ;/. Thank you for replying. Also. It matters on what type of foam. Sometimes foam actually can make a board more lively or muted depending on how thick it is. It also depends on the case/chassis materials. I do agree roomy cases = thock but also foam can make a board much less dead
@gearsgamer7115
@gearsgamer7115 11 ай бұрын
@@Chyrosran22the science says the thinner the foam the more muted, and super thin foam just isn't really what high end kits use anymore. They have started thickening up the foam. This is the case with the qk60 vs qk65 (both budget aluminium bricks). The qk65 had a "foam" sound signature, which qwerty keys almost entirely removed on the qk60 variant which succeeded it, instead opting for a more "full" sound that doesn't sound as "muted", although a bit higher pitched. This is due to more modern budget-but-high end kits opting out for thicker foams, meaning foams usually don't change the sound profile all to much, and when they do it dosent over-mute the switches. And finally, the lube us keyboard users use is not for the "sound benefit" more of the smoother feel, and most switches are smooth enough now we don't even need lubrication(some come factory polished, so lube makes them scratchy). Just order like 1 or 2 cjs, see how good they are stock.

I was all on on this board and genuinely had the payment window up in another tab as I was watching this. Then came the typing test and that sound... what a staggeringly cheap, plastic, awful sound. I do not want to be listening to that all day as I type. I love hall effect switches, my Wooting is amazing to type on (just full size so way too big for my needs so sits in the box in the cupboard) in favour of a regular linear 65% board or my Ergodox.

You might find a basic KVM device an easier and more reliable solution then. I come from wireless hater camp, and one of the reasons is that wireless is never reliable enough, especially when you have to share your devices between different OSes.

@@alexandergonchiy1298 Well that simply isn't true. Wireless 2.4Ghz low latency is a tad faster than wired. But the receiver needs to be very close. As for reliability, I have been on a Nuphy air 75 for 2 years now. It has been very reliable when connected wirelessly.

I bought one of these, in white. For me the software works, but Microsoft Defender did bitch about it. The software does its job reasonably well, as long as you plug the keyboard directly into the motherboard (no hubs). The interfaces is a bit weird, but most of what you could want is there. I wish the wheel was remappable, though for my use-case it doesn't matter. IMO it feels very very cheap...too cheap. The keycaps look and feel nasty (you can actually see burn marks from the lazoring on the white ones). The case is clearly as cheap as they could make it while remaining structurally sound, and it doesn't weigh anything. It's held together with clips rather than screws, which loses points. I bought it specifically for gaming; I recently switched to Box Jade for my main keyboard....excellent for typing, terrible for Hunt Showdown. A 75% was thus fine for me, and the drawbacks aren't really an issue. I find the switches a bit heavy, holding down W starts to wear out my fingers after a while. I might swap out the springs at some point. They do feel very nice though. EDIT: I swapped the springs from gateron red into WAD and shift, then set the actuation distance for those pretty near the bottom. I found this to be a lot nicer, my middle finger no longer gets tired from exended sessions of running forward. The two point actuation is interesting. I tried mapping lean in GRAW to the first actuation of the A and D keys, with the second actuation mapped to the usual strafe. This worked remarkably well. I think whether this feature is useful heavily depends on what game you are playing. I agree about the backlight, it's excellent. I presume this is because of the light pipes. This causes a problem, because it means I'm going to have to find a good set of shine-through keycaps :p. I do wish that it remembered the setting you left it on...the keyboard resets to "backlight enabled" on every boot, though it does at least remember what setting I put it on. When I bought mine they weren't offering shine-through PBT keycaps as an add-on, which they are now doing. At only $10 I would have bought a set if they had been available.
