THE KILLERS in this Episode:
Pyrethrins (natural) and Permethrin (man made)
Search the internet for PERMETHRIN
At the time of this posting, Permethrin and Pyrethrin is legal to use in all 50 states, including the most restrictive, California and NewYork in OPEN FOOD PREPARATION AREAS which means that even if this spray gets ON FOOD it is safe for mammals, sorry for those of you who may think that drinking this would make your skin kill mosquitoes... NO, NO, NO... while it is safe in an overspray... DO NOT DRINK OR EAT THIS.
You can spray it on your skin if it is diluted in water or from the aerosol can. DON'T just wet yourself down with it, test a little area to make sure you're not going to have an allergic reaction... This Is of course PLANT MATERIAL.
And by all means, DO NOT put the concentrate on your skin.
I find that just having it on my clothing is usually good enough without putting it on my skin... actually I don't like the smell of it on me...
I have another video on turning your body into a natural insect repellant that you can watch,,, the link is below (Stop Biting Insects Naturally)
This stuff is readily available on the Internet in the U.S. (I can't speak for the rest of the world).
PERMETHRIN MIXING INSTRUCTIONS FOR AROUND THE HOUSE, TRAVEL & CAMPING
I mix permethrin emulsifiable concentrate in these ratios,
It kills fast and is mostly water, deadly to insects wet or dry, and when it dries it’s still deadly for up to 90 days:
1½ oz (abt 3Tbsp) per gallon (128oz) container
2 tsp per (32oz) quart spray bottle
1 tsp per 10-16oz bottle
½ tsp per 8oz spray bottle
¼ tsp per 4oz spray bottle.
Which leaves the final ratio of permethrin at 0.0103125% dilution rate or .01% permethrin.
Enough to kill invertebrates (insects) quickly but not a high enough concentration to affect mammals.
Permethrin or Permectrin II is a water soluble oil that can be mixed in water or oil bases.

yes, seems to be the only thing that controls dust mites. unlike diatomaceous earth, which is instead great for water filtration in aquariums. hot washing, vacuuming, etc., none work on dust mites like pyrethrin.

I'm reading where Pyrethrin is only affective UNTIL it dries (i.e. while wet), not after it dries..... is this different than permethrin?

Hi! Does this have a scent after it's diluted? I went to your site and clicked the links to the concentrates there then read the reviews. Some discuss a petroleum odor. Is that in the diluted form also or just the concentrate? Also, some comments say that some brands have the scent but others don't. Do you know which ones do?
@CaptainWingnut
@CaptainWingnut 2 жыл бұрын
To us, not really any different than soaking down with mosquito repellant... it has a definite smell too. The pressurized aerosol can is great but has a slight scent that can linger for a while on clothing, but if you use the concentrate and make your own spray bottle, the scent is different and is very faint and goes away quickly. We feel that a faint odor is better than the consequences of not being protected but we hardly ever notice it unless the bugs are REAL BAD and we put it on heavy. Most of the time the odor is gone by the following day with just a little airing out. I personally like to smell it on my clothing when I'm outside because I know it's there and I'm deadly to an insects touch, but again, putting on a repellant vs a killer is a moot point for us. I personally want to wear a killer so they won't come back and try again! Thanks for watching and a great question.

I am wondering where you are getting the information that Pyrethrin and permethrin are safe to be sprayed regularly on clothing and bed linens that get washed and resprayed? I live on a septic system and Have french drains for disposal of my grey water. This would then potentially impact any good insects in my soil. Along with potentially impacting any good insects in my garden and outdoors and soil. As I believe it will bind with soil and its half life is longer. You say it can take 6oz to use on one set of clothes? Or am I not understanding this. I am curious and interested as I have major issues with mozzies and biting small flies in the daylight in warmer weather. Thank you
@CaptainWingnut
@CaptainWingnut 2 жыл бұрын
First, thanks for watching and the question. I hope my answer won’t offend but I covered this in the introduction. You must have MISSED the part at the first where I say,,, USE YOUR COMMON SENSE AND MAKE IT WORK (OR NOT) FOR YOU? First, I doubt in the diluted concentration from your septic system that it would harm ANYTHING beneficial, and secondly, you have to understand how a septic system works!! The work is done in the tank, not the leach lines!! If you have gray lines, you’re still diluting it massively. The jug of permethrin is only 10% pure and you’re diluting 2 tsp (.333oz) of this into 32 oz of water which is 1:960 or 1 part permethrin in 960 parts water. At that ratio its deadly to almost any insect on contact, but then you wash it and further dilute it, probably in the range of 1:1,000,000 or more (just an educated guess) in a low batch washer… that’s 1 part per million… at that ratio, its no longer as deadly as that 1 part in a million has to find and touch an insect that is susceptible and the chances of that are probably off the possibility chart… Again, if you’re paranoid, put your common sense into action and if you don’t understand the math, don’t use it. I used to teach my students that there is a cost for everything on this planet… everything that you want or do has a cost to you or someone or something else. We go through life basically weighing the costs… it’s called logic and common sense. If the cost is to great, we don’t do it. If the cost is acceptable or chance-able we do it and let the chips fall how they may. Only you can make that decision for your circumstances.

Of you are worried that the organisms in the septic system have been killed off. Flush a small packet of yeast like they used to bake bread into the septic system. You should be doing that anyway.

How do you know it is safe? Is it because the FDA said so? I wish you had gone into that a bit.
@CaptainWingnut
@CaptainWingnut 2 жыл бұрын
It’s been used in open food prep for over 40 years that I personally know of and Calif and NY have specifically named it in their regs as nontoxic to mammals, as well as the manufacturers and independent labs have specified it too. The FDA doesn’t test anything, they rely on outside manuf and independent lab data for their judgment.

Captain thanks for sharing I did as I was told so here I am a new subscriber I have a question and I hope you get back to me for the sake of a pigeon that I care for if there is powder permethrin in the market can I use it on the pigeon?? I found spay aerosol can in the garden section in the hardware store but it is classified as insecticide for plants , is it ok if I spray that on the pigeon ?? I want to help it but I don't want to kill it by doing something stupid . it has a very big nasty black looking mite , I see it from time to time moving/surfacing and I know it is sucking the blood of that poor bird can you advise me of what to do please??
@CaptainWingnut
@CaptainWingnut 2 жыл бұрын
Use your best judgement. Here’s some data to help you make a decision. It’s deadly to fish but not to mammals. I use it in my chicken coop all the time and many times chickens are in the coop when the auto sprayer goes off. Never caused them a prob in over 15 years. No, as far as I know there is no powdered form of permethrin.

It kills all SOLO Insects including bees if they’re exposed to it. It is not a colony killer like boric acid so if one bee is exposed it doesn’t make it back to the colony to affect any other bees.

Bumblebees are like honeybees in their preferences with the exception that they usually live in burrows under the ground. Perhaps try the boric acid with a stronger sugar water… 1:1 mimics flower nectar. Permethrin is a one off kill and won’t take out a colony.
