Adding aroma! Boy, it sure is fun. Let me know how you like to play with aroma in alongside your coffee beverages! You’re more than likely to have seen many of these techniques in the world of bartending but many of them can transfer easily over to any beverage, coffee or otherwise.

My relatives in Amalfi (Italy) put lemon peel in their espresso, they say it's good for digestion and headaches. It might be some sort of placebo effect but apparently it works for me haha also the aroma it's just delightful!

As a chemist, the term I would use to describe what happened to the smoke in the glass is condensed. The smoke (mostly) condensed on the glass.

I just got a smoker gun for my bday and I never thought to use it for coffee! I’ve smoked a charcuterie board and also some scotch for my guests but I don’t drink alcohol very often. So I’m super excited to try this on my coffees. Thanks as always for the informative and fun video!

If you like a smokey flavour and drink tea, I can recommend Lapsang Souchong which will be available locally in your area. This tea was Churchill's favourite in which he usually include a hefty dab of scotch to the tea, best to add honey as well. I've just done a copy and paste to introduce you to it: "What Is Lapsang Souchong? Understanding the Basics Lapsang souchong is a special type of oxidized black tea that comes from China. It was originally created in the mountainous Wuyi region of China, located in the Fujian province. History suggests this tea was first created when civilians in the Wuyi area were fleeing from Qing dynasty soldiers. They quickly dried fresh picked tea leaves over fires and then buried the tea in sacks to ensure it did not spoil until they were able to return. The name “lapsang souchong” comes from the traditional Fuzhou dialect. In this dialect, “souchong” means “small sort,” referring to the smaller black tea leaves that are plucked for use in lapsang souchong tea. “La” refers to pine, and the word “sang” means wood. Put these terms together and lapsang souchong means “small sort pine wood” - referring to the pine smoking method used to create this special type of tea." This copy and paste is from: www.revolutiontea.com/blogs/news/the-beginners-guide-to-lapsang-souchong

The 'Cocktail Time with Kevin Kos' and 'Truffels on the Rocks' channels have both done videos on essential oil based drink perfumes. Kevin uses just Vodka or light Rum and a few drops of oil, which works to give an initial aroma and coats the rim of the glass similar to an absinthe rinse. 'Truffels' makes one with a lot more oil that forms a thin layer on top and gives more of a mouth feel, using either MCT oil or a chemical solvent and ~95% alcohol (to form an emulsion).

What is that adorable lighter? That little guy looks so swag. :D This reminds me of the time a local coffee roaster advertised one of their bean varieties as having a rose note. I was skeptical until I ordered a pourover of it and took a sip of it black on the way home and I FELT that smell-taste of rose in my sinuses. Sorcery. Thanks for giving me more flavor adventure ideas!

Hello Morgan, I have a question, can you use a whiskey smoker to add smoke to a cup? I happened to found what a whiskey smoker was so i thought it would be interesting to use for coffee, but I found nothing on using that for coffee, so I was wondering if it's too impractical or affects too much the flavor or something else?

I’m not a big fan of the smoked glass technique. There is a reason we don’t smoke proteins over freshly lit wood. I find the smell to be quite acrid and unpleasant. I tried a smoked old fashioned made with that technique and was not impressed. Though many customers loved it. I let the bar owner know my thoughts. The next time I went in he placed his new smoked old fashioned in front of me. It was delicious. He had briefly smoked the bourbon itself. I think smoking coffee beans themselves might make a great difference. I’ve been tempted to try.

Very interesting, I’d be curious to try them side by side! I’ve never particularly had any issues with glass-over-smoke but to each their own of course. I do think this is the easiest way to get started at least, requiring the least tools too

@@morgandrinkscoffee I would like that too. Old fashioned s are usually smoked with wood chips. It may make a difference using fresh herbs. I’ve never had a beverage like that. I will definitely try.

I have a weird genetic quirk that limits the spectrum of bitter elements I’m able to taste. It doesn’t dampen my perception of bitterness, just makes my tongue blind to certain bitter components. Because of this I absolutely cannot handle lighter coffees, because the citrus and green apple notes are exacerbated in a really funky and unpleasant way. That said, I’m hopelessly in love with extremely dark roasts but that comes with a loss of depth of flavor and frequently my beans come burnt. So I guess my question is: how do I optimize my coffee around my weird dumb mutant palate?

Wow, people really complained about the clock face on display in the background?! Honestly, people these days have literally no capacity for tolerance or understanding. Personally I think it’s a cool clock face and reflects your style and character. If I were you I’d stick it to the keyboard warriors and put it back on display. It was hardly a distraction, and to be honest I didn’t really notice it because I was focused on what matters most - you and what you were saying and demonstrating. You can’t please everybody so I say please yourself and you won’t go far wrong.
