Review and definitions of the conventional grain fed, grass fed and organic ground beef at Costco
Definitions:
Grass Fed -
"Grass (Forage) Fed" means that grass and forage shall be the feed source consumed for the lifetime of the ruminant animal, with the exception of milk consumed prior to weaning. The diet shall be derived solely from forage consisting of grass (annual and perennial), forbs (e.g., legumes, Brassica), browse, or cereal grain crops in the vegetative (pre-grain) state. Animals cannot be fed grain or grain byproducts and must have continuous access to pasture during the growing season.

This was super informative (I have never heard of the pellet that can be planted behind the cows ear for conventionally raised😳) You broke it down so simply, in easy to understand language, making the choice for the consumer watching this to decide easier! Your vlogs have had an impact on food choices I make weekly for my family. I feel more empowered at the grocery store and my confidence has increased (no more “influencer” mom shaming!!) Can’t wait for Costco to drop the April sales and watch your video on what’s going to be the best bets for our budget and health (fingers crossed you make one)❤

Thank you soooo much for this very sweet comment, this is what keeps me making videos. I love that you find value in my content, that is wonderful!!! I too am looking forward to a new sale from Costco and will definitely be doing a video. I agree whole heartedly about the (mom shaming from "influencers") as if being a parent isn't hard enough! The simple concept of positive reinforcement is associated with the work of the great behaviorist psychologist B. F. Skinner.I truly feel we all need positive encouragement/reinforcement. Life already has challenges, trust me I learned a few. The fear mongering is sad but people are attracted to it like a bad accident. 🥴 Thank you again...you brightened my day!🥰 Be well!!! D

Great video as always! I’m not a fan of the frozen patties, they don’t taste as good to me. We do buy the organic ground beef and we can tell the difference. It tastes better. Thank you.😊👍🏽

@@healthylivingritehi Darren! Do you mix your ground beef with pork or lamb to make meatloaf?

I actually use Venison, my father is an avid hunter so I have a wonderful supply from him. Venison tends to be very lean so I add 80/20 GF beef to the mix. I do use pork, beef and veal when making meatballs or a ragu that I learned during a cooking course while in Florence, Italy. That's the only time I'll ever use veal.

Thoughts on the ground bison next to the refrigerated ground beef? Better protein to fat ratio, macros better for calorie deficit! Pretty delicious too...

I love Bison, they are excellent when watching calories and much leaner. in my opinion all ruminant animals are phenominal options for perfectly balanced complete proteins. I eat mainly venison for that reason. Great choice my friend!

Do you thaw the grass fed patty’s before grilling or do you grill them frozen? I find when grilling them they can dry out very quickly. Any tips or suggestions?
@healthylivingrite
@healthylivingrite 2 ай бұрын
I defrost them, only takes about an hour. The 80/20 stays pretty juicy but I agree you definitely need to keep an eye on them. They cook very fast. Someone suggested using the air fryer, I'm going to try that next.

The packaging suggests to cook when frozen. I’ve cooked them both frozen & thawed and haven’t noticed a difference either way. You do need to keep an eye on them though…perhaps take them off sooner. They still cook through and mine turn out juicy. I also coat them with avocado oil prior to putting them on the grill. Hope that helps…enjoy 👍🏼

In order to differentiate what is truly grass fed beef from this less authentic product, consumers interested in truly grass fed beef should look for beef labeled 100% grass fed, as this indicates that these animals were raised on grass for their entire life after they were weaned from their mother. (From USDA website)

The GF beef has a unique, gamey flavor. Almost like Venison which I love when ground. I do prefer Organic Grain Fed when buying Filet or other cuts. Corn feed leads to higher-levels of marbling and imbues beef with a slightly sweeter taste. Definitely comes down to preference, both are great options! Thanks for the feedback and watching!

Do you know why the highest quality beef always has trans fats?
@healthylivingrite
@healthylivingrite 2 ай бұрын
There are 2 predominant sources of dietary trans fatty acids (TFA) in the food supply, those formed during the industrial partial hydrogenation of vegetable oils (iTFA) and those formed by biohydrogenation in ruminants (rTFA), including vaccenic acid (VA) and the naturally occurring isomer of conjugated linoleic acid, cis-9, trans-11 CLA (c9,t11-CLA). Ruminant TFA (rTFA) are naturally occurring fatty acids that are synthesized via bacterial metabolism of unsaturated fatty acids in ruminant animals and found in ruminant-derived foods (i.e. beef, lamb, and dairy). Results from epidemiological studies generally have shown an inverse or no association between rTFA intake and coronary heart disease. (CHD). Sorry for the long winded explanation...
