I have a question about arc length in dc tig. Obviously you want as short of an arc length as possible for the best penetration but if you had to make a fairly wide bead as either a cap or just that the specs require it to cover more of the steel can you draw a longer arc length with higher amps to widen out your cone or are you better off just making multiple passes or doing some kind of weave or walk the cup?

Ben Miller sharpening your tungsten to about 15 degrees like a needle and you should get a wide, low voltage arc column.

Its crazy how easy you make that tig root pass look... weldon, but i was wondering why you start out with 3/32's 7018's rather than just go right to 1/8 rods, would seem like higher deposition rate, only need to grab one type of rod therfore less time and potentially less cost for the filler metal and I would think better you might get better fusion and less chance of slag inclusions or porosity given the higher heat?

Plz what are the tips on how to pass an xray weld test. Defects to avoid and things to do. Just tips thanks
@mancubwelder7924
@mancubwelder7924 4 жыл бұрын
Tip #1 If you even think you dip your tungsten stop right away and grind a little bit. Tip#2 If you keep welding with a dirty tungsten you are putting some particles of tungsten in the puddle.You wont even see it your eye. When they x-ray your pipe it will have tons of white tungsten particles when looking at the x-ray. Tip#3 Bring you tungsten back into your cup where you cant touch your puddle Tip#4 If your welding carbon steel get all the mill scale off where your are welding. Tip#5 On carbon still pipe get the glass (silica) deposits off with a file or whatever you have on hand. After you make each pass. Tip#6 Do a slight pause on your toes with tig to burn in good. That were you will get lack of fusion. Hope this help buddy

Maybe it's the camera microphone but it sounded like you were running 7018 in straight polarity. Also if you have a low spot on the root and you just turn up your amperage and run it over, you will just end up making it worse.

A quick stringer with 3/32 lo-hi on the top of the bevel before the cap will make the last cap pass wet in alot better and you won't have to stack as much iron to get that last pass above the bevel. Anyways great job brother that's just a little trick I employ on any horizontal weld.
