I just bought the pack Axe. I Give My Word it is Badass!! I have owned Gransfors, Im telling You this Axe and The sheath are Top Notch!! I'd buy this over a Gransfors again. Quality is Amazing. And Made in The U.S.A!! Nuff said..

I almost always find myself grabbing my pack axe over my Gransfors every time I go out!

Hi guys. No mention of the considerable difference in square area of the cheeks of each axe? There is significantly more handle inside the head of the craft pack-axe. A very important advantage when it comes to keeping the handle fit intact. Thank you for the post. Great close-ups of both axes. 😊

I like my 19" Wood Craft pack axe for canoe and car camping. It splits small logs well.

I have the shorter Camp version with the18" overall handle length (15 1/4" from below the head).I like it for canoe and car camping. Just the right length. It is an excellent splitter and with its features like "anti-stick" reliefs and tempered poll. Much appreciated. In fact I prefer this to a similar Gransfors Bruks line of camp axes and think it is the same quality level. Eric B.

I agree King's Outdoors, my 19" handle C. T. Wood Craft axe is world class. Now I have to make a leather handle protector.

That is the Council Tools Velvicut Saddle Axe. They also have it in the Sport Utility version these days.

Just for the better handle I would choose the velvicut. The other options are nice, though.

Irony...The Woodcraft (misspelled, on the Council Tool site, it's "Wood Craft Axe" --two words) is what Council Tool refers to as their bushcraft axe. You'd think they'd call it a Bushcraft (or Bush Craft) axe. The Hudson Bay is a Spanish design imported to America by European Trappers centuries ago that actually is the original "woodcraft" axe. I hope that Council Tool gets it's right someday. I own a Hudson Bay Velvicut. It's the one I use the most and I have a dozen axes including a custom $300 rig.

Woodcraft is actually the correct term for north america, bushcraft is a term that came from africa & australia, historically in america the term was woodcraft, so Dave Canterbury got together with council tools & came up with the name for this axe to try to bring back that old tradition & get people to start calling it by it's correct term again.

@@mitchellgardner2193 This axe was out before Canterbury got involved with them. Learn your facts. Canterbury just shills for them.

in USA its woodcraft. Bushcraft is a term that stems from Africa, Australia and parts of Canada. easiest way is to put it is woodcraft are the skills/trade of the woodsman and bushcraft are the skills/trade of the bushman. i think its mostly Canadian youtubers fault, they have a lot more land where bushcraft is the correct term that then went on to also mean woodcraft and is more commonly used instead. also hudson bay is less than half the price of the woodcraft unless its the velvicut version and then its about the same.

The Hudson Bay will process hardwood better due to the convex grind. The Scandi grind is OK for softwood/conifers.

To each their own, I guess. We have heated with wood for many years and I have made wood for over 60 years now in Upper Michigan. I never saw a Scandi grind axe in all those years. We used double bit axes for limbing; both were convex ground. Typically, one blade was sharpened to a finely honed, narrow "felling edge," while the second blade was ground slightly blunter, and used for knots, cutting near the ground, or in other instances where a finely sharpened blade was more likely to be damaged. At least that's the way the Finlanders in da U.P. grind their axes.

Scandi is easier to sharpen in the field
@Chiefs500

True enough but I will stick with the convex grind. I have never seen a U.P. logger using a Scandi grind axe, even though processors do most of the work today and axes are pretty much a thing of the past.

Funny the axe I use is a fair bit thinner than that and cutting seasoned dead oak you need something that really bites.
@Sgtassburgler

Strong disagree, you just can't handle sticking. Convex grinds are terrible for penetration.

Good video, but hardening on the back end (heel) without the rest of the axe head doesn't matter, it can easily hurt one of your closest friends, your axe....... that being said hardening the full head can kill an axe...... it's a difficult decision. He has it right though!!!!!!!! YOU need to choose the right axe for you, you're wants, and your needs!!!!!!!!!

I have a Norlund TRAILBLAZER double bit axe. It is not in the original packaging.. not in mint condition.. but it has the original handle (a tad loose.. Very slight), head has not been abused (is rusted over but appears to have factory edge- never sharpened), and it even has some large remnants of the orange tape. We bought it at a garage sale for $5. I'm guessing it's worth $200? I don't know if I should clean it up and use it or just hang it on the wall? Does anyone know what this axe is really worth? 🪓
