Hi, hope you don't mind me asking but I'm seriously thinking of moving to Cleethorpes, did you really like it, any tips on nice residential areas. I just want a terraced or semi detached house?

@@cherylparker8025 All I know is she said its cheaper rent than down south when she used to live in Reading. She lives in a not too bad area, not far from town and the sea. It's her happy ever after :) your best bet would be to get googling and see what pops up. Most things up north is cheap so you'd get a good deal on whatever you manage to get.

That funfair was on the beach, along with the donkey rides, in the 60s when we went there to visit my gran. She live on Constitutional Avenue near the main entrance to Blundell Park. Used to make 3d and 6d looking after bikes for men going to watch the match on Saturdays.

We used to go to Cleethorpes by train from Scunthorpe in the 1950's and 1960's. Good to see some of the front and beach.If I remember right where the indoor marcket is was Wonderland amusements and the Big Dipper ( A large wooden roller-coaster which had a boating lake under it with motor boats).

We'd travel on the train from thorne. So it would've been the same route. I loved going on the train there with my grandfather.

I had the best time there as a kid in the 80s & 90s. They had the best arcades at cleethorpes. My grandparents ended up buying a caravan there in the mid 80s and we'd be there every chance we got. I remember my nan would give me a fiver every morning and I'd just spend the day in the arcades. Such good times.

That north promenade had a great Sunday market in the 80s n 90s. I'd go with my nan every Sunday that we was in cleethorpes. It was a great market. I got my first pair of Reebok pump in that market.

Good video Tim,the pier was once quite a bit longer (1200ft) but was shortened in the war to prevent its use by the Germans.You should try walking a bit further south in Cleethorpes beyond the leisure centre,there is a lovely walk along the river bank towards Humberstone Fitties,you can see the old forts built during the 1st world war and Spurn point

@@WalkWithMeTim you should also walk up that North end of the beach to see the Grimsby Town Football Club mural on the seawall. My daughter, son-in-law, and grandson moved to Cleethorpes 2 years ago and live up that north end so that’s what I’m most familiar with when I visit in season (it’s less crowded to walk in, I’m medically blind (see the world as a blur of colour, light, and movement). It is also worth walking the other side of your starting point where the light railway, boating lake, etc is, and a path out over the salt flats (somewhere I hope to explore more of at some point). Of course I’ve always preferred walking on semi deserted beaches, and through nature, so I also enjoy walking further inland at Weelsby Woods with my daughter though perhaps the locals would prefer to keep that to themselves 😉

I live in Cleethorpes. I think you painted it in an ok light as I know it's not the biggest of seaside towns! I had to laugh about the maze forgot it was there. I remember going to it when it first opened not that long ago. It needs to grow and for people to stop barging through it! I agree about walking the other way the other side of the Leisure Centre. There are more fish and chip shops further back in the main street area...

I spent my childhood on that beach and loved every minute of it....thanks for not slagging it off.I remember being able to collect tons of different shells on the beach and I'm not sure that's the case anymore. Also the pier was quite different ..I danced in competition there and I'm pretty sure they had pantos there too (possibly aging myself there🤭)

All my childhood and adult life has been in Cleethorpes. Loved the video Tim thank you - so many memories I recall as I watched this however I am still gutted that so many iconic buildings & premises are gone. I miss the Dante Cafe (or what it used to be) and the Wintergardens. Now we dont have the Submarine pub. Most of our theatres we had are gone 😥 Still it was lovely to share those memories.

Lovely to see you were in our town last year. We live 5 minutes from kingsway hotel. Did you know that the waterfall was originally a cafe? When it was closed they used the stones to create the waterfall! Also, there was an aquarium to the right of it with indoor pools. There were 2 i believe, 1 had fresh sea water pumped from just infront of the pier where you started to record and the other was a normal indoor pool. Ive heard that you can still find the pipe on the beach when the sand washes away too much (its a man-made beach which is why if you walk to meet the water it gets muddy). Love our town 😊

Cleethorpe as not change much since I was last there some years ago. With living just across the river in Hull great place to visit, catch the bus across the bridge and catch the train from Barton down the river side to Cleethorpe. When I was a Kid back in 1970s/80s the pier had the Pavilion which now Papas, which would have live music, wrestling and summer variety shows. The only thing that is missed in Cleethorpes is the Winter Gardens, which was on the seafront and would host big pop and rock backs in the 60s/70s and 80's now turned into flats, shame you did not go east and down to the minuter railway and the Parkway cinema. Great video, thanks for showing this resort, can you please come up and video the three best seaside towns in East Yorkshire, which are Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea.

Another great video Tim. Just a few points of interest re: Cleethorpes Pier. Built between 1872 & 1875, it was largely funded by two railway companies of the time. It originally stood 1200 feet long but having undergone many alterations, some as a result of fire and World War Two concerns (German Invasion), the pier is now 335 feet long. The current restaurant building was completed in 1968 and originally housed a 600 seat Concert Hall, during the 1980's it housed a Night Club before the whole pier was closed for refurbishment between 1989 and 1993.

This is a great video, thanks as always for your effort Tim, much appreciated. This brought back happy memories of a long bank holiday weekend me and Ellen spent in Hull (which we really liked by the way) several years ago and on the Sunday we visited Cleethorpes and really enjoyed it. It was an August bank holiday so it was really busy but the place is full of charm and character and we would definitely visit again.

Agree with S WB - if you walk up the leisure centre then just beyond you have the boating lake and a beautiful walk up to the yacht club. The end you walked down to has had little regeneration in years. Cleethorpes is my hometown and it’s a cool place to live.
@orbtastic
@orbtastic Жыл бұрын
If you go left from the leisure centre you end up where he went, that's fine for amusements and chips/donuts (although the best chips are off the seafront). If you go right like you said it's a much better walk and it could be a different town once you walk away from the centre. It's a lovely walk and you can get about six miles before the path ends. The beach up off that walk is way nicer too. It's nice in Winter too.

Lovely place the maze looks the easiest maze in the world. I think Sainsburys is a harder maze especially when they change things around lol.

You went past my house, a few points... Looks like you've gone on a Sunday when everythings closed, there is cheaper parking elsewhere, that was the original Macdonalds, one of the ice cream parlours has just built upwards so its doubled in size, and you're missing the other side of cleethorpes that leads up the the train station pub and the holiday homes plus the boating lake, meridian point, the meridian road walk. Come on Saturday, is really busy....

I remember there was a maze at Longleat but we didn't have time to go round it as we were on a coach trip when we on holiday down that way & had limited time.

Great video. Visited cleethorpes a few years ago and wasn't thay impressed. Nice fish and chips and impressed by the building which sits on the pier. You should visit the maize maze at millets Farm near Abingdon. A maze made out of corn... And easy to get lost in. I use to spend a lot of my childhood at millets. Definitely worth a visit. But only avaliable during the summer /autumn period.

The best maze in the UK (IMO) is the peace maze at Castlewellan forest Park beside the Mourne mountains and the historic seaside town of Newcastle which is right up your street! It is the second largest hedge maze in the world.

Hi Tim, Longleat maze is recorded as the biggest maze in the uk, it was once the biggest in the world. They also have the safari park attached to the estate, nice day out for you Gabby and Casper (while recording a vlog of course 😀)

I had a couple of weekends in Cleethorpes back in the 80s, stayed at a place called the Lifeboat hotel and it was very nice, I believe it is now a car park and has been for some time.
