Taken to pieces and a first look underneath. Will I have a nice suprise or a wave of regret. Follow us as we take a look, then remove nearly everything in preperation for the bodyshop to make it looks shiny and nice :) #clio182 #renaultsport #clio

I agree, should be rather good I think! Its off at the bodyshop now, so lets see how it ends up. The mini is pretty bad for torque steer, and the figures should be similar.

I've had two of these one with 130K and the other with 70K. I still have a low mileage one now. I did an enormous amount of work on both of them. The 130K one felt tired from the get go and compression was down compared to the 70K. 140K is a lot of miles on an F4R and they won't have been easy miles. I'd advise doing a compression test on the motor before you spend any money on it at all. If it's good... and I mean real good, then it's worth carrying on. Remove the engine and replace everything - all belts [aux as well as cambelt], dephaser, tensioner, alternator, clutch, PAS pump, injectors, O2 sensors etc... These are all things that fail. The Miltek exhausts are good but very heavy which is why they've damaged the standard hanger at the rear. You can replace those with Powerflex hangers which won't break, HOWEVER they provide no damping and will transfer all the exhaust vibration into the cabin [pop paracetamol if doing a long journey]. Replace the springs and shocks as well. Standard Renault shocks will be fine but I'd go for Eibach red springs that are slightly lower and give the car a firmer ride. The standard Renault springs are notorious for breaking. So quite a large parts list which means you need to be properly sure you've got something worth spending the money on before you start.

Appreciate the in depth advice. Its a very good point, and something I have overlooked with MB engines (Even their high performance versions) never having compression or wear issues at "higher" mileages. I will do a hot and cold compression test before proceeding. The plans for the engine are, aux belts, cam belts, dephaser, crank pulley, alternator and anything that looks scabby + Front and rear shock absorbers, AC condenser and radiator. Whilst I get what your saying, its not feasible to replace all those items on this car at this stage, I think its best to do the main things. If it needs a clutch, PAS pump etc then we can do this later on. We are

One of the reasons I was suggesting to do everything now is that it's as almost the same amount of effort to do take the engine out of the car to do the belts as it is to do them in sitiu. I did my first set of belts in sitiu [a real pain] and ever since I've pulled the motor out to do them... which then invites you to do everything else (!) Oh, get yourself the proper Renault timing tools. The aftermarket ones are completely crap. Be real careful of the timing... it's very easy to get it just slightly out when you give the bolts a 'final tighten'. The engine will run but is very lump on tickover and doesn't pull well. It'll be fine up the top end though. All mistakes I made :(

@@davyboy888yes indeed. I already plan to pull the engine to do the belts etc as well, as I have new mounts to go on too. May all be a moot point if its down on compression!

Got a FF 182 137K had it for 7 years, no real big problems, Lambda sensor,ABS rings,injectors, couple of coil packs, but it's now due all the belts, so think I'll check the compression before spending big.

This is all great advice, ive daily driven one of these for 10 years or so and just recently upgraded to the RS200. To add, those powerflex exhaust mounts help alot with the miltek (i have the same exhaust on mine) but if you find it creates too much vibration you can just drill out some extra holes which reduces this alot. I kept hold of my 182 because i knew i would miss it so plan give it some tlc now its off the road so will be following the rest of this series to give me some motivation to get it done!
