Remember seeing this show in late 60s, here in Canada. My mom would be watching it when I came home from kindergarten. That theme music always stuck in my head over the years though I never watched show until beginning of pandemic 4 plus years ago. Now it’s one of few shows I watch religiously every day.

I was 12 when the series started. We're all very used to regional accents on TV now but, in 1960, it was unheard of. There would be an occasional cockney or Scot... Welsh at a pinch but never by actors who were native to the regions they were portraying. No one with a natural regional accent could work in TV back then so 'Corrie' was a huge revolutionary step. The only TV & radio personality prior to that who could get away with a northern accent was Wilfred Pickles. The 'drama' was never particularly dramatic back then but audiences liked the characters and the nitty-gritty.

Tanx, tanx, tanx to the generous individual who made these Coronation Street episodes available; grew up with them and then left the nest and lost the connection. If it is possible, please keep them coming to bring me up to date with England's greatest soap opera in television history. Tanx! -- Tanx! -- Tanx! -- Tanx! -- Tanx!

Before my time... ( I was born Sunday 22nd of January 1961) but a few days ago, just out of curiosity, I found myself watching the very first 3 episodes... now I'm sort of.. getting addicted to these early episodes. It brings back memories of when I was a young lad. My late mum loved watching every episode :) coming from a big family of 5 brothers n 2 sisters we had to be quiet when Coronation Street started :) I always remember a particular time when we were being a little too loud for my mum to hear what was being said, imagine " Shhh!.. quiet!"...us kids trying to be quiet!!.. mum.. "oh I missed what they said now".. :) . I guess I'm just sharing my childhood memories of my mum :). Gonna keep watching these early episodes before and beyond I was born./ My favourite characters were Hilda and hubby Stan :)

Thank you for that lovely trip down your memory lane , did you know that the original setting of Coronation St was Bessy St and if you research Harold Riley artist, you will probably find his sketch of Bessy St , maybe be still available online , I got one from Salford Uni in 2012 (Grad Gift) Harold Riley was a friend of L S Lowry. Happy viewing & best Wishes from the West of Ireland.

@@Thefan Surely indeed with this Notalgic season! Love the sense how older morals and values were very devoting and caring for their own loved ones. No matter; where the individual came from, what race or background they'd belong to. Britain's nation gave it's heart equal to everyone! Nowaday's, all this Gold from the heart kept fading away through new generations and left with selfishness! The new Corronation Street seasons today are nothing like the old ones...

Wasn’t allowed to watch these early years as I was 7 and under “under age”. The theme tune coming on meant “time for bed too”. It’s interesting to see what I missed - it is so like our own lives then in Boro. I had an Auntie who was just like Ena but we simply called her “Auntie Demon”; with affection of course. We also had to turn the tele off after an hour or so to “let it cool down” 😂

Very well done considering that it was live television. You can see a few stumbles with the lines, but all were quickly covered up. I particularly liked the moving of the mirror. When the camera angle changed the mirror was reflecting the bright lights. Somehow the actress was notified about this and she nonchalantly changed the mirror's angle to stop the reflection. Watch as her hand casually turns the mirror while looking the other way.

Great memories. Must have been made on a shoestring with not much time for editing - like when the huge microphone came down in the snug bar and stayed there for ten seconds before they raised it out of sight again. Also,it was fashionable to smoke in those days as most of the cast did in the show, though most of them probably didn't in real life, as they rarely inhale and just puff the smoke out.

Since Im just dipping in and out of these episodes, I can afford to pick and choose who I watch. I ignore the Barlows and the Hewitts, always the most boring and stereotypical of Tony Warren's creations, (no wonder Noel Dyson got out early), and get to the Tanner's really charming Mother and Son situation. Not even a young Dennis (Philip) fluffing his lines could ruin this scene, Elsie (Pat) was brilliant at carrying him through, I think she adapted her own line on live tv to make some sense out of his mistake. Bravo. And the warmth between the characters eventually shone right through. Then Ena in hospital spitting out diatribes to all within earshot. When she was describing the 3 doctors, one of whom in gross non-politically correct terms, I suddenly confused her face with Les Dawson. The script here was wonderful, but realise I will be going to the Woke version of Hell for laughing so loud. Thank you for these...........
