A day in the life of Toronto at the dawn of the 1990s.
Retrontario’s primary mission is the preservation, research and exhibition of rare videotape recordings (1970s to 1990s) recorded off of any and all Ontario (and surrounding area) TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. We also hope to create an ongoing oral history of this content through comments left below the videos. Please add to this evolving history, if you know more information pertaining to the clips, fondly remember them or have a modern thought all comments are welcome! For more information on how to help in our mission please visit us at: www.retrontario.com

Ppl here in Toronto would joke about Harold's weather ' wanna know the weather? Opposite of everything Harold forecasted ' but honestly he was very professional and delivered a thorough forecast. City pulse was excellent news back then. Today not so much. More candy coated ad filled floss 😊

That opening shot of Yonge Street brings back memories. Back then, the street was littered with scummy video arcades and peep shows. I remember telling my parents that I was going to the Eaton Centre and they told me that under no circumstance was I to venture up Yonge--period.

Now like everything else it is turning into Condos that we can’t afford to live in. The only one left standing now is The Brass Rail near Yonge and Bloor

@@rupertperiwinkle4477 Oh for sure! Just Google world population 1990. I mean, the world has seen a massive population explosion over the past 50 years and it's not slowing down enough. Supposed to hit like 11 billion in 30 years. That's too many people! Can't imagine how much crime there will be and the scarcity of resources.

We tend to look at the past through rose coloured glasses, but many cities - especially American cities - were experiencing record high crime rates in the late 80's/early 90's. Gen X was still young at this time, and that generation committed crime at very high rates.

I sometimes remember watching "CityNews Tonight" with my folks when I was younger (like 4, 5) - and not sure why, but the intro music used to scare me so much.
