I'd be really careful posting these videos because it is against federal law what you are doing which is defacing and or destroying currency. And the fbi and treasury departments crack down hard on that. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that you end up getting a visit from the feds

Skyler this is the most straight forward explanation of the process for coin rings that I have seen on the net, I use the same steps however I've never teflon wrap as much as you,I guess I've been lucky.

Made my first clad quarter ring today. Just as described. Biggest lesson learned was you can't be timid with the ring stretcher. Trust that you've annealed correctly and go at it. :) Thanks, Skyler!

Thank you for this video. It's been about 4 years since I've made any coin rings and I've just been reunited with my high school sweetheart. It's been 50 years since we were together, I just spent a week down in Kentucky where she lives, and we still feel the same as we did when we were teenagers. I showed her some of the rings I've made, and she was impressed, so I want to make her a ring for Christmas. Thanks again for your video.

You take it back to the ring stretcher after Swedish wrapping in order to make it the proper size like in my 3 examples that I gave.

It was a very long time ago so, I could be wrong. But I always thought I remembered kids, in machine shop making those things using just a central former and a planishing hammer? I don’t recall any dies and presses. I guess the result was a lot more primitive.

You can pickle it in order to clean it if it’s silver or gold. Pepe tools sells bench basics smart pickle. That’s what I use.

So this is unrlated to coin ring making, but you seem to know your stuff. So here it goes, I'm going to try to resize my rng at home, i have a hard steel ring mandrel and a sizer, but should I anneal it first? It is tungsten with a rose gold core. Thanks, and nice videos

Awesome vid! We metal detect and have found hundreds of dollars of coins. I would love to supplement our hobby with ring making. 2 questions: 1) is there a starter kit you recommend? I have a 20-ton press and lots of tools. 2) do you think this process could work for shotgun backs (we call them headstamps). We find them everywhere in the woods. Thanks again!

Really like your video. I had a old dime. It looked blackish. I started rubbing aluminum foil onto dimes surface. Turned out to be a 1944 dime. Why did the aluminum foil clean up the black dime to shiny.?

Would just letting the coin cool on its own and not quenching it help to avoid the possibility of cracks forming when starting the folding and sizing process ? Or Working the coin while its still warm be of any benefit or just stick to quench after annealing ?

I'm surprised you have all these press and forming tools.I suppose it's much quicker.We used to make these when I was an apprentice toolmaker.The coin was drilled on a lathe and then repeatedly hammered while rotating and annealed regularly.Same result but took a much longer time.

Hey skyler! Love your videos. Do you have any statistics on what sizes you can make from various coins without having to Swedish wrap? For instance quarters and halves? Minimum and maximum? Thanks!
