sometimes i think i'm the only one who really apreciated Prometheus, the ideea of who is the dude in the seat in alien1, backstory for the world, heavy philosophical & religious tones (space jesus), possible the best AI in any movie in David and still a mistery (to me) on what's that creature that spawned from the engineer at the end

I wish we would’ve gotten this film and then go into Alien Covenant. I think people don’t understand that the prequel movies weren’t supposed to be about the Xenomorphs. They were supposed to be about the Engineeers and other aliens of that world. A real waste and disappointment that we didn’t get this film.

As far as I remember, the kickback came from people coming out of Prometeus and saying, "Why was there no Aliens in it?" Scott said long ago that it would be three sci-fi films, but at the end of the third, it would link to Alien. The word is that the studio basically told Scott to give them monsters. Now, I don't know how legit it is or remember who was saying this as it has been a good while, but there were some words that at one meeting, Scott left and was heard saying something along the lines of "If they want aliens, I will give them fucking aliens."

It’s pretty interesting….remember in Prometheus the green jade translucent rock in the altar room? Sure looks like the alien in this concept, and the hallway Shaw is walking down is made from the same exact material!! I always thought the alien came from some of that green jade…..WHO’S WITH ME?!?

Interesting. I would love to see what his full treatment would have been. I was onboard with Prometheus when he said he wanted explore the aliens that built the juggernaut. I was ok with not having our buddy the Zenomorph if he could give us new horrors. I felt Prometheus delivered but had some issues. His engineers didn’t live up to expectations. Other sci fi writers have used the concept in very ingenious and horrifying ways. These guys seemed tame. Dropping the idea of them being one with the technology like the space jockey suggested was a mistake. Covenant was a very pretty rehash of the other Alien movies and you could tell it wasn’t the story he wanted to tell but was obligated too.

I like the idea of humans visiting the creator. I like the scene in promethus when they wake up the engineer. A diferent kind of horror the religious theme of all the movie. So sad we dont get more of that.

If Ridley Scott is up for making it, I'd watch it because it feels incomplete and those loose end's need to be tied up.

I know Prometheus had its flaws, but truth be told i found the Engineers to be more terrifying than the Aliens themselves. At the end of the day the Xenomorphs are basically drones driven by nothing but instincts. But the Engineers are far superior to humans, their motivations are still unknown yet they are no less hostile. I really wish we had gotten a true sequel rather than Covenant, or at the very least some sort of resolution. Who knows, perhaps one day we will in some form.

I didn’t want to see a movie about the Covenant crew. I wanted to see a direct continuation of Prometheus with Shaw and David. There was a much better story in the movie that happened before Alien Covenant and this was it.

The concept art itself is better than the garbage that Covenant ended up being. Why oh why did they give in to the fans complaining that Prometheus didn’t have enough xenomorph in it?? We were robbed of an epic sequel (Paradise).

Alien Paradise lost still could be made, it would be set between Prometheus and Covenant, as Planet 4 would not be the Engineers home world, but another peaceful colony of their creation, but when David and Show discovered the Engineers as Devils on their home world; he decided to destroy them along with their creation on planet 4

The most disappointing thing about not getting Paradise Lost and seeing the “dark paradise” is we could have gotten some really Gigeresque bizarre and alien scenery. Obviously working a story into this would have been a challenge if it was just David and Shaw on an Engineer world but still… also the working in of philosophical symbolism from the Paradise Lost book to the second movie would have been very engaging. I still have hope that the Engineer world in Covenant was just a feudal or garden world, maybe even a religious world where the inhabitants are regular plebs. I have hope we’d get to see what a real, bio mechanical warrior/scientific engineer society would look like.

Alien Paradise Lost the movie we should have got .. mind blowing possibilities and storylines, {the space jockey/ the engineers, their home world, did they create other species (Predator), are engineers split into 2 types, the religious good ones and the experiment create and destroy bad ones}…. The deviation from Prometheus to Covenant was as depressing as Alien/Aliens to Alien 3.

I like Prometheus and covenant as films but not as films connected to the alien universe.We don't need to know where they came from and the explanations offered up in those films aren't a satisfying or even good origin story for them. They should've just been their own movies about some other aliens or something. The best way to progress or expand the Alien series is what they done with that series of short films they made. Standalone stories that don't rely on Ripley connections etc and can stand on their own merits. Over time there must have been hundreds of unknown encounters with these things and they're only interested in connecting everything together when they dont need to.

