Fun fact: When Mulder was stuck trying to solve a problem, he would watch Plan 9 from Outer Space. He called it the Ed Wood method of problem solving. As of the year 2000, he told Scully he had seen the movie 42 times, which is also Mulder's apartment number and the answer to Life, The Universe and Everything ...

I respect Ed Wood. All he wanted was to create stories onto the big screen regardless of what people think or say. He lived a dream. Even if he was a complete idiot. But he's the idiot I respect.

Johnny Depp does a great job playing Wood in that biopic and capturing Wood's fascination with movies and glamour and the whole Hollywood dream machine. It's Wood's honest enthusiasm that makes his failures so charming and lovable even today.

8 years and 4 months of entertainment from some guy who happens to like movies. I can see why going for another 100 is too much to promise. So her is the thing. Space atmospherics is a real. Space weather is a real field. It normally deals with electromagnetic radiation and how it effects radio communications. For example Solar Flares from the sun can indeed screw with radio communications. It just depends on how strong the flare is. It can also screw with GPS. As for the square ship, that's not a continuity error at all. If you look at the scenes where the ship is taking off from the graveyard you can see a square bottom jutting out from the main portion of the ship, it just disappears when the thing is actually flying normally.

Part of the charm of this film is that if you play it on your DVD player it's like it's always 3AM. Thanks for pointing out the stain. I didn't see that. There was a "sequel" to Plan 9 in comic book form believe or not which was like 20 years later, explained the whole plans 1 through 9 deal and continued on with Jeff and Paula Trent and their beautiful daughter who is a tough "go get 'em" reporter.

To be fair “outer Space” is not an empty vacuum and (though highly rarified) contains molecules of hydrogen, helium and other gases. As such it could be deemed an atmosphere of sorts, so the line “Atmospheric conditions in Outer Space ...” may be scientifically acceptable.
@charlesvan134 жыл бұрын
Even the vacuum contains particles which jump into existence in matter/antimatter pairs and self-annihilate.

"Atmospherics conditions in outer space often interfere with communications..." This actually is almost somewhat accurate. Solar weather, including sunspots and solar flares can drastically effect the propagation of radio signals around the Earth. What is going on in the sun's "atmosphere" can effect radios. So that line does almost make sense to people familiar with the effects of solar weather. It's still a really clunky way to say that propagation tanked. That being said, I would highly doubt that the script writer understood the connection between solar weather and radio propagation on earth. Someone who did understand it could have worded it much better than what we got. Occum's Razor still points to incompetence by the script writer. Even a fool can guess right once in a while.
