Well, just like your other videos that you have provided, this one is truly exciting. I have a cousin who lives in Delta Junction that also fishes the Copper river He has a friend who owns a fish wheel and he has sent me footage of them fileting and steaking salmon that they've gotten using the wheel. I used to live in Palmer and evidently you live in Wasilla. A close ten mile neighbor to Palmer. I plan on moving up this next spring to Wasilla. I'll be partnering with a ministry based at North Pole to minister to native tribes in AK. Perhaps our paths will cross. Would be great! Thank you for posting this video. Sure makes me home sick for AK. Being here in Arizona, I really long for Alaska. Thanks again for posting this. It's really appreciated. God bless you and yours!

A little hint to get more meat from your salmon. Take a table spoon and scrape off the meat against the back bone. You get a good amount off one fish. and it adds up . It makes the best salmon alfraido to die for. Especially on those kings .You get about 2.5 pounds off them . Cheers from Ontario . Canada.

2020, They shut the river down in August, and our plans were to hit it in the first week of them month. It was a terrible run for chitna reds. I at least got 29 coho out of a week trip, and a quick 3 day weekend turn and burn, on rod and reel, so the fish were just elsewhere I guess. I was bummed, because it was to be my first trip dipnetting, but we have to protect that resource

Where’d you go for your silvers?
@austinholm-mcrae2777
@austinholm-mcrae2777 3 жыл бұрын
I go around Valdez. I'm not much of a fan of the combat fishing. Generally a buddy and I either take a crawdad out and fish just off shore, or we hike out on a point and strand ourselves for the tide. What we call "commando fishing". We have a week long trip, as well as a three day weekend the following weekend at peak silvers. Hit me if you want, and maybe we can meet up? I'm not too keen on posting the dates for anyone, so email me austinholmmcrae@gmail.com
@austinholm-mcrae2777
@austinholm-mcrae2777 3 жыл бұрын
We have some family friendly spots too, if you have older folks or kids. Generally Valdez has the strongest silver run from my own experience. I've tried a charter out of Homer, and shorefished Seward, but neither could beat Valdez

With this much Silt in the water you would think the Male and Female Salmon would have a hard time finding each other to lay eggs and have them fertilized. They must be able to smell each other or other ways they have to get together. How many miles from salt water were you dip netting these salmon, is the quality still real good.?
@wildwoodoffgridalaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaska 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not exactly sure the mileage to the ocean. The river flows down from Chitna to Cordova, but the quality of the fish is amazing, so fresh and delicious. In our opinion, by far the best tasting salmon we’ve ever had! 😊👍🏻

Now down here in southwest Oklahoma not many places to do much fishing that anyone can get much out of. Can't drive right now from a seizure when I was driving which leaves me stuck for doing much getting out. I miss commercial fishing. Been here since 2003 the woman I moved here to be with passed Sep 2009 cancer. The new lady I'm hoping will be I'm hoping she will want to go somewhere new to me and I can get to doing something new. I always wanted to commercial fish when i was young even in Oregon. Ron, it's a great way to harvest a bunch of high quality fish in a short time. Besides, reds don't bite so there's that.

Thanks for watching. The time period that our fishing occurred it was legal to retain one King Salmon per permit. As of the 22nd king salmon was closed for retention. I guess we were lucky we went early.😁

You can only truly be transformed by the renewing of your mind by accepting CHRIST as your salvation and redemption : Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. May you find true enlightenment by finding the CREATOR of it: John 14:6 6 Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me ( Jesus Christ the Only Begotten Son of God. ) Praying you meet personally with GOD thru the SON and HOLY SPIRIT. This meeting will totally change your earthly and eternal life ...... FOR EVER. 🤗💞🙏💞🙏💞🙏✌️👍

Thank you for the compliment and the criticism. I definitely take my time. I know some commercial fishermen that are blindingly fast and I’ll never be there. Have a great day and thanks for watching.

You can make fish soup out of the head and other bones. And you have lots of left over in the bones.

Between tossing the bellies, tossing collars, and not scraping the tartar from the carcass, you sure are wasting ALOT of food. I understand that it's time consuming, but it's just a waste to toss it like that, and as a born and raised Alaskan myself; I was raised to treat what we take with the utmost respect, and to do everything in our power to waste as little as possible. That is just haphazard filleting imo. For needing the resource as a personal shopping market, there sure is a large amount going to waste

I appreciate your point of view. I’ve lived here for over 25 yrs and one thing I’ve learned about salmon fishing is that it’s a use it or loose it resource meaning that they are already in the river and going to die. As long as ADFG is managing the escapement numbers properly, then the resource is going to be sustainable and how I fillet has no bearing on that fact. Look at nature, a bear will catch a salmon and only eat the belly leaving the rest for the other creatures to eat. I use the entire salmon, just not in the way you do. I choose instead to either compost the waste or boil it down and feed my dogs. Either way the resource is being used. Thanks for watching and commenting.

True enough. I'd rather you contribute and take part, regardless of fillet skill. I also understand that dipnetting reds is alot different from using a rod and reel for silvers and Kings. Maybe I'm brainwashed into wasti g too much time on all of my fish. I mean, I even make fish head stock out of the carcasses and the heads, which is great in any Salmon chowder or bisque. Salmon dominates any flavor, so sadly it needs to just be salmon though. I really stretch what I can get out of my fish

I've also never been dipnetting, so the most fish I've ever had to fillet in one sitting must be around 20 max, silvers as they are what I primarily fish, so I have no idea what it's like to process all of those reds. I process all of my own fish, and I have heard that you can get an absolutely ridiculous amount of reds in just a short while dipnetting, so I'm sort of ignorant when it comes to that. I am just watching your video again, getting pumped for this fishing season!!!!
