I hiked the south side of Cootes Paradise Sanctuary (part of the Royal Botanical Gardens) for this video, and I will also have a video for the north side (Arboretum trails).
I hiked a 6 km loop on hilly trails along the water with lots of lookouts. It is more rugged hiking than the north side and not as busy. Sassafras Point trail is 1 km out and 1 km back, and it's definitely worth the hike for the view. It's also a nice spot for lunch or a snack.
We saw lots of families out with small children hiking on these trails. I wonder if it's because Churchill Park is nearby and has a nice-looking playground as another destination after the hike.
Although the scenery can be a bit monochrome and dull in the winter with no snow or ice, one of the nice things is you can clearly see all the views without leaves on the trees.
