I'll be playing this as I lay wreaths on the graves of the war dead on Remembrance Sunday

This is so beautiful and it makes me so happy to see my brothers and sisters from India singing it. What a wonderful place heaven will be with all of us there.

Think about this: to be a Christian in India today is dangerous and unpopular. The people who sing this are people who mean it. Most of us just risk becoming unpopular, but some of these people may have been beaten up, falsely accused and arrested, even murdered. "And behind the dim unknown Standeth God within the shadow, Keeping watch above His Own."

I found myself fighting back a tear. What wonderful hymn, what a clear strong presentation, how talented the performers. It has been many years since last I heard this hymn but this performance reminded me why it has haunted me.

The major chord at the end of the song gives me an inexplicable thrill

This is an old favourite of mine, and yours is the best version on KZfaq, because it includes all the verses and really engages with the spirit of James Russell Lowell's poem. My only disappointment is that Lowell's original words "Some great cause, some great decision" have been altered to "Some great cause, God's new Messiah," a common reading but one that is out of tune with the original anti-war intentions of the author. Having said that, this is a wonderful rendering of a great classic that deserves to be sung more often.
