Stay safe and warm out there! Every year I see too many people end up with frostbite or damage on their stretched lobes thanks to cold weather. I promise you every one of them really regretted not being more careful and more cautious with their lobes in the cold. We spend so much time carefully stretching and caring for these piercings, we should spend as much time being careful with them in the cols weather as well!

I don't have stretched lobes and not really interested in them for myself but this video is still really cool! For smaller stretched lobes, what about adding a crocheted string to the top of the mitten that can loop around the top of the ear to help it stay on? Just something I thought of.

Me to myself: this is a helpful and informative video, pay attention Also me: giggling like a 3rd grader when you're talking about caring for wooden plugs. P.S. Thank you immensely for your informative videos, I stopped stretching for a few years because of work reasons and just started back up again. There is so much better information available now than when I first started. Your videos have been awesome for me getting back into it and up to date. ❤️

Thanks so much for this video, and for the facial moisturizer tip. I have psoriasis as well and my skin gets very dry. I also just moved to Nashville in 2020 from California and have never seen snow or weather this cold before, my ears have definitely felt the difference. Just living in stone plugs and staying inside!

@@Lynn_Loheide it was beautiful! I was obsessed just seeing a bunch of white stuff on the ground because it’s something I’ve never experienced at home. It’s absolutely stunning on the trees and seeing all the roofs frosted. My cats did not like it one bit. They did like to stare at it from outside the window but did not like when I opened the door and let them explore. Was also quite literally stuck at home that Thursday and Friday due to like you said in the video lack of plows and salt trucks.

Right?! My ears aren't even big enough for those and I want to crochet a bunch of them. Of course my immediate thought was to add ears on top to make them cats haha (could even stitch whiskers on them too!)

Yes! I live in Michigan and my stretched ear ended up getting chapped due to the cold this year. This was my first year dealing with this. I didn’t even know this was a thing till it happened to me and I started trying to figure out why. Now I know.

I honestly never thought about this issue before thank you! I am currently restretching my lobes (I had 00g when I was 19, now I am 31), and roughly a year ago I was visiting the arctic cirlce in rovaniemi Finnland. We had -20C there, and even stayed in an ice-hotel one night lol. Since I definately want to return to this beautiful place, and have stretched lobes now, this Video will come in very handy. I feel prepared now :D.

I wish I knew about these once I got to larger sizes! I remember when I was at 5/8 for a year and then winter hit, and all of a sudden I had a blowout from the severe cold damaging my ears. I never had a blowout prior to this and It sucked so bad!

Never thought about this. I’m in the white mountains. I do always have them covered tho. Usually a full face and ear cover and a hat over them too tho. But the wood plugs are a great idea. Thanks for the vid!!

Silicone plugs and acrylic actually work fine in the winter because they aren't good conductors, porous materials also trap air, which is an insulator too. Remember that wood is also porous and can easily stick to your ears if you damage them. A lot of stones and glass are massive heatsinks too, wood is my favourite material to wear in general as it is light and doesn't get sweaty and irritating as fast as other materials, but I embedded some tritium vials that have a long lasting bright glow in clear acrylic and I love the way it looks, the intensity of the colour and thevariety of colours is just so wide, you can't get the same effect outside of a club with blacklights any other way, it is mesmerizing. I need to cover my ears as I have an 8mm conch and a 12mm flat too and cartilage is very suseptible to cold because it only recieves blood by diffusion, even in mild cold my ears will feel like they are burning pretty quick, might get some single flared wood for them, but I just love wearing clear glass in them as the effect is amazing!

Unfortunately acrylic is not a safe material! I have some blog posts on my website that go over why in-depth but I would never suggest anyone wear acrylic for any length of time but especially in the cold. It’s heart breaking some of the acrylic reactions I have seen. Silicone eyelets and plugs also allow a lot more cold in then solid wood and can fuse to the skin far easier then wood can especially for folks who are out for long hours in the snow.

I live in Chicago and our winters suck, most of the time, and I'm at 12mm and I have 3 trapper hats the flaps keep my lobes warm, especially when I just stretched to ½ inch 2 weeks ago and wearing SF glass plugs.

Great video! Could you consider doing a video about getting piercings with psoriasis. I find that around the 6 months of healing up to 1.5-2 years, my piercings get really dry and I get psoriasis patches around the piercings and I'm not sure what to do since its still healing. Thank you!

Hey Lynn 😊 I have 3/4” stretched lobes. I have wood plugs in right now, but I have a question. The inside of the stretch and where my lobes meet my face (I have attached lobes) almost feel like they have diaper rash. Would that be a cleaning issue? I know I’ve been lazy about cleaning the plugs themselves lately, I just wasn’t sure if it’d be a wood issue or an operator issue

Is there a particular size where this starts to be a concern? I’m at a 6g right now and so far I haven’t had any issues with this and I also can’t find any wood plugs any smaller than 2g.

What do I do if I am stretching during winter? I just can’t wait and it’s starting to get cold. I use glass and stainless steel (I know it’s cheap but it works for me) and can’t wear anything else atm. They’re also only 2g so I can’t wear mittens.

Going naked and using silicone tunnels would probably help with a stretched septum, and also wood works for septums too, plugs and pinchers.

Without seeing your ears or knowing more that’s hard to say. It could be a material reaction or an issue with products or care, scar tissue, many different factors!

How soon can I start to moisturize my earlobes after a large gauge initial lobe piercing? The only resources I can find online about healing lobes are about regular lobe piercings. (Mine we pierced to a 6g)
@Lynn_Loheide

They usually take 3-5 months to fully heal, and I would start moisturizing only after you were sure they were totally healed.
