This guy is a once in a generation player.. Hands down. Who knows the next time we will see someone with his skills and results on the ice. He is a human highlight reel.

He makes hockey more beautiful to watch than ever, making non-hockey people watch the game more closely. Winning the Cup will be so well-deserved for McDavid. Nevertheless, the Cup will simply be the topping on the ice cream -- a topping that will reiterate his already more-than-obvious GOAT status.

Gretzky will always be the GOAT because he has the accolades and the records, but imo McDavid is already the most talented hockey player of all time.

I agree that McDavid had the best highlight of all time but you need to remember that media coverage was not even 100% back in 2003. You just had some random games here and there that you could watch. So players from before are very handicapped in highlight compilations due to this fact.

All of my bad talk to text comments boil down to this. ..mario lemieux is the greatest player of all time..and mcdavid seems to have that kind of talent if not more..if i say gretzky is best ever..then all these talented kids ..no matter what..will never have a shot at that claim..because 99s inflated statistics will never be matched..due to superior defense and goalies..so no matter what crosby..ovetchkin or mcdavid does theyll fall short..because of statistical records that cant be broken

1sr..dont insult current players by mentioning wayne gretzky..the most over rated player ever..sure he 2as great for his time..but this isnt abiut 99.. 2nd..im a long penguin fan.from midway if 66s career..and from my perspective heres my thoughts.. 3.mcdavid is the most electrofying player I've seen since Mario Crosby and Malkin are or were amazing players phenomenal Crosby's work ethic ethic and drive cannot be beaten it can be matched but it can't be beat Crosby speedplay making knowledge all 10/10 Crosby would do some amazing things and sometimes split the fenders or we spin around or do whatever Crosby was tough in front of the net until McDavid Crosby was probably the best player since Mario but he didn't have the wow factor every time he was on the ice McDavid does. Well I shouldn't say that cuz I've not watched many of his games to be honest but from the highlight real I assume that's the case the only ever player ever to have that is Mario Lemieux no I will grant you Mario played the first half his career against some pretty untalented players but in the late 80s 89 or 90 somewhere in there the Europeans came over and doubled the talent pool incidentally that's when Wayne Gretzky's number is started the drop significantly but Mary is didn't they kept getting better and I concede Mario did not play against the goalies of today but I'm sure guys like Patrick Walmart Intruder and dominik Hasek could start somewhere in the league today at their Prime also Mario Lemieux made the best defenders of his time look stupid good Ray Bourque in his prime play in the NHL today I don't know but I do know Lemieux Lemieux abused anyone in his path 4. Oops I left 68 out of that conversation. I'm not saying outright that McDavid is better than those players but he's definitely more Electric and he probably does play defense as well as he scores.. 5 I've been waiting for McDavid for about 20 years first hockey game I watch was the All-Star Game in Pittsburgh Mario Lemieux scored three goals and I was a fan instantly but what I realized over the years as I was a fan of Mario Lemieux and his brilliance the magic that he made every time he was on the ice Mario got one assist in a game and still make and I like real plays. Even with Crosby and Malkin hockey without Mario was kind of dull. And that's with four runs of the Stanley Cup and three successful ones and three of the all-time greats that just couldn't do what Mario did. 6. So I haven't watched aqui in a few years because the NHL is Mario said 1988 is a garage League and it still is it promotes thuggery and nonsense and does not promote its skilled players. The concept of playoff hockey, is a joke the fact that Tom Wilson can still get paid to play hockey is a joke the fact that every time I turn a game on somebody gets ran into the boards from behind that's a joke one thing I didn't I noticed it by McDavid highlights is he wasn't being hooked and grabbed and all that so maybe they've cleaned up on the clutching and grabbing and holding and stuff like that that's good I don't know if the nonsense of playoff hockey still going on where guys get elbowed and cheap-shot adjust for standing ten feet in front of the goal lead where they should be legally allowed to stand. It's a joke that I berated completely clean it on somebody the benches cleared everybody wants to fight that's nonsense get hit clean you get up the good job I'll get you next time.. 7. Yes Mario Lemieux played against inferior talent for half of his career but Mario also had no work ethic didn't work out smoke cigarettes eight donuts and hot dogs did not physically take care of himself because he didn't have to he was just so much better than everyone else when he made his comeback around 2000 he had learned started conditioning and working out and taking care of himself and it showed I mention this because the work ethic in conditioning would have improved his game at his prime if he needed to if he were playing against better players and I say this because I acknowledge that the defensemen and goalies Mario played against were not as good as the guys today but I do believe a Mario a healthy Mario in his prime fully condition and driven we still be the best player in the league today hockey IQ and playmaking transcends any air of hockey Mario's ability to hold onto the puck at 6-foot 4 220lbs and have such finesse in Grace and Agility is overwhelmingly remarkable Mario was the best sniper of his time sure Brett Hall had a couple of big years the Mario at every shot one timers song slap shot Wicked wrist shot and usually put the puck under the crossbar like any good score of today

