1984 was probably one of the worst years in the shows history. 1985 was more on an even keel. I guess nothing lasts forever and ill health meant some actors had to leave, and they died soon after sadly. We still had greats like Bet, Hilda, Betty, Rita, Mavis, Derek, Alf etc.

I think it was due to the Doris Speed (Annie Walker) having a breakdown in real life. I read somewhere that a tabloid upset her with a story saying she was 15 years older than claimed and at the same time her home was burgled whilst she slept upstairs. Together the two incidents affected her health and she later went to a nursing home. Really sad as Doris Speed was fantastic and entertained us all as wonderful Annie Walker.

Its funny but the characters i liked way back when these were origionally produced, i find when viewing them now, i see them in a totally different light ! And, vise versa, the characters i disliked then, i like now! Apart from fred gee who i couldn't stand then & more so now! Like Ivy, i find her a feisty lady Who puts on a veneer but shes really vunerable & a little afraid Underneath her armour But in 1984 i couldnt stand Ivy Used to think Mavis was an eccentric oddball & worried too much but now i see her as a manipulator, a spoiled stupid woman full of bitterness & spite Wittering for attention ALWAYS LOVED ELSIE Who could fault that woman! In her last scenes in Dec 83 i thought she looked fabulous & Yet she was riddled with cancer With not long to live Yet to the end she was a sensation! Never liked Eddie but this time i see him as a real treasure & adorable Ken was a boring twerp in 84 & is boring in 2023. Stan & Hilda are superstars! The glue that held Corrie together along with our Elsie Didnt like Jack & Vera but see how brilliant they appear to me now, a perfect comic pair Emily then was an Earth Angel Now? Ooh a snake in the grass Mike was always a favourite Both times. Why does Ida Clough wear such Very PECULIAR hairstyles? Honestly some styles look as if shes auditioning for The Brides of Dracula! Lol Love Reet now, her acerbic wit & Dark humour slay me! She & Else were 2 beautiful older women, i adore how she teases Old Mave, yet i did not appreciate her back then. Maybe its because im old now & can really understand certain Characters that have hidden dimentions & its a pleasant surprise! Sad to see Eddie & Marian go, i wish they had stayed! WOW their nipper would be over 40yrs old now! Cried with Reet when she heard about Len, lovely Len, her acting was amazing Cried with Ivy for Bert Quick mention to say Liked Alf then... not now Disliked Audrey then, not now! Loved Deirdre then & now Disliked Bry-yunnn then & now Gail was cute & silly & had lush hair in the early shows but turned into quite a warrior maiden & is very determined to build her future around her family & her budding relationship with Ivy is so interesting to watch The backroom girls..Bett &Betty Are my favourites Bett Lynch is an extraordinary & complex character made that way by the fabulous Julie Goodyear! I think she was very underated & deserved much more recognition Than she got! There are times when shes a study in rather beautiful features in perfect alignment! Anyway ive rambled on too long but having watched naught but these episodes almost non stop for the last 3 weeks, in a condensed way, the characters have leaped from 2D to 3D & their interactions with each other, Each family home playing its own Vignette, taking turns in the storyline month by month Presents a tremendous study in Human behaviour from the 1960s 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s ( although i stopped watching it very early 2000) I predict ( if its not already been done ) that Corrie will be studied in high schools, colleges & universities as encapsulating the Human behaviour of the British public in their communities Through the decades & its such a rich area to cover, discover & Study for young people of our future. Brilliant watching for Psychology & sociology students Many thanks to Professional Gun 66, for your saving & gathering all these episodes as they will prove to be invaluable for future Brits to learn from & marvel at! Ive saved all the episodes on a special file & im thrilled with them 🇬🇧👧

Stan was both shiftless and fascinating. He had no ambition and no long term thinking. And was a former desert rat.

He did, there’s been lots of actors that got their start in Corrie Tosh was working at the dump then fast forward a few years and he was the manager of graffiti club. The big boss originally in the bill was an abusive step father in one ep. I’m trying to think of them all but bad memory
