Anthony, I come from a ballroom background. In fact, I teach ballroom. I completely agree with you that practice is a process.

For sure. I (Anthony) also come from the same background. Certified through Gold in Rhythm and Smooth a loooong time ago lol. The discipline has helped me tremendously

Great video. Your advice here is the only way I learn. For me, breaking up a pattern into groups of 3 or 4 steps, and slowing things down, is the only way I can process it.

Thank you! We tell students that we dance to music, but not learn to it.

Excellent dancers and teachers! You can’t dance overnight keep at it and it will come. You must learn to to feel the music when you dance. More fun than s*x when you learn!

I love the analogy of links in a chain. Just like learning how to read, linking sound chunks. It’s the blending that is the difficult part. So your idea of holding for 2 beats between links is confidence boosting and like Rose said, it builds muscle memory or in reading lingo, fluency. For new videos, can you do some more Nightclub 2-step?

So happy you liked this one! It’s too common for students to just to want to learn new patterns (that’s the fun part)... but it truly is the “how” rather than the “what” that makes the good dancers into the great ones. We’d love to do more nightclub at some point. It’s one of our favorites to dance and we hope it becomes more mainstream over time.

I appreciate your teaching- it’s so good! Especially like the chain link analogy & all the tips. Thank you for making these videos. My husband & I are watching and just starting out with the 2 step. We are very much beginners but have enjoyed solo dancing at Stockyard in Holiday Fl. We have a great teacher, Maurice Roe.

What a great video, it does a terrific job making the structure of a pattern clear. My partner and I have been learning WCS for a couple of years now, but nobody goes into as much detail as you do. Watching you makes me realize how much effect the small things have. You asked what we would like to learn about: I would like to see more about why the turns sometimes don't work out. You touched on that subject at the end of this video. Is there more to that, would you please teach how we can get it perfect every time if that is at all possible? We have been watching the bit about the halo (and the little horns fitting in - cute remark) but now you have touched on the timing of the lead, secretly I have been thinking that that is the problem in our case, but who wants to blame the leader for everything all the time. Thank you so much for making all these detailed videos. I have been waiting for something like that for ages. I like your sense of humor too! If you ever come to eastern Ontario, maybe doing a workshop, please let us know. Our favorite spot to dance is The Corral in Oshawa Ontario and all the Community dance events in the various dance halls.

Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words! We’re so glad they’ve been helpful :-) Yes! We would love to create a video in troubleshooting turns. As Anthony’s students could tell you, he LOVES talking about turns. Maybe a little too much (it’s hard to get him to stop once he gets started ha!) Leading a turn is partly “what” and partly “how”... but one of the most overlooked things is “when”. Look for a video on this soon. Thank you for the suggestion.
