COUPLINGS, COACHES & FUTURE PLANS, IN OO GAUGE & N
Whilst Im between projects on the N gauge build, Ive been catching up on couple of those OO gauge jobs. I do finally turn my attention to the future planned Hadfield and explain the ideas. Enjoy!

You need to do what you want to do. It's a large layout, and the bit we like as viewer's, is the build and seeing it progress. 😊

Thank you Martin, the N gauge is the priority, but the OO gauge will go through a major overhaul at some point. The run what you want is quite important to each of us as individuals. Many may enjoy replicating actual trains from a particular period and others literally anything goes. My OO is more of the latter. However, the N gauge is more so prototypical, with exceptions eg 142s HSTs amongst few others. We each choose what we want. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

John, you have done a great job on the coaches. They look used in period. Well painted. Folk get too hung up about exact replicas, but for a modeller and enthusiast, a pleasing representation hits the spot. I'm in your camp on this. As for schedules....... not interested. Just enjoy what you show. Regards, Stephen.

Thank you Stephen, yes you are soooooo right. Have to say though, when Piccadilly is complete I do want to create a timetable of sorts having trains arriving and departing. That might be a bit mad with 5 stations with one of them receiving / departing hundreds of trains every day. A flavour will do lol

Hi John I like those coaches you have made a great job of them as they look great . Also I am sure Hadfield will look good even though you don’t have much space . Cheers Kev

Hi John - certainly plenty going on ! Ingenious couplings for the double OO layout. The 66 actually looks pretty good with the old 16T mineral wagons. I'm sure Hadfield station will be another one of your masterpieces 😊. Cheers Euan

Lots going on there John. I like the plans for Hadfield and you are right about having to make changes to fit a real world scene into a layout. I think what you suggest will work well. Look forward to seeing progress as and when you feel up to doing it. I am sure the little darlings are all too aware the summer hols are coming and containing their excitement and getting them to focus must be quite a challenge. Stephen

I feel your pain with your oo gauge 66 and kinematic pockets, I had to replace my hornby class 60 ones with direct mounting onto the bogies for reliability, although im sticking with tension lock couplings, they may not be perfect but I'm not changing a lifetimes worth of stock to be fashionable!! Nice to see an update on your oo, but also looking forwards to how you adapt Hadfield to that corner of your layout it's quite an inspiring system.
@piccadillymodelrailways

Thank you Philip, The 66 was a pain at first as the swing on the kinematic coupling was very different to the stock with virtually every derailing with the 66s. Since mounting the coupling to the bogie it’s been perfect, but mods to the air dam have to be made.

Hi Kdees are indeed a very realistic style of coupling but for me quite expensive. I prefer to make my own and experiment with the size. We each choose the best way for ourselves, all is good.

Just an idea, that station up the corner, maybe tall tree and a mirror instead of a back scene, Just an idea I thought I'd throw at you. It might be worth a mock up or just a mock at the idea. Lol

Hi, thank you. I do like the idea of a mirror. However, when a train enters it could look a little odd seeing a train appear from the buffers end. I will be using trees though to tie into the surrounding area.

@@piccadillymodelrailways I was thinking more a side on train mirror, so you could have taller trees but still get a look at it all only through the mirror,but you would know if you had space to even try it or even like the idea.

Hi, Hadfield does not really have a town centre. It has a main street with a few shops running up to the railway station with some side streets going off it.

It's all systems go around Hadfield then John. Your interpretation is always good. I think scrubland in front of yhe station on the banking will be perfect. Nice to see the 00 out again. You did pose me a question though, I wonder how long it'll be before sayings such as 'back to the drawing board 'will disappear from our language as everything is now designed on computer systems. Enjoyed it again John atb Andy

Hi John, It is coming to the point I think that to be a "proper" modeller now a 3D printer is a must for all those bespoke bits that cannot be bought so well done for doing these couplings and carrying on with the teaks but now back for you to do the proper layout stuff. Cheers Robert.
@piccadillymodelrailways
@piccadillymodelrailways Ай бұрын
Thanks Robert, for me I need the 3d printers as most of my building is quite bespoke. However, the amount of money I must have saved is quite substantial. Most prints cost literally pence ( filament varys around £19-28 for 330m, thats is 4p - 6p per metre). If you want to go down the filament printer router say, and Ill help you. I would highly recommend Creatlity Ender 3 KE though. c£275 although on offer at Creality £229 for fathers day)

A proper modeller does not exist then, Tony North Eastern (along with countless model makers) does amazing work, none of it is 3d printed. 3d printers, cricut machines and wood engravers are amazing bits of kit no question, but they are not for everyone (as you suggested yourself) as is DCC, many prefer DC. All is perfectly acceptable and we each have to choose they way we work. 3d printing has opened up so many opportunies for me, but that's me.

@@piccadillymodelrailways I think I have dug a hole for myself with this origanal comment so with spade working at full speed I will try and clarify what I meant. As you say T.N.E and all do a super job with card etc as did you but the fact you rebuilt part of Piccadilly with your printer shows that the way it was always done is changing so with all these new machines that are available now (not just 3D printers) although there will always be a place for the conventional way of modelling if you want to do as you are along with others print bespoke parts (including whole engines and rolling stock) that stand the test of time this is the way its going and like most advances it is very hard to stop it taking over entirely yes it will take a lot of time but it will happen so I feel I am about halfway out of this hole but hope that what I have said clarifys it better. Cheers Robert.

Hi John! I'm loving your coupling design and implementation - I'd almost forgot you had a OO layout as well! Lol! I dream of a day when I have no Rapido couplings, and will be going magnetic eventually, but obviously have bigger fish to fry before that happens! I can't wait to see what you do at Hadfield as I have a similar amount of space for the far side of Shelfington station! I was thinking about creating the main station building as low relief against a back scene containing a town! Regarding what you run on your layout, it's up to you! I'm trying to keep to a time between 1970 - 1982 in the North East, but I'm already taking liberties with locos and stock simply because I like them! So as long as it pleases you, I say go for it! Cheers, Ian.

Hi Ian, thank you for your kind words. 3d printing N gauge couplings is possible but so much more hit and miss on a filament printer. Ill look at that more soas time goes on. I do feel by creating a real station thedesign is kind of done for you and the question 'what should I do here?' doesn't exist as everything is there in reality to model. Could you base Shelvington on a real station? The trains we run is very much the personal choice, as I do run obselete trains as if they still play their part. Take care catch you soon.

@@piccadillymodelrailways - Regarding stations, I agree, it's much better to base them on something in the real world! I was actually thinking of basing it on somewhere like Durham, although without the third through line! I'm working on a whole backstory that ties in with Ledge Town quarry supplying the stone to build Shelfington viaduct and other structures in the area, such as the station buildings! It's quite fun really! Apparently, geologists have verified that stone contained in Hadrian's Wall was originally from the Ledge Town quarry area! Lol!