So another comment concerning my earlier comment about Wayne Gretzky and that he is the most overrated player in history sure he is by far the leading scorer of all time I'm probably will be forever what does that say about that Mark Wayne Gretzky was a great player heads-up opportunistic but played his prime against the absolute worst goalies. Gretzky played is Prime and an era were defenseman and other skaters were consistently following down and goalies would stand upright and kick at the puck. Now Gretzky playmaking and IQ would transcend any are of hockey so that would be the same with his physical tools we're lacking Gretzky's trademark slapshot wild pretty accurate wouldn't do much for him today and a lot of Gretzky's goals the pocket didn't leave the ice could you imagine that today a goal or the puck stays on the ground or the ice no sure they Gretzky's overrated any is still one of the all-time greats she should not be considered hands-down the greatest player ever by far because his statistics are by far better than anyone else's the league as a whole has gone down in scoring every year up until mid-2010 or so I don't know if it's still trending that way but when Gretzky was putting up all that points the league is a whole as an average was born five goals a game... this is a long shot but I do argue the Gretzky was even the best player on his team if I need to tell you that is you don't know much about your Edmonton Oilers we took that team without Gretzky and won their fifth Stanley Cup but again I'm not saying Gretzky was a stiff his playmaking and IQ top-notch I don't know how he scored so many goals with such a blast shot even against terrible goalies is gold tallies are inconceivable with his tool set so yes I feel he is incredibly overrated cuz he's considered the greatest player ever and that's because of some balloon inflated statistics that can never be matched due to the overwhelming Rising talent in the league Gretzky was a man amongst bums from you was a monster amongst men in McDavid has the potential potential even out do the truly greatest player in NHL to date Mario Lemieux

As for Mc?Defense?, the "BEST" players in the world play on a rink that's 200 feet long, and has more than 2 zones. Crosby, Bergeron, Ovechkin (eventually learned), Point & Kutcherov, Kopitar, et al; going back,Yzerman, Francis, Sakic, Datskyuk, et al (which is why THEY have all won Stanley Cups, and McD cries about not being on a 'good team'). Back in the day, The USSR officials called Bob Gainey "The best hockey player in the world"! Because he could score on a cherry-picking breakout? No, because of his play at both ends of the ice. McDavid IS NOT the "best hockey player" in the world, or The NHL, or anywhere. He may be the best offensive player in the game, and that's arguable, but I'll give it to him. He certainly seems to be the best speed skater. But (if I had access) I could put together (EASILY) 100+ video highlights showing McDavid coasting off somewhere in no-man's land, not a player near him, while his team was scored upon. And I wouldn't have to look very hard to get there... If I did his whole career, I don't know how many that number would reach...??? It would be A LOT.

So I just want to make it clear that I am sold on 97 but I just want to put this out there don't say his highlight-reel is better than Mario's unless you've watched Mario's and there is just as much if not more while Factor now you'll say will Mario was playing against less talented defensemen and goalies and I agree but Lemieux played his Prime in a much more barbarically especially barbaric against Mario Lemieux the holding and slashing and hooking and grabbing he had to endure with no penalties called is amazing I hope that McDavid doesn't have to deal with that nonsense but if the rest were on point they would have to call 8 penalties a game❤ against the defense against Mario there's a goal early in Mario's career get some bad defenseman where this guy literally/is Mario 4 x Holton with his right arm then grab them with the left arm then drop with both arms and jumps on his back and Mario's scores a goal like it was a clean break away that goal doesn't make many of his highlight reels the quality is bad but literally I think 7 penalty should have been called on this guy after Lemieux steals the park short-handed and heads up ice to do his thing

McDavid may not have any Cups however; he's the most talented hockey player to play. He'll win a cup at some point it just may not be with the Oilers.
