My brother and I used to listen to this song together and talk about life, my bro died but ill always remember the times we had, he was an angel in my eyes. The point is that you need to remember that life is precious and it’s a given. Don’t forget who you are, love yourself because there is only one you,. Yu are special and unique….. embrace that

When my daughter was in her early teens, we would listen to the cassette tape "August And Everything After" whenever we were driving somewhere in the car. We must have listened to it a thousand times. It became our record and we knew every word to every song. Those memories are some of the sweetest memories I'll ever know. My daughter was young & innocent and an all-around perfect child. I rarely speak with my daughter anymore as her addictions have taken over her life & turned her into someone I no longer know. I long for those simple times when we drove all over town and sang along to Counting Crows. To my Vanessa: I miss you, I guess that I should Three thousand five hundred miles away But what would you change if you could? I need a phone call I need a raincoat I need a big love I need a phone call Love you, Daddy Edit on 6-30-23: My daughter passed away yesterday from an OD. My wife & I are heartbroken. But my baby girl is finally at peace now. Thanks to all who replied to this post. I appreciate all of your kind words. Much love to you all.

I wish I could take your pain away. I’m sorry. I recently blocked and deleted my daughter too. I wish I could say it was drugs or alcohol that took her from me. I did my best to raise her the best I knew how. She’s just angry, lost and directs her anger over her choices and her failures at me. She’s abusive, mean, hateful and I can no longer subject myself to being her punching bag. I’ve lost hope that she will ever hold herself accountable and get some help.

My oldest sister and I have not spoken in over 10 years for the same reasons you both experienced with your loved ones. I wish you both peace and happiness. My sister was born in 1980 so she was definitely a 90's kid, i was born in '88. The 90's seemed to be the demise to so many teenagers lives, its crazy looking back on it now. God bless you both.

Im in recovery now but for many years i was strung out and i was just a complete mess. Ill tell you all (this is my storie) if my mother or anyone in my family gave up on me i would not be where i am now. She would always awnser my calls. She would come see me, and grab ne a bite to eat Sometimes us addicts do hear what you are saying. And one day one thing clicks and you then get a little hope to get clean. My husband had left for work as soon as he shut the door i called my dad to come get m e and bring me to a fruends. I packed a duffel bag so fast , i dont think i had a matching pair of socks. When my dad dropped me off thats when my journey began. I was so broken. To embarrassed to xall anyone for help god sent an angel she pulled over as im cryin on the side walk. And ofdered me a ride. I went srraight to detox. My mother said 2 things that turned my life around 1. I wish we or you and your friends could go to the mall. Shop and get a bite to eat. But u cant . 2 I knew from a very young age that you were gonna be my strong child. Good job. Family you were such a strong kid. You could gave been anything you wanted. Those 2 things made me think about my life before drugs. And I really liked that g I rl ill. I went into a program sober house than my own place. Ans my life turned around . I cant tell you how many detoxes they brought me to. I would rest up eat. Then right j back to using.. the thing is i didnt gice up i kept tryin. All m u intentions were good but like i said i would always leave. I met wonab at the beginning oc my joyr ey. That gave me reason. To stay another day. Adds to weeks months and tears. Please talk to your kids. Let know you love them and eant the sober child back. Dont give up on your kids. Trusr me they cry for you every single day #SOBERSBETTER!!

I'm sorry for your loss. I pray everyday, despite what anyone thinks, and I beg that God can hear me and that there is a here after. I pray that the sweet stories about a heaven are real, and that we find our peace, and all of our losses repented to us. I pray this prayer for myself, friends, family, and people like you. I don't know your beliefs and I don't want to change them, but I truly hope and pray that you will see her again, and feel her embrace you. Death is my least favorite part of life, but it is a requirement and proof that nothing in this earth is fair. If there's something after this, and she able to see you now, I'm sure she's hoping you find solace, and will be waiting patiently for you.

For me, this is by far the best and most important song from the 90s. I was in my 40s when it came out, I'm 75 now and it still brings up such powerful emotions in me. Regardless of what's happening in the video, I have my own visions that go with the lyrics and Adam's voice, and they're basically the same now as back then.

Young, full of life, full of passion and great music everywhere. My kids lack that in their lives, if it wasnt for their musician dad cramming the 90s down their ears. 😆😆😆

I wasn't a huge fan of this song when it was popular. Guess I always seemed to go in the opposite direction of everyone else when I was young. Now I'm older, a bit wiser (I think) I have stage 4 cancer that has spread into my bones. Bone cancer is really a challenge. I don't look for pity just understanding. I still look the same, but inside I'm dyin' I don't know why. This song has been in my head SO much lately, I played it through my Bluetooth Harmon Kardon LOUD, it brought me to my knees in tears. I've missed and miss so much in life and I just want to go back to the time when this song was red hot and I didn't know what cancer was and how it eats your body on the inside. Its a bitch, but as Momma always said "Someone has it worse than you I often think of those people and pray for their pain and problems. Sorry to write a book, I just wanted to vent and tell everyone to try to love each other. Even if they don't want to be loved. Sometimes those people need love the most. I love you all!

