This video is a work-in-progress series. It took me more than 4 hours to sculpt the head and that is with 13 years of practice. It will take most of you far longer then 4 hours to do the same but this is not a tutorial as much as it is a sharing of knowledge. I trimmed the video down to 2 hours. I left the initial build-up phase in real-time because it is an important skill to learn to do as you move toward getting a realistic likeness of any character and that is something I think I can teach you in a short amount of time. I fast-forwarded through most of the fine detail work which took me 3 plus hours and that is not something I can teach in a short video, but I can give you tips on how to proceed with your own practice time because that is a huge part of perfecting how to add the fine details. But I did show the whole process overall just not in real-time. I will be making other videos this year doing several other character head sculpts and I will focus more on the finishing work in sections but I did go over a few things that will help as you progress. If you have questions you can leave them in the comments here or come find me on this channel's FB page. This is a WIP series but also a tutorial. / ooak-art-with-lindae-o...

Just started watching you today. I like how you explain things. I’ve been dabbing in clay for twenty years and have spent more time building the craft room and gathering tools then I have making anything worth while. As soon as it starts looking like an alien I quit. I did make a 12 inch Dobby couple years ago for my adult granddaughter but when I seen it again last week, it looked more like a monkey. Lol. My brain tells me I can do it but my hands don’t feel the same way. Pretty sure I’m my own worst critic. But thank you for the tutorials. Your work is fantastic.

Thank you, Carolyn! I am very glad you like the videos. It is good when you get to see your older work in person after many years because it lets you see how much progress you make via practice. Practice is the key to improving and trying new techniques also helps you to develop your skills. I absolutely love sculpting especially with polymer clay. I have a number of new tutorial videos waiting for me to edit them. Time always seems to be a roadblock but they are at least recorded. I have a Facebook page for this group. I would be happy to help if you ever have questions. You can also share your progress there if you like. I love seeing people's work. Thank you, so much. I am very happy to hear you like them. I am still learning how to make them and I know some of the early ones were not so good but I left them so that the tips I gave in them, wandering camera issues or not, would still be available to help people. it makes me very happy to hear you liked them.

I am so thankful for this video. You have given great tips and techniques. I only suggest you move your highlight camera more to the right about 4 inches. Where you keep your tools and the alcohol bottle is more centered in the camera. Thanks again you are a wonderful and sharing Artist.

Thank you, Gwen. The way I have the camera set up, it is almost under my chin but right on the edge of the table. I am looking for a camera mount that can be on a gooseneck and on its own stand so it can come over my shoulder and then it can be even closer and see exactly what I am seeing. But they are pricey, so for now, this is the best I could come up with. I hope you were able to get some useful information anyway. Video 2 is just the close-up camera.

Hi, in this video I am seeing a device, a white box? It has letters placed in it. Can you tell me what it is? I have one but I don't know what it's for.

Thank you, Heather. I bake in my kitchen gas oven at 275. I have a halogen convection oven that I use also for small pieces so I don't have to heat the whole house with the big oven. If you bake polymer in a small oven, run a test on it with a mechanical oven thermometer so you can how much it fluctuates in temp. If it is going up to say 300 degrees during the heating cycle to active the 275 It is likely to turn the clay and that is when polymer clay becomes toxic when it burns. i use my oven for food also but not at the same time. I have never burned anything in my kitchen oven. But I have in the little ones. Hope that helps.
