Car insurance rates saw more than a 20% increase in 2023 and a 53% increase in the last 10 years, representing the second highest increase in the country. Colorado also has the 11th highest insurance rates of any state in the U.S.

Insurance cost is just the tip of the iceberg. Look at the cost of new vehicles! Even if accident rates remain the same, the repair and replacement costs are skyrocketing. Add fuel, food, housing, taxes..... and people are struggling everywhere.

Regarding relaxed rules for getting a license. There’s no requirement to show that you can drive on a major highway and no requirement to show that you can back into a parking spot or parallel park. Car insurance is basically a scam I’m in my early 40’s zero accidents, zero speeding tickets and I work from home so my 3yr old car has 20,000 miles on and and I’m seeing rates as high as $1,700 a year.

Yup. This. It's the licensing requirements - or rather lack thereof. In Germany the _average_ yearly cost for liability coverage is about $300, $900 for comprehensive. Yes, per year. And that's with _millions_ in coverage - far more than what you get here. France? $500/year for comprehensive. The difference? Licensing requirements. If you've ever driven in the EU, when you return back to the US, it's like you're coming back to a 3rd world country - and everyone pays the price and the people who drive the least will pay the most in order to subsidize the rest.

Well there’s your problem. You’re not supposed to shop for their highest premiums you can find - you’re supposed to shop for the lowest premiums you can find. Let me give you an example. When I was 21 years old, I bought a Toyota 4x4 pickup truck. The sticker price was $13,000 brand new. I had a perfectly clean driving record with no tickets, no accidents, no claims whatsoever. I had the highest deductible I could legally have while having a loan on the vehicle - $500 at the time, and I lived outside of any major cities where crime was low and accident rates were below average. I got my insurance for $450/mo., but that wasn’t the highest rate I found - it was the lowest one. The highest was $860/mo., and this was back in 1993. And yes, that was in Colorado - specifically north of Boulder and West of Longmont out in the boonies. Nobody cares what the highest premium you can find is - it doesn’t matter, because that’s not the insurance agency you should be insuring your vehicle through - you’re not their target demographic. You need to be looking for the insurance agency that specializes in covering your specific situation, because they are going to have the lowest premiums for you, and the difference is going to be quite staggering.

I got a clean driving record. Here in Washington Sate I pay $106 for full coverage on my 2005 4runner and $92 for my 1987 F150 I drive 3 times a month if that!

I also blame those other criminals who buy or rent expensive vehicles with those $2000 bumpers and then try to get _you_ to run into them. Of course, nothing really compares to some distracted phone head who will forget the whole thing if you just pay for his $4000 paint scratch. Oh! But wait! YOU have _insurance!_ Lucky you! Those $2400 insurance premiums for that $4000 paint scratch really paid off, didn't it? (Think anyone _else_ might have to make up the difference there, _criminal?!_ )

Insurance premiums has nothing to do with the Federal government! Has to do with the State actuarial calculations based on amount of crashes, amount of claims, number and type of vehicles stolen, risks caused by weather conditions and geographic location!

Costs of cars, size, auto thefts, and uninsured are way up. These insurance companies are also leeching off the good drivers to pay for states like Florida and Texas that have way more natural disasters. It's just cheaper to join all these people on the roads and just not pay for insurance anymore. Lol

Where do u live? Outside Denver we had hail so bad last year that everyone in my neighborhood just got a new roof. Everyone!! Hail was so bad that the damage caused leaking inside home which caused water damage. Den and kitchen had to be repainted.
