I recently ordered 26 4K movies and this was one of them. I can still remember the very first time that I saw it on TV. It was in 1975 and I was 7 years old. The flying monkeys really didn't sit well with me.

I thought the sepia tone looked better in blu ray . It looks completely rose in the new 4k. I thought it was my TV in the way it handles the sepia , but I see here its apparently not. I have a Samsung TV which tend to have a red bias but not that much.

No idea why I am watching these, I don't even have a 4k monitor or tv screen ;) Seing as my 2009 tv is still going strong with full hd and not likely to break down in the foreseeable future, I'll come around for the 8k or 10k remasters.

I remember being amazed at the blu ray when I first got it because of the impressive quality. When the 4k version came out, I got and watched it on the day of release and wow! The quality is insane for such an old movie. I have a pretty good 4k player/TV so I think that also contributed. The colors and detail jumped off the screen, the sound was powerful, and it just felt like I was watching it all over again. I'm not sure if they'll ever release another remaster of The Wizard of Oz but I could see room for improvement, particularly with the sound. For now, the 4k is the best. You can really see and hear every single detail. Some people reported grain/blur issues, I can see it too. It seems like it's only during certain parts, particularly when Dorothy first arrives in Oz. This would be amazing to see fixed someday.

I’m having trouble with the 4K digital streaming to my 4K TV... some apps say it’s 4K and apps like Prime and iTunes haven’t converted it over. I stream from movies anywhere and vudu but can’t tell if it’s in 4K or not... even though it says I have it in 4K...

This 80 yr old movie looks much better than it has the right to! Yet they can't manage some of the newer releases? I don't care for the sepia turned grey in the 4k. The rest I'm on the fence about. It's like they darkened the scenes but made small details lighter & brighter. (Or is that the whole point?) I'm new to 4K. 😳

I don’t understand-why does the 4K version look darker and blurrier than the 2009 version?
@Mymoonization4 жыл бұрын
Dear Andrew I think you don't know how HDR works. HDR gives the impression that everything is black but in reality it’s not the case because the contrast between strong light and dark remains very intense and important. A 1080p image without HDR remains flat and we have been used to seeing this for decades while image with HDR processing is more complex. Watch other examples on KZfaqrs who experience it themselves by taking pictures with an iPhone to process in HDR. You'll see the same result on KZfaq. Cheers !

Scott Starr I agree with you, from what I see of the scenes posted on this video some scenes actually look better on the Blu-ray over the 4K. The owl scene and the one after it look better on the Blu-ray in my opinion.

@davidhunt2404 жыл бұрын
I have both (plus a properly calibrated TV) and the difference between the bluray and the HDR version is like night and day. The bluray is over-saturated and looks slightly blurry and the black levels are wrong as is some of the colour balance - the faces look magenta rather than pink. I don't know where the 4k content came from for this video, but on my system, it looks totally different and the colours on the HDR version look normal, i.e. Dorothy's face looks white/pink, the flowers on the outside of the Emerald City are distinguishable with petals rather than red blobs.
