Most of woodworking is either experimental or non-functional. This project will be no exception.

Thats funny, I came to the comments to say the exact same thing, and it seems there are a number of us who made this graph for fun :D

To really mess with peoples eyes you could steadily make the nails lower/higher levels along it so it creates a greater depth effect

This project really highlights why I covet your tulipwood accessibility! Excellent gift idea, too. Not only am I trying to find tulipwood sources but now I am looking all over for copper wire of various gauges. Great video!

I love this idea, I used to doodle these patterns all the time. And that piece of wood is stunning, I can see why you save those pieces for special pieces.

Thank you. I do think that a black background with red wire would look interesting. The one featured in the video is far less apparent; when someone has never seen it before, they have to pause to consider it, and let it soak in- I like that.

Came out nice. I wonder if it could also be done without nails but with holes through the wood.

How many astroid plaques does it take to get nasty comments on KZfaq? Apparently just one. EDIT: I personally don't like it, but whatever. Nothing is ever objectively bad or 'ugly as fuck' as @ least one person has commented here. I wish the vast majority of people Online weren't belligerent fools.

I liked this so much.... awesome job... but i believe it will look much better if the background were to be uniform color and the wires to be a bit darker .... that will make a lively contrast

Would be cool to see this again with perhaps finishing nails (so the nail heads aren't as visible), as well as varying the height of the nails (eg. they stick out of the wood more, moving towards the center).

I'm wondering where you learned all the little ins and outs that simplify the various tasks. Like the use of the compass to find the perpendicular.
@isaacvangerpen41387 жыл бұрын
That's just geometric construction with compass and straightedge.

I'm going to make this (I made one ls.with string when I was a kid), but sew it with copper wire and take it off the nails

I would make this on a steel plaque and solder the wire to the nails, or use copper rivets :D

@whomstareyou80137 жыл бұрын

"Each pass that I make goes around 4 nails, so the length of my pieces are always gonna be the same." Not so. The rhombus that goes around the 5th nail from the center has side lengths of 6.4 nail units, while the one that goes around the 8th nail has side lengths of 8.1 units.
@pocket83squared6 жыл бұрын
I like your style. But that's ultimately irrelevant. If I remember correctly, I used that claim as a crude approximation to cut the length of my wire. If the project had used expensive materials, I would've done the math. As it happens, this wire was 2.99 per roll. Remember context, and let me slide on this one. If I were to make this video today, I would never have said that.
@yourcurtainsareugly6 жыл бұрын
My point wasn't to criticize your ability to approximate when cutting a length of wire, which I had considered in writing my comment. Rather, I don't want any future viewers to mistakenly assume that this approximation works for all situations. I totally get that it was an off the cuff comment and that a difference of about a fifth shouldn't matter too much when you're trimming the end anyhow. That said, mass publications being what they are, leaving things open to interpretation to a public which may not truly grok the Pythagorean Theorem can lead, to say the least, to poor outcomes. It's a minor issue on an old video, for sure, but I couldn't find a similar comment so I decided to leave this in case anyone was curious.
