BEGINNER NOV:
Regular work 6 days/week
Can also add hacks either pre or post ride most days
NOVICE
15 min trot every 4th day for 2 weeks, moving upto 20 min trot every 4th day for 2 weeks
Canter work - Start with 20 min trot, then 3 x 2min canters seperated by 2 min walks with a long walk to cool down, every 4th day for 2 weeks
Add 1 min of canter to the sets for the next month until you have performed 2 weeks of 3 x 4min canter sets
TRAINING
Same as above, but add an extra minute until your horse is comfortably doing 3x 5 min canters
PRELIMINARY
Same as above but now also adding in Hillwork. This is quite variable depending on the hill. Ask a professional for advice and err on the side of caution rather than running your horse too hard too fast.
Good luck

My showjumping/dressage ponies routine Monday: lunged .Tuesday : 45 mins schooling.Wednesday: 45mins schooling Thursday: day off .Friday : jumping .Saturday : intense hack with my friend (4mile circuit trot canter gallop with small intervals of walk .Sunday: 25 mins schooling then 1 1/2 mile walk hack .Please don’t say any of this is in correct as mike hallows has helped me create this along with his wife and daughter. On a sat or sun I go to a show but not every week

This is just what I was looking for! Great video. Here in Quebec, eventing isn't very popular. So.. that's why there's not a lot of event coach. Next show season I was planning to start jumper and eventing in Ontario with my mare but I did not know how to organize a training plan. I'm lucky, on your videos I found everything I needed. Thank yoooou! And keep posting please!! BTW: Sorry for my English! I'm french :-)

My sister loves eventing but works FIFO, so she employs me to get her horse ready for when she gets back. Said horse is an 18h, Trakehner x TB that HATES trotting at the best of times. -_- He's also inclined to canter very slowly and more up and down than forward. She wonders why I prefer SJing!! He's finally almost at Novice fitness by the sounds of it. Wish me luck!? =/ Hopefully this information helps!!

We're pretty lucky cause we have a race track (trotting track so is smaller and sand footing) a 10 min drive from us we can use for only $5, thats really good for interval training, tho will be interesting to see what my ottb does there :P

I have an OTTB who is very good and a very good jumper. She doesnt rush jumps, but lands in a full gallop even when starting the jump in a trot over very small jumps (18 inches or so) she can jump 4+ ft, but not safely because of the galloping. Also when i ask her to canter she takes a few gallop strides before slowing into her beautiful working canter. any tips???

Can someone give me specific details on how to condition a Andalusian/Lusitano for Eventing? He is a big horse and has big controlled strides but gets tired very easily and can't keep up with the other horses. I know he has potential because when we train with the other more experienced horses and riders they are always spooking, refusing and failing jumps, while he doesn't spook at all, he never refuses and clears the jumps like they were not even there. He is a natural at show jumping and dressage but I really need to work on cross country with him because he gets tired so easily. What I do now is gallop up and down a steep hill behind the stables I work at and that seems to be working but I worry for his joints. Honestly, if anyone can help me condition this horse I would be so grateful! He was so expensive but I just had to get him because he is an angel!

Not sure if you found a way to, but here’s what I do for conditioning. I make a few trainings in the usual week about trotting, then work with a lot of grid work. Walking up trails/hills really helps of leg/back strength and stamina. Plus taking in consideration the videos guide lines.

TheBlondeEquestrian I know I’m not a professional but I went to an Alycia Burton clinic once and she said to relax rather than tensing and absorb the impact with the thigh. It really helps a lot! (As a high-withered thoroughbred owner, trust me haha 😂) hope this helps!
