Ji_Ba_Chan it hapens because coke has a high concentration of carbonic acid, wich is formed by the reaction of the co2 and the water, carbonic acid reacts with the iron oxide to form o2 and Co2, so technically what removes rust isn't quite what causes cancer, of course acids ionize youre tissues, but you're stomach is prepared to deal with that for obvious reasons.

Coke dissolves rust because it contains phosphoric acid. If you were to submerge a part in coke and leave it overnight it would be rust free in the morning with out any scrubbing. If you are just going to scrub it then you don't need to use coke, any watery liquid will work

Love your videos! Thanks for posting them; I have learned so much! One question please; I am curious. The Coca Cola and your vigorous scrubbing seemed to work well to remove the rust. Would it work also with the same amount of scrubbing if you used water instead of Coke? Or oil instead of Coke? Just curious. Thanks.

Are you sure it's the cola removing the rust? You can see the aluminum oxide forming in the slurry. Aluminum oxide is harder than Iron oxide but softer than the alloy that the rust is forming from. I use aluminum foil and water to remove rust from and polish up chrome and it works much the same as it does in your video.

good trick but that has more to do with useing the tin foil but what coke dose work for is stiff nuts and bolts been using it for that for years found that out working in boilr rooms when a kid.

P.S. I have heard that when transporting the ingredients for this drink to the factory, there are certain products that ARE NOT TO BE CARRIED ON THE SAME TRUCK or TRANSPORTER and must be in separate loads.