Heard this on the radio in 94 when it released, and it blew my mind. I didn't know the name of the band, and I had the radio on day and night trying to see if I could record it. Sometime later, my sister who used to work in a pawn shop gave me their cd (I didn't know it was them at the time), and I popped it in. it's the first song on the track, BUT the first few seconds are super quiet, so I always skipped the first track. You feel like a ghost stepping out because sometimes it’s as if you don’t exist (because you aren’t part of the equation.) You can see inside so many people yet with the institutionalized it’s like there is so many misfiring synapses that you can’t quite figure it out. So you finally scream out, “I can’t see nothin, round here!) I knows the songs primarily about a woman named Maria but I can’t help but think that the guy in the desert (video) is getting completely overlooked. I was sitting in a tiny hotel room in NYC on Peck Slip in the 1990s when I first heard this song. Alone and fearful. I was in Grad school then evaluating what just the hell I was doing there...Now, all these year later, I am actually close to understanding Jesus and His Word, and I'm comforted...and it's not only in my head.

Lyrics Step out the front door like a ghost Into the fog where no one notices the Contrast of white on white. And in between the moon and you the angels Get a better view of the crumbling Difference between wrong and right. I walk in the air, between the rain, Through myself and back again where? I Don't know Maria says she's dying, through the door I hear her crying why? I don't know Round here we always stand up straight Round here something radiates Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand She said she'd like to Meet a boy who looks like Elvis. She walks along the edge of where the ocean meets The land just like she's Walking on a wire in the circus. She parks her car outside of my house And takes her clothes off, says she's Close to understanding Jesus. She knows she's more than just a little misunderstood, She has trouble acting Normal when she's nervous. Round here we're carving out our names Round here we all look the same Round here we talk just like lions, but we sacrifice like lambs Round here she's slipping through my hands Oh sleeping children better run like the wind, Out of the lightning dream Mama's little baby better get herself in out of the lightning She says "it's only in my head." She says "shh, I know it's only in my head." But the girl on the car in the parking lot says "man, you should try to take a Shot. can't you see my walls are crumblin'" Then she looks up at the building And says she's thinkin' of jumping. she says She's tired of life, she must be tired of something. Round here she's always on my mind Round here (hey man)i got lots of time Round here we're never sent to bed early and nobody makes us wait Round here we stay up very, very, very, very late. I can't see nothing, nothing round here (oh) Won't you catch me if I'm falling? Won't you catch me if I'm falling? Won't you catch me 'cause I'm falling down on you. See I'm under the gun round here Oh man I said I'm under the gun round here And I can't see nothing, nothing round here.

I found the live version of Noah Gunderson covering this song and it absolutely knocked my socks off. Check it out. I rarely listen to covers but wow. So I googled it and found it was a crows song. The original is great but this cover takes it further. I am a child of the 50s, raised on the 60s and 70s and stopped listening in the 80s and 90s. Thanks to so many tube channels going back there and bringing the best of those 20 yrs new life. I am older but now my ears are wiser and sensitive to the sound of music

First time I heard this album I was 14, it was 1997 and pretty messed up. Not like most 14 year olds- a little more. And I felt like this song "GOT ME". You know what I mean? I spent the rest of my adult life listening to this album once in a while ' to remind myself that someone out there...gets it.

This album was released 30 years ago today. While I wasn’t into it much then (I was only 7) many of the songs were inescapable in the 90s and early 2000s, some of which have stuck with me over the years. Now that I am older I have become reacquainted with CC music and can really appreciate the beauty that this album is. Congrats on making such a timeless album guys 🫶🏼

Thank you for your kind response. I hate to admit this but I am 68 years old but come from a musical family so I have been introduced to all forms of music. CC's lyrics and prose in this album are outstanding and deserve all praise. I love seeing people from another generation appreciating any music from my generation. Hopefully you will not think of me as an old has been.

DarkCloudEntertainment the way I feel is we are always connected to everyone and everything 24/7 back in the 90s everyone had landline phones. everyone now I'd glued to this artificial device and that where all social aspects are these days. we used to call up friends then go hang out with them, or we spent time outside alot, if we wanted to learn we had to research and dig. we came up with our own ideas of about the little things in life, we weren't told by status updates and clickbait articles. knowledge was real because it was gained in a more natural way. Now the information is overwhelming and most is fake, not even real. we have to take everything with a grain of salt. I miss going out, phone less and just enjoying the world like it was meant to be enjoyed. when I was home I was knee deep in hobbies that bettered myself and interested me. now we just stare at phones and take in worthless information about everything including friends and family. privacy is gone. our life's are on display for all too see. I yearn for those simple happy go lucky times. innocence was still existent back then. our world is tainted and artificial and we are all addicted to something that isn't even important or real. our life's are being wasted. that's my feelings.

I was a h.s. freshman when this song came out. Never once did I cry listening to it until I just read the comments. It just amazes me how certain songs can pull a heart string with people. We are complete a@@holes on the highway to each other but come here to cry over a song. Why are we so cold to each other in public? Sorry to everyone suffering, world has me beat down too so I offer no advice except we all will die soon so you better live it up now by all means necessary before it’s too late and do it with a smile.
