Designed for, well, carry in a vest pocket, and would have been taken out by one hand for a close-encounter altercation, say, within a few yards. Fast shooting, no aiming necessary. Like a dispute between two gentlemen at a card table. My comment on the video is that the shooter is holding it like a .357 magnum, completely not necessary both for design or recoil. I have a 1908 vest pocket myself, and I never shoot it with a two hand grip.

@@skiller189x4 The Colt Vest Pocket does indeed have sights. The foresight is quite small and located in the very front of the "U" shaped channel top dead center of the slide. The rear sight is rather a constriction of that same channel at the rear end and appears to be milled into a section of slide not milled out for channel. These are fixed sight, part of the basic structure, like the sights on a fixed sight revolver. You are correct the effective range for the pistol is likely closer to contact range that across a card table. It is quite obviously not a target pistol and five yards might be a good distance for checking accuracy potential. Since the individual shooting in the video was seemingly 'aiming' at the bit of wood on the ground, he was attempting to get some accuracy (a very relative word in this case); seeing how tiny and precarious the grip presents, the extra stability of the other hand is not amiss.

@@OldManMontgomery Indeed, sir, you are quite correct, the pistol does indeed have a set of sights, such as they are. I took mine out to get a better look at what I had apparently never really noticed before. The small front “post” and the channel at the rear. It’s quite interesting, as even my more modern Colt New Agent has trench sights only, yet the little vest pocket actually has a front post! I stand corrected, and appreciate you pointing it out. I imagined such a feature was seldom used in the heat of a card dispute, but there it is!

@@skiller189x4 I must agree, they were seldom used. What amazes me many early autoloaders had little tiny sights and yet the sights were mostly accurately coordinated with the impact of the projectile. I do not understand the reasoning for all that.

Mr. Chaddock, I do have one. Along with the FN M1906, the same pistol made by FN in Liege, Belgium. I seem to be collecting .25 ACP pistols of that era much by misadventure. A miserable cartridge, but the history is amazing. My size and build put paid to carrying an ankle gun. So I never think in those terms. I find the type to be pointless as a self-defense item, but they do disappear in a trouser pocket.

It would work but there are concerns of reliability from 25acp. Also harder to aim just because it's so small. A pocket 380 might be a better modern alternative.

It is a gun, after all. People downplay .25acp, but put it in perspective: imagine stabbing someone with a 1/4" steel rod. If nothing else, that's going to be very, very painful.

@SCPF BRASIL 22 is more powerful

@@dar6095 .22LR and only very slightly and only out of a 6"+ barrel. .25 is much better for self defense because it's a center fire. Rimfire cartridges are sketch as hell for protection lol

Yes, as that is in fact what these pistols were designed for. I think that as a backup gun one of these 25s would work just fine for close encounters.
