I've had 7 of these bowies... given 3 to each of my son's...one to my nephew... another to a friend...still have 2. Paid $90 to $120 off ebay. Love this blade!!

The blade is Blued like a hunting rifle or revolver, also if the cap comes off of your sheath an easy and long lasting fix would be to scuff the end of the sheath and wire brush the inside of the cap then bind them together again with epoxy, itl bind very well and likely wont come off again

I made knives for years and just about everyone who looked at my knives was always interested in a huge knife, high quality and wanted it to weigh nothing. They just don't understand a large knife is worth the weight factor if you get into a situation. I even jokingly made a large bowie which turned out to have a terrible crack in it so I put it in my water jet and cut out the middle so you had this fourteen inch long blade almost three and a half inches wide but it was only a quarter of an inch around the outside with all the middle cut out. I put a handle on it and it only weighted just over a pound and people wanted the bloody thing, I even a couple people get upset with me that it wasn't for sale. I have carried three knives with me anytime I went into the woods, one a very large bowie which I could process wood, dig a hole with or slaughter a bear if I had to with it. A camping knife, that had about a eight inch blade on it and a folding knife. The folder I didn't make as I consider folders to be disposable. I buy them at Walmart for $3.97 each in the fall and have about four of them on my person and in my gear. One breaks or gets lost I grab another one. I do have a friend who spent $1,200.00 on a folder from VALLOTTON (?), he bought it from Smoky Mountain Knife Works and they let him make payments on it. Mind you, it's your money and if you really just can't live your life without a $1.200.00 pocket folder then by all means please help yourself. I have friend who are total Glock boys and every day they turn toward Austria and bless the name of Gustav Glock, and that's fine. The really sad part of this story is about two months after he showed me this knife he dropped it over the side of a mountain accidentally. Yes, dropped it never to be recovered in this life. Large knives have weight to them, learn to handle the weight as part of your gear, just like knights in armour wore a whole suit of armour for protection in battle the large knife will save your life in a survival situation.

I bought this after wanting it for years the one downside with the blade itself is it was dull and not properly ground near the choil I did sharpen it and it takes an edge well it’s definitely my favorite knife

I got one..I love it. It's a big fun as hell good looking knife. I enjoy playing in the woods with it once in awhile, but it's definitely not something I would carry on a regular basis. It's a take it out every once in awhile and go play Jeremiah Johnson for a little bit knife, lol.

3 lbs? Mine says 23.8 oz. A pound is 16 oz. No offense meant, just saying, maybe somewhere you got some false info. 3 lbs would be 48 oz. That would be exorbitantly heavy.

it is not unusually big, it is not heavy, you got your weight wrong and it is more of a fighting knife. But it will work nice in the woods. It is stained rosewood. The end cap of the sheat does not fall of. It is screws not rivets, it is hand forged. It is now been made in 1055,1080,1085,1090 and 1095. the weight is 674 grams.

A Fixed Blade , Yeah ! Those are phenomenal knives by CS, you made a good purchase band I don't know any thing about stuff falling apart on them and it sounds like you have one of the old one in 1055hc they come in 1085hc now and hold a better edge I'm told. I also have the 1055hc version.

I ordered mine today but with some hesitation. It had at least one bad review, someone said it was like a cheap Chinese knockoff or something. But I ordered my Viking axe from the same seller on Amazon and that was the real thing so idk I guess I’ll see when it arrives

That bottom metal piece is to protect the blade tip...not to protect you if you fall off a horse.

The handle is horrible. Needs either more of a Mameluke type curve to it, or at least some texturing. Very difficult to hold on to in a back cut flow or snap cutting.
