On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

The F-35 DAS can achieve lock on at any angle, above, below, behind, wherever, it can see and lock on, that's not even counting the fact its electronic warfare suite would blind the Felon and render it defenseless before they ever even merge.

For most of the video it looked like Felon was simply playing with you :D Last kill was nice though. So technically there is always a chance, but it requires to bet everything on one very risky maneuver, and if you mess up you're done. F-22 would kinda devalue Mavericks amazing, otherwordly piloting skills, so it would be then more about the plane than the pilot.

I have never played DCS, but I wanted to know when you are shot down do you have to go back to base and go through the start-up process on the plane and take off, or is there a by-pass or "continue" option that respawns you in the air with your armament so you can pick up where you left off?

If you want to do the Top Gun intercept you should do a 4vX situation with the 4 Hornets on the deck and however many Su-57s you want diving in. Definitely feel like this channel is missing wingman coordination stuff which would do a lot to liven up content.

In DCS, the Felon is a formidable adversary, apparently on the level of the F-22. But in reality, it seems that the Felon isn't all that respected as a fighter jet. Or am I missing something?

It’s mostly due to the fact that there aren’t that many of them, and antagonism against just about anything Russian at the moment. In reality the Felon likely already has combat air-to-air kills (against planes mind you, not balloons).

Pretty much all missiles do, the aim 9x can pull about 60 Gs, it's just about nose positioning relative between the aircraft

Mav would have had hundreds of thousands of hours in a fighter jet and possibly tens of thousands of hours in combat/training situations. The SU pilot likely had simulator time, BVR training and little dog fighting time. I think you should retry this with a good newer competitor.

Well top gun 2 if it had an f22 would mean that they would've had to take off from an airforce base. As well as not land on the aircraft carrier. And I think top gun is a naval aviation school. So no f22

You can land an F-22 on an aircraft carrier. I mean, you can only do it once, and you won't be able to fly it again, but it can still be done

Probably the dumbest question on the topic of air combat/dog fighting, but why can't they mount something like a mini-CWIS on a plane to allow you more angles (i.e. opportunities) to shoot a target? On every fighter aircraft you have to be facing the target (or nearly facing) to use your guns/missiles. I would think that even with limited movement you could probably get a turret that gives at least 180 degrees versus nose/wing mounted that only give maybe 0-10 degrees of coverage?

Helicopters like the Apache do that. The gun tracks where the pilot is looking. Problem is, jets move much faster and *need* to move much faster because of the way missiles work (a fast fighter gives its missiles more range and the pilot better a better chance to survive any missiles launched at them). A big gimbal or turret setup on a fighter would completely screw up its aerodynamics and its handling. Since most real combat happens with missiles and not guns, the trade offs just aren't worth it.

@@winterscrescendo Agreed. I just always thought it was funny watching these dogfight sims that 90% of the time is the two planes trying to get into position. I mean in the one where it was the F-18 v the Su-57, it just seemed like there was a so many times where if you had such a system, the pilot could have made the kill shot. Even after all these years, dogfighting in planes hasn't really changed at all.

Well, taking the Su-57 on BVR might help. As those exposed Philips head screws all over the Su-57 in every close up photo you can find on the net are 'SUPER' stealthy.
