Hi, Jim - great video, thanks. I've been looking at these exact two machines so this was helpful. Suggestion for future a video of these two machines' comparisons - fire 'em both up, use identical espresso, grind, etc., and then blind-test the flavor, pour, etc. with three volunteers who are discerning espresso fans who'd tell which they liked better and why. I'd love to see the outcome. Thanks again!

It would depend a lot of the grinder you'll use at home, so a blind test won't say too much, a Silvia paired with a Niche is not the same as the Elizabeth paired with some low cost girnder etc.

Can you Please do a comparison between the Lelit Glenda, Rancilio Silvia, and Bezzera New Hobby? They seem very similar in price point and features (aside from the Glenda's PID). I want to learn how steam power, build quality, parts availability stacks up.

Which one is better for getting the right milk microfoam? I want to upgrade from Lelit Ana as I'm disappointed by the steam pressure.
@chris_auernhammer
@chris_auernhammer 2 жыл бұрын
You can get good (micro-)foam out of the Anna (at least up to ~ 200 ml of milk/steaming process) it‘s just harder and takes longer. You‘ll get good and better foam from both elizabeth and pro if you‘re doing it right! The anna has pretty normal steam pressure for a single circle machine. You‘ll never get really high and stable steam pressure out of a single circle machine. The boiler is just to small for that (~250 ml). So any dual boiler machine will always perform better when it comes to that. But keep in mind that you can as I said get good foam out of the Anna. Most of the time it‘s lack of skill not bad equipment. Just watch some videos about milk steaming and practice it a lot.

Excellent comparison of the two machines. Are they the same price? Rancilio didn't enlarge the machine's drip tray, which surprises me. It's always been too small. The pre-infusion difference that you point out might be a deal breaker for me.

No machine is perfect but the features Elisabeth provides are pretty good and even more expensive Machines don't provide. These are some excellent ideas that could be in many more Machines hopefully in the future. Yes, the finishing of the Machine could be better but they concentrate more on the technical aspect. (something has to give for that price) The bottom line is to make great Espresso and Elizabeth gives you more options to archive it.

Lelit do include a lot of great features but they do look like they've got a load of parts and put them in as they went along, compared to the silvia which looks a little more pla ned, look inside ECM or Profitec and the difference is very pronounced. Lelit do have videos on how to fix almost everything is that so you don't have to send it back? Do like Lelit though.

@Jon Woo I disagree. Depending on the beans/roast it can be make a big difference. Of course, if you just drink dark to medium roasts it won‘t make a big difference. However, having the ability of 20 s blooming phase, actually opens the possibilities of pulling longer shot types like Raos Allongé or pour over (Spro) style shots.

@@ukonthego : I am absolutely loving it and yes, I am actually very happy without having programmable anything or preinfusion. I installed the PID on my previous "regular" Silvia, but the convenience of dual-boiler and build-in PID that is in its proper position (not at the bottom near portafilter) is fantastic. If I want I can simulate preinfusion just by turning it on, then off and then on again, but I did not have to do any of that. Temp stability is fantastic and the weight of the machine is such that I lock portafilter in place without holding the machine with my free hand. Loving it. There is one downside - loud pump, but it is for several seconds from time to time.

I owned two Lelit Elizabeth. The first one last almost two years. The boiler broke down and was losing steam, generating condensation inside the machine. As a replacement they sent me a new one and it arrived broken, failure in the anti-vacuum valve. I do not recommend Lelit. I haven’t tried the Rancilio.

@@1983Jacko I felt the same way, but then I read that the Lelit Mara X has two PID sensors, which give the machine capability to switch between steam and shot priority. With the E61 head I was thinking that this makes for a very interesting alternative to the double boiler. Have you tried both machines or are you only going on the typical benefits of a double boiler machine?