The first image I thought it's a 'glass xenomorph'. It's almost an amalgamation of the Deacon, Neomorph and Xenomorph. The second image is fabulous and I love the idea that they are walking through an unimaginably large hive of some sort. Not necessarily xenomorph but maybe other species that are native to that planet. The third image I immediately thought of Charlize Theron's character from Prometheus, have no idea why but it looked almost exactly like her, the ceiling looks like water, as if there is a small river or stream over the head of character (just like how the moisture on the egg in Alien dripping upwards rather than down). Could be a catacomb (call back to Alien: Trilogy). And the final image I just though of Star Wars, as the craft just looks like a copy/paste. It would be cool to have Alien: Paradise Lost as a graphic novel, like they did with the William Gibson script for Alien 3. There are a lot of wasted potential spanning the entirety of the Alien universe, and releasing them in graphic novel format would be the next best thing.

I really wanted to see this movie, I liked Covenant but not as much as Prometheus, sad that we're never going to see it, Prometheus deserved a proper sequel

So while I get that Prometheus has its fans and Covenant has its end of the day why did the direction of the first change to what we ultimately got, well that is very much because of Ridley Scott. As I sat here and listened to what he thought the sequel should be or a direction and he begins explaining about God being the Devil, a dark paradise, etc, I was left going what is he on about, and then it hit me. The changes from Prometheus to Covenant were done because I think Scott was saying this to the excs at Fox and they probably couldn't follow his train of thought either and the old rule is if you can't get a base pitch of a story in an elevator ride you have a problem. End ofvthe day I think Scott did Prometheus and 20th Century Fox pulled him back down and said just make a fun xenomorph film if you want these other elements great but I don't know if audiences would like this bew direction. Again no knock if you could follow this or if you liked Prometheus, but I remember many many audiences going what is this and as a result passed on Covenat.

The creature never needed an origin or a creator

If i remember correctly Ridley Scott wanted the original Alien to be translucent but they could not achieve the desired FX for a full suit back then. Maybe that xeno photo is a nod to the original idea.

I just wish we had gotten this as the sequel instead of Covenant which went completely left field from what Prometheus was setting up...they should have just let him finish the third film cuz now the 2 movies make no sense. Hopefully Romulus remedies this and somewhat bridges these movies together

Prometheus was a decent film. I know it had issues but overall they did a lot of really cool stuff with it. The sequel had huge potential, but they messed that one up really badly.

Instead of making Prometheus 2 a sequel to alien covenant, I would prefer that they simulate the experience by trying to drown me in a septic tank.

The above featured alien is an adult Deacon, a xenomorph incubated by an Engineer. "What if we could meet God and God turns out to be the Devil".... The engineers are not evil and they are no Gods, which is why Elizabeth Shaw still keeps her faith in God despite all. She said something similar to the line of "they created us, but who created them ?". We are the mirror image of them (and God created man in his own image). Weyland Yutani is travelling the vastness of space, terraforming planets into Earth like conditions and even creating life in the form of androids, David having become the first and for good reason the only human made android unbound by protocoll, effectively freeing him of slavery and giving him free will. Not only that but Weyland Yutani has been doing its best to aquire the gift of Prometheus (the black goo pathogen I like to call Gods juice). The Engineers are simply a race that does all to survive like all other species. They were the pioneers of Terra forming and bio engineering (hence the name). However the reason they created us is to secure their legacy. We are a byproduct, used as incubators in order to create super soldiers when needed. In my mind the Engineers are in an aeon old war with the Yautja (predators). Now as far as I know, Ridley Scott was not a fan of the amalgamation of the two franchises. Personally I think they are the perfect marriage even if they messed it up in AVP 2. What I love about the Engineers having created us, is the possibility that there may be many more worlds like Earth that were terraformed by them, either for their own expansion or to establish further farm planets whichget populated by humans. This could mean that there are younger planets with human cavemen or similar, whilst much older planets than Earth could hold highly technological civilisations more advanced than us, although this is only possible if they have not yet followed the invitations of the Engineers or they would get purged.

Unfortunately many people that had gone seen the Alien re release in theaters said no new trailer and no new CinemaCon clip 😢

Covenant sucks because they talked Ridley into dumbing this Prometheus sequel down. Studio wanted a xeno based film, which is easier to market. Budget was reduced as well I believe.

Shame the prequels weren’t allowed to be prequels. Covenant was such a bizzare and intriguing mix of Alien and Prometheus. Showed what the prequels could have been, without studio interference catering to all the big brains out there clamoring for “MOrE XenO”!

As far as I'm concerned, the Alien movie franchise ended with James Cameron's ALIENS. I accept many of the great comicbooks Dark Horse published, also. Past that, I don't even acknowledge 'em.

Not sure if this would be better. Maybe it would have David responsible for the monster, and still crappy characters. This could have looked good but estethics were not the problem of AC, the story and characters were.

I thought Prometheus was a really good Sci fi movie, really beautiful and Noomi Rapace was amazing, so I was so disappointed with dumb Covenant and pissed off that they killed her character off screen, making the whole damm thing pointless just like with Aliens and then Alien 3 with newt and Hicks. Someone should still make this.
