when I had Orthopedic surgery I could only get pain pills for a few days because of people that are addicted.

Now that prescribing opiates is discouraged, it makes addicts seek out street drugs. Those who are on pain meds usually take more than the recommended dosage. I used to be prescribed Xanax due to anxiety and Vicodin then Norco for arthritis pain, and chose to stop taking both! I still find myself thinking of medicines for anything that seems to ail me! Nasal spay for a stuffy nose! Pepto bismol for a sour tummy. Benedryl for allergies, Dramamine for seasickness, snd the list goes on… There are many who take a lot more pain pills than recommended, and Big Pharma had to reduce the acetaminophen in the tablets from 500 mg. to 325 mg. due to people swallowing more than 2 at a time, ingesting 4, which would end up being 2 grams of acetaminophen (2,000 mg.) which damages the liver!

@@theoneandonlypinkypinky8245 That policy was changed years ago due not only to the potential for creating a drug dependency on the part of the patient, but in hopes of reducing sales or theft of leftover prescription pills.

Carolyn, perhaps you need to seek treatment from a pain specialist. What you are describing is not a new policy, it goes back 30+ years. Open-ended, unquestioned renewal of prescriptions came to be recognized as contributing to drug dependency and addiction, Patients would seek out street drugs when their doctors finally stopped issuing prescriptions. Or because it was easier and in many cases cheaper, at least in the beginning.

@@anng.4542 30 plus years sounds about right… I’m amazed at how well Excedrin extra strength works to reduce my pain levels!
