I am absolutely heartbroken for Christine. I AM IN THE US AND HAD AN EXTREMELY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. My ex as well as this sick monster are both sociopaths!! My ex swept me, my family and my friends off my feet. He was a "conman" but not to get money from me. He had a serious mental issue I found out later. Was a pathological liar and went to extreme lengths to hide his past and like a bad movie I ended up finding out so many things later - like he had had 2 previous wives and a daughter. While we were engaged I became pregnant as well. Good for her that she will not let her experience make her bitter. Unfortunately since I had to battle the court system to ensure he got supervised visitation with my son, and I had very little money and he came from wealth, it turned into a 10 year battle and a nightmare....He totally ruined my life! And YES, I am bitter and haven't even dated anyone for decades because he made my life hell and my trust completely vanish!! I will pray for you Christine and that pedophile should go to jail for life, not just 18 years?!

she could have EASILY checked if he was LEGIT, he said he went to oxford right? she should have asked his FULL NAME, and asked WHAT YEAR DID YOU GRADUATE? and if he said no no, thats a red flag, if he gave a full name, she should have rung up oxford and asked was there a student by this name attending that year? if they said NO, well she knows he is full of it and if oxford refused to tell her the info she should have done her own research to check if there was a guy with that name who attended oxford and his photo, even if she had to hire a private detective for say $500 to check it out, it would have saved her $500,000

I feel horrible for Christine because I know what it is like to be scammed, but looking back I’m sure she wishes that she had not believed him when he said he was a Rothschild. I know that I wish I knew now what I had known back then, otherwise I wouldn’t have lost $250 in grocery money. Just like with my situation, it was very foolish of her to believe that this man was a very successful person. For me, someone tried to use the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and make the scam look real. So I sent money to them thinking that I could get a computer, foolishness on my part. If this man truly was a Rothschild, he would not have needed to borrow money from her. But that’s how cons get you, they trick you into believing everything they tell you. Once they managed to get you hooked in, that’s when they take advantage of you.

Why didn't his sister warn her? They met when the relationship was new. Especially since his own brother was one of his victims, and is this the same brother that was married to Alex's sister-in-law who said "I hope you haven't given him any money"? Also, she said her house sold for approx £500K, she gave him £150K and that she didn't give him everything. The next thing she says is she had no money left, he had taken it all. He had previously taken at least £125K and she estimates he took in the region of £500K overall. Confusing.

I'm going to chalk it up to that, because listening to her story there were red flags and she did not recognize it. Also she made decisions (she was conned but not forced), so for example putting up your house for him to get money was a choice she made. She had been through a divorce she should have been wary of financial battles and perhaps be a little more cautious. Sad really, lovely lady.

People usually don’t do that. I would have just said no thank you and left! It happened to me one time when I was at a bubble tea shop- while waiting for my order this guy approached me and started talking to me and I just got up and walked to where more people were and waited for my order there. As soon as I got my drink I was out of the store in flash. Don’t know him, don’t want to know him.
