The Leafs aren’t frauds. They were never poised to be a contender this season. This season is a punt. Next season is also a punt. Bottom line Dubas gutted this team for assets cause he built a massively flawed roster and tried for years to use draft picks at the deadline to fill in the holes. Treliving inherited a mess with zero assets or cap space to fix it. Next season is also a punt. Basically Treliving goal is to hold on to the few good assets they have and wait to get Tavares off the books and next summer he’ll have some flexibility to make a few changes.

Colorado has no depth scoring, their defense is small, and the goaltending is one of the worst in the league. What are you talking about? Panthers, Jets, Dallas, Vancouver are all more talented and have better everything. Colorado is good, but they go as far as Mackinnon and Rant can carry them.

Leafs are far better then pessimistic fans will give them credit for, dare I say trending into the underrated territory. 16-3-1 in their last 20 yet the league is down on them because of how they've played 2 games. However, it's very unfortunate we have to play Boston, Tampa or Florida every year because it basically puts the Leaf's in the position where they need to be a top 3 team in the league to actually contend. The team could easily go on a run here though. JT needs to find some gas left in the tank and our top players need to catch fire for a few weeks and anything is possible. That's why we're neck and neck standings wise with some of these true contenders that these guys mentioned.

After this week's performance against the Bruins, Leaf's management know they are out in the first round. They were not giving assets away for a repeat playoff performance. In retrospect, I wish they had not resigned Willie and used him as trade bait like the Flames did. His earlier stellar performance has slipped since being re-signed.

The Leafs are the underdogs this season in round 1 and 2 if they make it that far. Which is vastly different from previous seasons. It'll be interesting to see how they play when they're the underdogs

Colorado has Drouin so on any given night he could put up a minus 2 or 3. I think Dallas could beat the Avs or Winnipeg. In the East Florida and Carolina for me are just better then everyone else.

I'm a leaf fan since '68 when I came to Toronto. That's 65 years. They've had exciting teams, exciting players, but never seemed to been able to put together a complete team. Even the team that won the last Stanley Cup won it by luck as they were not better than their opponent... the leafs know they got away with one there. Dubas ruined us. Treveling is not doing much either. What does he think these mickey mouse trades are going to actually do? At least make one decent trade for a top defenceman. We also need at least one better offensive player for our bottome 6 players. Not to mention a solid goaltender. If Samsonov goes down we are shot. Woll is just coming back from injury and I don't know if he can get back to form in time where he used to be spectacular. Toronto still lacks G-R-I-T.

I like how Morgan Riley ruined that player who did the slapshot into the open net. McCabe stood up to Marchand - sent the message. Domi, Bertuzzi will be tenacious and GREAVES will do what GREAVES does best. Would have been good to get Maroon though.

After a decade, the TML have had a singular - and over rated - playoff win against an exhausted, injury-depleted team. The Leafs are saddled with 4 borderline ridiculous - considering their respective AAVs and no move clauses - contracts (thanks, Kyle). Leaf Nation has watched repeated debacles long enough. As currently composed, the TML are not a Stanley Cup winning team. It is realistic to consider they will not make it past the first round of the upcoming playoffs, a tournament they are in fact: yet to clinch a spot for. Considering most of the rest of their games are against teams currently in a playoff spot, and that they play FLA twice, it is possible the unthinkable could happen. I don’t dare say it. The biggest need of the TML is not getting bigger D, making a blockbuster trade, goaltending , more snot or even firing the coach. The TML need to change the ultimate decision maker, the top dog, the head chef, the Grand Pobah. It is time for Shanahan to move on.

How do you choose Tampa over the obvious Panthers? Panthers are the frontrunners at the moment. Carolina and Boston have a good chance as well. Especially Boston with the tandem of Ullmark and Swayman. The Rangers also have a great chance! From the west I think either the Oilers or The Jets could at least make the Stanley Cup Finals if not win it all if Bettman allows it(i'm joking of course, well kind of lol)...

