COUNTRYSIDE SCENE part 4 - SCENERY, DETAILS, OHLE & a SIGNAL
Lots done over the past two weeks to see the the area pretty much complete. I go through each component of the scene showing or explaining what was done to achieve the desired effect. Enjoy!

John, your attention to detail and modelling skills are up there with my favourite railway modellers, Tony Northeastern, Everard Junction and Chandwell. I am not a scale railway enthusiast myself, it it the creation of the layout and back story of the layouts that fascinate me, along with your creative ability to produce something believable in miniature. Keep up the excellent work, you are an inspiration.

John, the water will be the icing on the cake, It's fantastic how you have tied it all together with the back scenes, I'm sure as an artist some of your paintings would be quite something

Bless you Chris thank you. I always mean to do some paintings, but never seem to get round to it. I enjoy the modelling more so. I agree the resin will make a huge difference, and on Torr Vale Mill too. It still quite cold here so hanging on for warmer weather. The resin needs it to cure properly. Quite brilliant artwork on the back scenes coupled with clever use of physical scenery gives a fantastic depth of perspective! It really does look so believable and realistic!

Thank you Stephen, so glad you like it. Ill do the resin pour for the water in the summer hols when it is a bit warmer, as the resin, I have, needs this to cure properly.

Again, it's a great back scene. I think they join up very well. The join is very good and not really noticeable. The sky does vary from different directions. I love the river.

I liked the John Constable approach to the countryside back scene making it out of patchwork of things taken from several images. The end result is very effective. The whole scene looked really good as the trains ran through as you panned around. The video was a really good way of showing how to build the whole scene in various parts. The running shots at the end were great especially the 37 emerging under the bridge. Stephen

Ahhh thx, I certainly know its N gauge when I keep dropping parts only to find the carpet was hungry and never see the bits ever again, lol

Hi John! Another great episode detailing the countryside scene! Loved the backscene you painted! You made it look really simple - just slap a bit of paint on, make sure it's the right height and blends in well - but it looks fantastic, and must have taken a load of planning to achieve! Really looking forward to when you pour the river and the weir! Roll on the summer holidays I guess! Lol! All the best, Ian.

I prefer painting my own backscenes these days. I used to buy the printed ones, nightmare to apply, then they fade, crinkle and tear. No more! I can get exactly what I want by painting it. I did research some skies and hillsides, but no more planning than that really. I went to Art college to do 3d design and we had to produce a few paintings there when it was easier to show a concept. (No computers then). You are right: slap on the colours; remembering where shadows would be; use 2/3 or 4 variants of the same colour. Bob is then you best friend.

Lots of little details making a great scene, as expected from yourself! Like the idea of the weir as well. I must start thinking about putting in some lights on my layout, a project for next winter perhaps. Could I ask what brand the lights you are using? Regards Steve

Hi Steve, thank you for your kind words, much appreciated. I just get my LEDs from ebay or Amazon now. There was a guy on ebay who was brilliant and always gave away freebies with your order, but... he's long gone now. The signal LEDs were the real tiny ones 1mm x 0.5mm I think, wires like hairs, but great for these tiny applications. I used a 3v feed, generally ok. The red was bit fragile though, had to swap this one 3x, I know...
