It's sort of the point Finegold hammers home in so many videos. We patzers at this level might play a great opening, a great middlegame, maybe even a strong endgame, but then we blunder a rook on move 32 (or mate on move 14) and it all really doesn't matter.

I watch a lot of speedrun content, and going in you know a master player has great calculation and in-depth knowledge of openings. But it's always end game technique that I find the most impressive. Game 3 is a good example, the other player can hang in the opening and middle game but as soon as the queens come off the extra pawn is an overwhelming advantage and Eric plays in a really specific way that makes converting look so easy.

If Eric castles kingside then opponent could use the semi open g file to attack his king. Castling queenside also allows Eric to conduct a king side pawn storm to help attack the opponent's king. So it's both a defensive and offensive idea. However it proved to be double edged because the opponent played a very strong attack on Eric's king.

@@simon555-55 Intuitively the open g-file just seemed extremely benign to me compared to castling out in the open with xc3 coming up next. I didn't think that any pawn storm would have any relevance at all given that the g-file was already open and he was already threatening Bxh7?