They are frauds, they pay 5 players 2/3rds of your cap (leaving a third for your other 18 players, depth) meaning if you are not one of the top 5, you can only afford entry leverl/bottom 2 contracts, and yet everyone falls for it thinking they are the best ever despite having the worst playoff records of almost any team in any sport. (Who loses 13 game 7's in a row?)

Toronto doesn't have anything to trade so how could they make any deals. Their "minor leaguers" are not NHL ready and the ones from the Marlies that they have brought up just are not that good.

Everyone is WHINNING again about my Leafs!! I have been a faithful fan since I was 9 yrs old ( 1967). The detractors are either died-in-the-wool HABS, SENS OR BRUINS FANS or they've just lost faith in the team. There were times I was pissed off at their efforts or LACK THEREOF! Unlike most posters here I watched the greatest Leafs players of ALL time play: Bower, Sawchuck, Horton, Kelly, Sittler, Gilmour Sundin and so many more. Despite their lack of success over the years ( FYI: if Gretsky had been penalized on the Gilmour incident in 1993 Toronto would have GONE to the finals RIGHTFULLY SO!) The current version of the team has proven they are tough to play against. My biggest pet peeve is how they blow leads so much and need overtime. There is NEVER a "slam-dunk" easy trip through the play-offs even for an upper echelon team like Boston or Vancouver because their opponents in each round want the SAME THING---- LORD STANELY'S CUP!! Underdog teams have ALSO found success too ( St.Louis Blues 2019!!). The Leafs BELIEVE in each other AND will ALWAYS have each others backs. It's NOT about the name on the jersey---- it's about ALL OF THE PLAYERS on a roster working TOGETHER for a common goal! A CHAMPIONSHIP!!

The year before Dubas took over the Leafs looked pretty damn good. They had young budding stars. They had secondary players, they had a bit of toughness, they had lots of draft pics. Everyone knew the Leafs needed a number 1 D at this point and there was lots of cap available. Nope, Dubas goes out and gets rid of an affordable Leaf loving second line center for peanuts and brings in a guy at twice the price to replace him. Dubas set the standard for what the budding stars would consider their worth and Dubas gave them everything they wanted. Here we are...it's a continual extension year after year of this. No lessons were ever learned by the young guys and now they are a bunch of premadonnas who put up points in the regular season and work on their Golf games every year after their early exits. Dubas left and Treliving came in to a sh*tshow. Nothing in the cupboards and draft capital spent several years ahead. Think that is bad? Well, it certainly seems with the massive new contracts for Matthews/Nylander that nothing will change. Leafs seem to have married themselves to the same core for years to come. Cap wise handcuffing themselves with massive cap hits for some scoring and nothing else. NO balance, No Defense, No secondary scoring, No team toughness, No quality goaltending. Just no no no ... It's not fair to the fans who buy tickets and merch when a group of vastly overpaid multi millionaires don't leave their left lung on the ice every single game . What a pity... Shanahan needs to go pronto.

I have said for 5 years that the Leafs lack grit and character. Why Nylander is still a Leafs is beyond me. He has offensive skills and he's signed for 8 years. He will perhaps never be worth more than he is now. They need to shake up. The core it isn't working. My concern is that Treliving is a Calgary retread who never made it past the second round.

Toronto would be a fraud if anyone besides Reilly and Biznasty (and I do love Bis) thinks they aren't going to be first round krill. If they win two games against Boston or Florida in the first round I would consider that over-achieving. I would easily settle for knocking Marchand or Tkachuk or Cousins out of the playoffs with a serious injury. One of my favourite Leafs moments in recent history is Ty Domi punching Ulf Samuelsson into another solar system. They do have both a Domi and a Bertuzzi on the team. Don't get me wrong. I love finesse hockey, but that's not the world Bettman wants. He knows vendettas and cheap shots get Americans to watch. Canadians will watch the playoffs even if all their teams are gone by the second round. That doesn't apply to Florida or Vegas or even much of New York or Boston. I despise Bettman for it, but the owners want revenue to grow and a Leafs-Oilers final while it would present beautiful hockey would be a ratings disaster.
