Hud (T.J. Miller) pulls Rob (Michael Stahl-David) from the helicopter, and then finds himself right under the monster.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Producer J.J. Abrams teams with writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves for this frenetic tale of a powerful destructive force that descends upon New York City, and the four desperate people who put their lives on the line to embark on a perilous rescue mission. Rob Hawkins (Michael Stahl-David) is a young American professional who has recently been offered a coveted new job in Japan. Eager to send his older sibling off in style, Rob's younger brother, Jason (Mike Vogel), and his girlfriend, Lily (Jessica Lucas), organize a surprise going-away party to take place the night before Rob boards his Eastern-bound flight. As the party gets underway, Rob's longtime friend and current love interest, Beth (Odette Yustman), shows up with another man as the dejected guest of honor's best-pal Hud (T.J. Miller) encourages partygoer Marlena (Lizzy Caplan) to wish him an on-camera farewell despite the fact that they barely know one another. Moments after Beth storms out following a bitter skirmish with Rob, the entire New York City skyline goes dark. Power is quickly restored, prompting partygoers to turn their attention toward the news, where they learn that a freight tanker has been overturned in New York Harbor. Racing to the rooftop in hopes of getting a better look at the situation, the group is terrified to witness a massive explosion that rains debris across midtown Manhattan, causing mass chaos and unparalleled destruction. But the worst is yet to come, because it soon becomes apparent that this is not the work of a terrorist or an act of war, but a massive creature beyond human comprehension. The monster feeds off of a kind of fictional seabed nectar. This same seabed nectar is used as a main ingredient in a drink called slusho. Hud (the one it eats) was a huge consumer of slusho, and had the scent of the nectar. Thus the monster chases him and why it appears to sniff him before eating him.

Flickerium 1. The ground can bare way more than 5,8k tons...i mean buldings crushing doesn't produse an eathquake eighter...as long as you are big enough and share/divide the pressure/weight of your body on a great surface (clover is big and it walks on 4 legs holding his body slightly parallel to the ground, which makes the surface of presdure bigger and the pressure/suface smaller), the ground can bare it 2. This is just a film...don't take it that serious

Clover's reaction to Hud makes a lot more sense when you remember that Clover is only a baby. He (she?) was acting less out of hunger or malice in this scene and more out of curiosity.

Here's my hot take, 1) The reason Clover was approaching quietly was becuase it was being wary of the helicopter, gotta understand it doesn't comprehend what a machine is for all it knew it could spring back up and attack. 2) The three didn't notice Clover sneaking up because they were in shock from the chopper crash, a chopper crash isn't something you walk off in a few seconds. 3) Rule of Cool is strongly in use

I was 12 years old when I saw this (after obsessing over the promotional campaign for months) and it was my first time experiencing a "found footage" film in theaters. This scene was the most terrifying thing I had ever seen.

That’s the thing in Found Footage Films. A found footage film is a film in which the camera appears to have been a civilian camera that was recording everything. Really gives a first person vibe at times, although it can be nauseating.

Most fantasy movies have huge logic flaws like that. At first it bothered me but now I just got used to ignore them. That's also why it's not my favorite type of movie genre. You should know when going to see those movies that its mostly going to be about flashy stuff and explosions, not about interesting plots.

+TheDinoPug yeah really. it was stupid enough for godzilla in the 1998 movie to go all stealth and sneak up on those helicopters like a ninja, but those three remaining survivors who survived that helicopter crash not noticing that giant thing coming for them out in the open, that was absurd, and it was especially absurd how hud was too late just from taking like literally just two seconds to go back to get the camera.

+steve ‘steveman27’ Kos Simple, shock from helicopter crash and being too occupied with getting Rob out of the wreckage. When you just suffered a big trauma like a car/helicopter/train/whatever crash you will have dulled senses. Ironically, this can often get you killed.

+steve “steveman27” Kos It didn't creep up. If you watch it again, you see/hear the ground shake as it's coming. Remember, it's a 500 foot monster, one step is about a half a mile. If you think the thuds are bombs it will be on top of you before you can react. There are videos of a giraffe chasing a speeding truck on KZfaq. You can see how much ground it covers. There is no way for you to notice something that big quick enough if you're preoccupied. The scene is believable.

1. Gigantic monster sneaks up on 3 people like Solid Snake 2. Monster apparently didn't even SEE the person it snuck up on until he pointed a camera up at it and stared, as its gaze indicates it was possibly watching the 2 others running away, then it just happened to look down and was surprised to see the cameraman just standing there. 3. Monster attacks this one person in particular but doesn't swallow him whole, so apparently wasn't due to hunger. If it's out of curiosity, how did the thousands of other humans it encountered on its rampage not sate that curiosity? 4. Monster _very quietly_ and _very quickly_ walks away after it's done, allowing the other 2 remaining people to run up to the dead man's body. He hits the ground at 1:23 and 1:32 is when I can first hear the other guy shouting his name (he could be audible earlier, but it's hard to tell without headphones on), so apparently in 9-10 seconds the monster has gotten far enough away that the 2 remaining people feel comfortable running up to their dead friend and shouting very loudly. I guess the monster really had somewhere it needed to be at the time. 5. As mentioned in point 2, it seemed like the monster was _watching_ the 2 run away from it. If you were them, and you knew that the monster knew of your presence, would you be comfortable running back so soon even if your friend was just attacked? Very logical scene
