Hey Booktube, I thought it would be fun to do a reading vlog on a book I've seen getting some hype! Is "A Dark Window" by Rachel Gillig (amzn.to/3TUEdLd) worth its popularity? Watch for my review :)

Clawdia: Black and white with a beauty mark. She has thumbs... wouldn't surprise me if she stole them. She's pure chaos but she purrs and cuddles me so it's fine.
Chunky: Black with a white patch on his chest. Has thumbs. Needy, crusty, whiny baby... can't live without him.

@@BookswithEmilyFox Ours has realized that scratching at the bathroom door will get her attention. There is another door that she can use to enter the bedroom, one that isn't closed (because the latch doesn't work properly). But no, she scratches and throws herself against the closed door and meows until we get up and let her in. Since she hates being picked up, I like to go around, corner her in the bathroom and pick her up and carry her back around and toss her on the bed. I'm hopeful that the trauma of being picked up after she scratches will make her stop doing it. Instead of simply doing what she wants, which is open the door. Negative attention instead of positive attention, if that makes sense. (TLDR: Our house is kind of a loop, so we have two doors that lead from the bedroom to the rest of the house. The cat takes advantage of that to mess with us.)

I thought book one was ok, the whole cards idea felt a bit like magical playing cards which wasn't really my thing but still enjoyed myself. Book two was actually really good, a lot more gritty and the cards made more sense to me somehow. So would definitely recommend the second one. I also believe it's a duology and everything is wrapped up in the second book, so no trilogy commitment or middle book syndrome! Anyway, love your channel and videos! ❤

If there was a clear line between YA and Adult (or New Adult) then I'd say One Dark Window is just barely over that line. I found it YA in a sense that there was always something happening. Like one thing happened and right after it something else happened and there wasn't any room to breath or calm things down. And I think that it very popular in YA books. Of course the romance makes it go over to the Adult side. But I did like the ending and since it is a duology, I decided to read the second book. And I think the second book was actually more Adult than YA. I was waiting it to be more darker because of the ending of the 1st book. But sadly it wasn't and it felt like Elspeth/Nightmare became more like a side character. Of course the ending of the second book was very YA ending, one of those where you go "yeah of course this was the backstory". I gave the books 3.5/5, I really liked the idea, maybe I was hoping a more darker story. Especially since the thing was called Nightmare.

The cutting of the hand always seems weird to me. Have you ever had a cut on your palm? Like, it takes forever to heal because you use your hands all the time, bandaids don’t stay on your hand, and you wash your hands all the time, meaning it can’t develop a good scab and it stings like a mo fo. If you have to cut something, do your forearm or leg or something. I dunno…not your hand!

I gave both 5 stars and ugly cried on both books.
