This could be the only week we can make our hay this year. The weather is looking ominous and we have no idea if can finish in time.

Ha! Making hay whilst suffering hayfever - precious! Love the outtakes. I've just been working with a mini round bale in it;s second season and we had several breakdowns and stripdowns. Balers are the work of the devil!!!

Haha, yes, I must be mad!! Glad you like the outtakes at the end - I thought that some folks may like it when things go wrong. I know what you mean about balers. Ours has worked ok this year but it has taken about 8 years to work out its idiosyncrasies.

I find citrizine hydrochloride tablets, sodium cromolgate eye drops, and fluticasone propionate nasal spray nails it. Took me a while to come up with that combo!

Air conditioning: when I used to make hay, the MF-65, didn't have a cab. Air conditioning was in the hands of God. Mind you, that was over 50 years ago. 🇬🇧👍

I had an open air kubota for the last few years which was fine but having a cab has been transformational. No going back now😁😊

There’s nothing wrong with the machinery that you have and buying new doesn’t mean it will be free from break downs. Both new or old will require servicing and maintenance, which is best done well before you intend to use it,also before you put it back into storage. Has the bubble burst on UK vineyards? In the last few years new vineyards in UK have increased, has this had any detrimental effects on existing ones? I ask as a long established award wining vineyard near to me seems to struggling to stay in business.

Yeah, I tend to agree with you about old machines. They will work fine so long as they are properly greased and don't have any electronics on them. So long as we keep the rust at bay, they should give us good service for years to come. No idea if the bubble has burst on vineyards - time will tell. I suspect that like most maturing businesses, it will come down to good product and good marketing with a good story behind the brand.

if i remember, i use a local honey on my toast, but that may mean i have flower pollen allergy, rather than hay pollen allergy. having sad that, i haven't really had much hay fever this year (south cumbria)

That's interesting. The rain that we've had recently has definitely helped. I think after the middle of July it should get much better.
