I've been trying to upload this video for 3 days... geeesh! I think I finally made it.
Let's start out by simmering a pot of Pumpkin/ Apple soup.. and while that cooks, I will show you how to make both a simple and a complex Cornhusk Doll. This American craft started with the native Americans who passed it onto the Colonists. Our Pioneering ancestors wasted little from their crops, using cornhusks for mattress stuffing, kindling and (most fun), Cornshuck Dollies
Timestamps
0:00 Pumpkin, Green Apple Soup
1:34 Roasted Pumpkin Seed
2:54 Simple Cornhusk Doll

Teatime
Recipe for Pumpkin/ Apple Soup

2 cups chipped green apple
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 cup cream
4 cups broth
1 tbsp flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp each nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger
2 Tbsp Butter
optional/ add a mashed Sweet potato to thicken
salt and pepper

Thank You for the memories. It's been so long ago, but tonight I remembered teaching this in Sunday School around Thanksgiving & our town Library to a room full of children. They loved it!!!! I recognized the pages you showed of directions & like you, I probably still have them. As our daughters are 40 & 46 now, it has been a long time ago!!! But such a HAPPY Time. I'm still a sentimental soul & so glad I have come across you on U-tube. May God Bless You & Yours, Sharol Aid Cleveland, Texas

That's a nice memory with the children. I kept the directions because I wrote the article, but I'm missing the page showing the large quilting bee. When I saw the date of 1988, I realized how much time had passed.

Jeri, your dolls should be in the Corn Husk Doll Hall of Fame. They are exquisite! I really love the one with the quilt. It brought back a memory to me of my mom telling me about them and helping me make some when I was little. Mine was pretty rustic, but I loved making something from corn husks. Great video! Good things come to those who wait.

I started making cornhusk dolls for a Girl Scouts project, we harvested our own corn husks from a farmer’s field, soaked corn husks in glycerin and water and made simple dolls! I became fascinated with them and went on to make signed dolls in vignettes, making baskets and flowers from corn husks. Also Christmas trees of corn husk, with candles made with dipped thread. It was quite a business for a country wife! I love your painted faces and delightful ladies! Blessed and safe days!

How did I miss this last month??? This brought back so many memories of time with my children making corn husk dolls when they were young. My youngest is now in her 40's so that's been quite a while ago - actually before your pattern was published. I wish it had been available earlier. You remember how hard it was to learn crafts like this before the advent of the computer. As for corn cob uses. I have actually seen them used as chinking in a log cabin!

It's amazing to see the uses for such seemingly mundane "throwaways" like the corn cobs. I agree, Nowadays, if you wish to learn any craft, it's easily researched online.

Hi and Thank you for such beautiful chanel! I watch you almost everynight, since some time, it brings me peace and it's my kind of world, the one you create with so much love and knowledge/wisdom. I watch you from Portugal! Here in the south of Europe, side by side with Spain! In fact, for me, it's just a location in the world, it doesn't matter but you'll know where it is, now. Here there's a lot of hand made stuff like that, it' s a very old country (1143), there's a lot of things that some people still do the same way, you'll be surprised. Love and Gratitude for your work

The first doll reminds me of the corn husk dolls I made with my grandmother when I was a child, she was very creative. I have a little clutch she made as a child herself using some sort of dried grasses dyed different colors and stitched in a all over pattern with a flower in the design on the corner flap. It's amazing it's still in great condition considering it's 100 years old. Corn cob pipes too, I recall seeing those as a child. So enjoyed this, thanks for sharing. I think I could do a better job of it now after seeing this. Wishing you a very happy Thanksgiving.

That's such a nice memory of your gramma and the keepsake clutch is a treasure. I forgot to mention the corncob pipes!
