On a whole spectrum of things which obvious vote winners - they did nothing about Woke, Antifa / BLM / Extinction Rebellion/ Pro-Hamas rioting and destroying public property, didn't do anything about DEI or debanking. They didn't even do anything about scrapping the archaic licence fee. I won't ever trust them with my vote again. Time for a new political party that will do what their voters want.

Dear me. Houchen in denial about why the Tories lost the election. I’ll start with the hopeless campaign, which compared to Labour’s vote efficiency maximisation, was a disaster. I disagree about the campaign making any difference (as disastrous as it was). By the time the campaign started and actually for at least the majority of Sunak's premiership, the public weren't willing to listen to what the tories had to say. They had 2 big NI cuts and neither moved the polls

It doesn't take much common sense to realise that the reason the Conservative party has gone wrong isn't because it isn't right wing enough. Reform switchers wouldn't have made the difference (even given the spoiling effect) and the significant bulk of switchers chose leftward options. It would make more sense to consider incumbency senescence, leading to complacency, arrogance, cupidity and crucially the melting away of an ethos of public service. To govern is a privilege bestowed by the governed not presumed by those who govern. But then I am applying sense...

I rarely agree with Braverman, but I think her comments this morning were broadly correct when she said that the policies were largely irrelevant, it was the failure to deliver on any main policy commitment- immigration - NHS reform - Brexit - law & order - a better economy. Combine that with the sheer arrogance, lies and hypocrisy of Johnson, Cummings, etc.and the economic disaster that was Truss.

The simples who think brexit is a disaster won't admit we've been doing fine outside and saving 20 billion a year in EU membership for so called free trade and tens of billions in bailouts so I'd say quids in even though the Tories did nothing with Brexit.
