EXXXTREMELY SPICY COFFEE… or is it? I’m all for a bit of spice in a coffee drink but this is a whole different beast. Would you try it?

A warning from a pepper head perspective, I see two possible mistakes. 1: You touched a product made with the Worlds hottest pepper with your bare hands. Rubbing your eyes or scratching your bits might be troublesome. 2: You put a product made with the Worlds hottest pepper in a nice grinder. The residue from the pepper, might never leave the device entirely. If you try this coffee, think about buying the cheapest hand grinder and tossing it when you are done or use it for dried peppers down the road. P.S. I think this coffee is a train wreak, I'm going to have to try (once). P.S.P.S. I see an iced cinnamon mocha in my future.

@@morgandrinkscoffee Super relevant and probably a bit common. Had an ex use my coffee grinder for spices and I wound up buying a better, exclusively coffee grinder a couple of weeks later, lol. Coffee picks up basically anything that goes into the grinder, so it's a quick lesson to be learned.

Funny enough last week I grinded chillies on the same grinders i use for coffee and even after water rinsing the grinder the coffee got interestingly spicy, I had to make moka with it because chocolate pairs well with chilly
@MsZelda8410 ай бұрын
Well, capsaicin (the molecule responsible for the spicy taste) is a hydrophobic molecule, so water is usually not sufficient to wash them out

I occasionally make coffee (my usual Jamaican Blue Mountain blend) with a teaspoon or so of ground cinnamon scattered on top of the grounds before brewing (around 800 ml of finished coffee). Now that you've pointed out that this is a thing, I might have to try the same thing with some ground cayenne or red pepper flakes -- perhaps even dried habanero. Just to try it. For reference, however, I do take my coffee with half-half and sweetener (saccharin, since my doctor objects if I consume much actual sugar). I do agree with @BansheeBunny -- a thorough hand wash is in order after handling those beans and before any face touching or bathroom visits. I can confirm from experience with mere jalapenos. I'd suggest running something like unseasoned bread crumbs through your grinder to pick up the pepper oils, along with a thorough conventional cleaning, before you grind anything that doesn't want to have a faint pepper burn...
@sarahrosen49859 ай бұрын
Please, please, please stop the saccharine. Please. There are so many Not-Going-To-Kill-You sugar alternatives readily available now. Stevia drops, monkfruit, xylitol and even stevia tastes better than saccharine. No glycemic index. Perfect for diabetes. Safe your body and your taste buds. Please.

The coffee and secondary grinder finely arrived, this is what I came up with. Mexican Hot or Iced coffee: single cup pour over instructions. Let all refrigerated ingredients reach room temperature. Rinse the filter over a large coffee cup and discard the water. Add 70g chocolate syrup to the cup. Add 20g ground coffee and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon to the filter. Pour over 300g water at 100c (this is fine with light-medium roast) as you normally would. Add 35g whole milk and a splash of vanilla extract. Iced: Put the finished beverage in the refrigerator for 30 minutes then add it to a 20oz glass filled with ice. Edit: Like any recipe you can modify it to fit your taste, but I think this is a good starting point.

I really like coffee, and I LOVE chilli. The combination is something I've experimented with lately - spicy food followed by a good coffee. To be honest, both are strong 'hot' flavours, so I find the combination unpleasant. That's why I imagine cooling flavours such as cinnamon or chocolate/cacao are often paired.
