One question I received from a viewer is how do I soundproof my concrete walls! One thing people do not realize is that concrete walls are not as soundproof as you may think.
In this video, I will explain why sound will travel pretty freely through a concrete wall and how to soundproof a concrete wall. Some of these methods can also be applied for soundproofing a wall in general.

3:09 I think we have different definition of concrete wall. What you have here is concrete blocks wall, not full concrete wall. Those blocks are empty inside with only thin conrete wall. Not to compare with concrete walls with regular rebar support.

Will a reinforced concrete soundproof my new room better ? Or concrete walls with regular rebar support ?
@Bart-dg6qv
@Bart-dg6qv Жыл бұрын
@@kuronekosan2830 Concrete (with rebar construction inside) is usually used in foundation walls. Sometimes one of the inside walls is also concrete. Other than that other materials are used. Concrete is not that healthy. You need something else than concrete as it is "base" material. Other question is if you live in a house made of sticks and paper or normal construction.

Was in the building sector in Sweden for 8 years, been in concrete houses from the 50s and 60s 90% of my time and most of it is built bad. When someone is over or under you with a big concrete grinding machine you hear if it's built good enough. If made correct it's superb.

Thanks for the video. Would you use MLV on a concrete wall? If so, how would you attach it? I would not be able to put sheetrock on top of it,. would just paint it.

Hi I’ve seen some sound proofing that is basically wood slates, with a membrane behind, or an easier way of saying it ,the slates are connected to the membrane, do you no if this works , or could making an acoustic panel to cover the whole wall work .

What’s the steps involved to attach Mlv onto a concrete wall. Does the drywall directly attach onto the MLV once applied ?

I'm buying a property in Mexico during the construction phase. The developer said they can modify anything at cost. What's the best solution? The whole apartment is polished concrete. Floors walls etc. Cinder block on the dividing walls and slab ceiling. I'm concerned about the cinderblocks partioning each apartment.

This might work for airborne noise, but what about impact noise? For me, that's a MUCH bigger issue!

This doesn't make sense. My friends condo is solid. There is no sound what so ever. I was going to apply cement to my current walls instead of drywall because drywall is a pain in the boot and the concreate is heavier and eliminates all the extra steps. I don't get why this won't work. 1sf @ 1" of cement weighs 12.5lbs according to Google. How can that possibly do less than drywall? Please explain because after all of the research I've done says mass and decoupling is best. Concreat is so heavy and inexpensive. For the floor im doing 3/4 OSB then expanding construction adhesive then 1/2 OSB then self level concreate.

I'd recommend put your reading material near the camera lol Also saying that 1 layer of air gap is sufficient isn't always true when trying to block out a low frequency bass sound

Hello, I'm trying to answer a question. The only information that I can find is basically in this video namely "how to soundproof a concrete wall". What I'm trying to determine is if it is better to do a wood frame wall inside of a 6-inch concrete wall with an air gap and rockwool between the studs or...should I simply do two wood frame walls with staggered studs both insulated with rockwool? I'm designing my own split-level house and want a home theatre below-grade. The two outside walls will be concrete of course with the soil on the other side as it is essentially the basement. I will add a wood frame wall inside that with rockwool. The opposite two walls however will face the rest of the house's interior. I want to isolate the home theatre so I can sleep in my room peacefully! Should I make those two interior walls of concrete and insulated wood frame, or simply a double frame wall? I want good acoustics in the theatre, but most importantly I want the rest of the house to be dead quiet during a loud movie! Im going so far as to have double doors into the theatre with about 24 inches between them. The ceiling will be 2x12 fir joists with a rubber subfloor and more rockwool and a thin floating ceiling decoupled from the joists. Basically it will be a box inside a box. I just want to know if it's an advantage to pour concrete on all four sides of the theatre or just double frame walls on the interior walls.

Concrete is over 3 times denser than drywall, plywood, mdf or osb. But a single wall of cinder blocks is not going to do magic.

So my question is, who do you hire for something like this? You do want to find someone who knows what they're doing. What specific type of google search would one do to find a sound proofing vendor? There's so much information about sound proofing - too much in fact, and not much as far as who to hire. I'd rather do it my self I spose, but I'm getting too old for that kind of stuff!

If you google search "Soundproofing contractors" it should show some in your area. If you live in a smaller rural area then I would go on social media and ask on a community board. Those will usually give you a lot of advice on who to hire. Best of luck!

Hi. I have a concrete party wall with a neighbour who has a kitchen attached to that wall. We hear all kinds of clatter all day long, be it placing utensils on their cook top, mortar and pestle grinding, till late night. We tried fibre glass insulation and it did not help at all to our dismay. We are considering adding another concrete wall with some air gap. Any thoughts if this might work? Thanks a ton!

Concrete is an extremely good sound proofing material, not sure why this guy doesn't acknowledge this. Air leaks through the wall or any penetrations is where to look and seal up. My guess is you don't really have a Concrete wall, maybe a plaster one. Concrete stops sound extremely well.

Can you please be clear if you are refering to concrete slab or concrete blocks.. since for concrete slab I read a lot of laboratory tests and the noise reduction dba is 55 - 59 for 20 cm thick wall. Which is already huge reduction and no way you can hear person talking on the other side

What about building a 6" thick 8' tall concrete garden wall to stop sound before it reaches the structure? Would address reverb issues by building wooden lattice fence over the concrete to break up sound waves. Trying to stop noise from a Motorcycle club next door, as well as sound coming from their Harley's since they park in front of my house. Low frequencies from bikes and bass music. Police are 100% unhelpful because they are afraid of the MC so I'm essentially thrown to the wolves here lol.

Alright video but you keep steering away from an existing wall sound proofing to building a new wall. I thought this video was for an existing wall sound proofing.? Unfortunately I've unsubscribed as the video's tend to steer away from the original content stated in the title.

TRUE for impact sound but FALSE for airborne sound. Below are the attenuations: - 50 dB for a frame-wood wall (2x4" + 5/8" Gypsum boards on both sides) - 53 dB for a bare plain concrete wall 200mm = 8" thick

I have a TV room that I painted dark on purpose. How about that FlexSeal rubber coating compound advertised on TV, being a rubber compound. My guess is it would deaden sound very well. Has anybody tried that.

Never used it, but I read about a guy who sprayed his whole camper van with the stuff and he claimed it made a huge difference. That was comparing it to thin steel though, not a wall. As far as strength, mythbusters used the stuff on cinder block and it made it almost bombproof lol. 😊

Click bait title you then say "not as soundproof as you might think". Doesn't not equal "NOT soundproof at all". Concrete is extremely sound resistant any anyone who's been in a concrete structure knows that.
