Being alone in a Cinema. Sounds like the beginning of a horror movie XD

I only now noticed: The story is about a young girl, becoming apprentice to a wizard who's most famous for granting wishes but is really bit of a fraud and a tyrant...? Sounds to me like they're still very much into "Wicked" over at Disney's...

Early concepts for WISH looked more interesting than what we eventually got... Speaking from personal experience, the last time I was alone in a movie theater was for 2010's The Wolfman

That happened when a friend of mine and myself went to see Predators. We were like literally the only 2 people in the room of the theater the whole time. I remember when my friend had to use the restroom, she came back and shouted, "Jen, where are you?" And I shouted back, "Over here!" Since we were the only ones in there, not like we would be disturbing anybody. 😉😂🤣

I think the issue with the music was that they got two pop song writers to write the music instead of people with musical theatre backgrounds.

Honestly, everybody and their grandmother has been complaining for years now that stories have been taking the backseat in movies in favor of various other considerations, sometimes nostalgia bait, sometimes political messaging. Thanks Wish for making you realize this truth about modern movies. No matter the message and/or themes you want to discuss in a movie, you can not dismiss story-telling, or you'll get a sub-par movie. I've been sick of this trend for years now and since I've decided to not take shit from any movie, I feel a lot better and I watch good movies, even though fewer than I'd like. That and I can't stand Chris Pine, but he may be more bearable as a voice actor, only problem I couldn't care less.

I'm just glad you at least acknowledge what works in the film and recognize the time and effort that went into it. While I do understand most of the complaints this film gets, one of the few that legit gets to me is when people say it feels like it was made by an AI, especially since it's been proven that AI writing tools are incapable of writing humor.

Your experience reminded me of Nathan Rabin being the only person in the theater for some of the films he went to see for his My Year of Flops blog. At one point he was the only one in the theater for the film (Postal I believe), got up to go to the bathroom, and the guy in the projectionist's booth yelled "Do you want me to pause it for you?"

I was the only person in the theatre for a showing of Ruby Gilman Teenage Kraken this summer. It def felt weird. The movie is cute and fun and deserves better

I personally avoid theaters cuz people don't shut their damn cell phone off !!! There are a couple theaters here in Austin that prohibit cell phone use as soon as the lights are turned off. A little pricey but worth it.

Yeah this movie doesn't look that special to me. There's a short on Disney+ called Once Upon a Studio, I thought that was a good way to celebrate Disney's 100th anniversary.

I've been alone at the movies a couple times, once with Bros and the other Killers of the Flower Moon.

There's a tumblr post that goes into great detail about everything that Wish got wrong about the classic Disney formula that Wish was trying to do. Either way the best thing about this movie was it brought more attention to the short Once Upon a Studio. I hope the studio has learned it's lesson and fires the idiot in charge because since he came back Disney hasn't had as many hits since he changed up how things were done.

there used to be something that made you think "I want to watch that!", I can't tell what it is, but it's not there anymore. Not just Disney, it's like 9 out of 10 movies from the last few years don't have that "thing". You watch the trailer and feel "meh, I don't care" instead of "wow!! I need to see that!!". Remember when things like Jurassic Park or The Matrix came out?. Or more recently, the first Avengers movie. Movies don't have that "I need to see that!!" factor anymore.

I don’t think I’ve been alone in a movie theater for the film. The closest I’ve ever come to it was for a matinee of S1m0ne in its initial run, a movie that wasn’t all that bad apart from a few of the attempts at humor.

I don't get why this movie is getting hated. I loved it. The animation, the songs, the references and even the story really impressed me. It was the perfect representation of Disney magic.

You got everything right! A generic story with a generic villain with a boring protagonist and forgettable songs. UGH!! The only reason this movie was made was to "Spot the Disney IP!!" game inserted in the film.

For a 100 year anniversary, Disney's had a pretty lackluster year. Odd to think a better celebration and self-joking of Disney's legacy happened in Wreck-It Ralph 2.

Wish they stuck with the original concepts for this movie....and yes, i realized the irony in what i just said, but still, they shouldve stuck with the original concepts, because the original concept sounded SO much more interesting.

I feel like the biggest problem with this movie was that it was trying to have its cake and eat it too. They wanted this to be a classic Disney movie but still tried it to follow the same tropes found in Modern Disney films, which aren't bad but don't mesh well with the older ones. Also they should've hired people who know how to write songs for a film instead of pop music for artists. There is a KEY difference between the genres that the filmmakers apparently forgot.

The King is the real protagonist. He gains power by having the citizens *voluntarily* give him their wishes, and they aren't burdened by the weight of unfulfilled dreams that they *did nothing* to earn or make happen. Instead, they expect to have their wish granted simply for the act of asking. Not all wishes deserve to be granted, and the king has to weigh each one to see the ripple effect it may cause. Otherwise, it's just chaos. It doesn't help when the wish is vague and could cause all sorts of monkey paw madness, like the grandfather's wish to inspire the younger generation. Inspire them to do what, exactly? Do good? Rebel? Overthrow the king in his own kingdom? Paint? Who knows? Certainly not the writers of this waste of time and processing power. (Assuming this wasn't AI-generated.) The heart and soul of what made older Disney movies good has died long ago and now it's just a content factory.

We were in a Dolby Cinema at an AMC and there were few people in it. It felt Empty. Wish is just disapointing. Star is best Character tho.

Yeah, this movie did not do a good job at celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary. The Disney+ special Once Upon a Studio did a MUCH better job at celebrating Disney’s 100 years. I honestly feel the movie and special should’ve switched places. The movie go to Disney+ and the special should’ve gotten a bigger theatrical release.

If I ever had a movie theater all to myself, I might try to pull of the Paul Reubens manuever... Maybe... I think you could get away with it if you had a theater all to yourself... What you think, guys? 😛

Jen Lee is NOT making it subtle that this is just her rubbing her success in her ex-husband's face and using him as a punching bag. I don't know WHY Bob Iger thinks keeping her around and having her pettiness ruin "Frozen" further is a good idea unless it's a situation where he's giving her enough rope to hang her with. I had zero interest after seeing the trailers. It was just a sequence of every ultra-cliche disney animation facial expression in the book, with nothing else. It looked as boring and cookie cutter as you can possibly get
