I hiked the south side of Cootes Paradise Sanctuary (part of the Royal Botanical Gardens) for this video, and I will also have a video for the north side (Arboretum trails).
I hiked a 6 km loop on hilly trails along the water with lots of lookouts. It is more rugged hiking than the north side and not as busy. Sassafras Point trail is 1 km out and 1 km back, and it's definitely worth the hike for the view. It's also a nice spot for lunch or a snack.
We saw lots of families out with small children hiking on these trails. I wonder if it's because Churchill Park is nearby and has a nice-looking playground as another destination after the hike.
Although the scenery can be a bit monochrome and dull in the winter with no snow or ice, one of the nice things is you can clearly see all the views without leaves on the trees.

👍12 I love hiking beautiful trails along the Cootes Paradise Marsh! I can see that even swans are happy to float around in the marsh as the weather gets warmer by the day. 😊😊

It's so beautiful there, even though it was the dull post-snow pre-leaves stage. I bet it's just gorgeous at other times of the year too

I loved the big old gnarly tree in the opening. I bet that area would look stunning on a sunny day. Thanks for the tour. 👌👍

I agree - isn't that tree incredible? And I'd like to see these trails on a sunny day with a bit more colour, but the nice thing about this time of year is being able to see through the trees without the leaves. I'll certainly go back when the leaves comes back though

I'm sure you enjoyed every bit of it. I particularly loved the idea of stopping at a rest point during the hike to have coffee! (New visitor to your channel from Botswana, Southern Africa)
